One Piece Skypiea Thingy

While I'm well aware thats a rather lame title (lol) for those who dont know its the One Piece "Abridged series" I work on with PiratesDontHaveKings…there have been plenty of attempts at One Piece abridged series' in the past, such as Dub Piece and Grand Dub, as well as two One Piece actual "Abridged Series". While its true There are sooooo many of these out there on youtube and whatnot, about a year ago my best friend and i started a little tribute to FUNimation's taking over One Piece at the start of our favorite arc: Skypiea.

So we did a funnydub of our own. It was crappy. Now we're revamping the first three episodes of the "One Piece Skypiea Thingy" and moving forward in the actual plot, in a way similar to FUNimation's moving on with Skypiea and dubbing the East Bluse saga at the same time.

We hope (like SO MANY PEOPLE DO) that our funnydubs will be noticed by such hilarity artists like Team Four Star or LittleKuriboh. I firmly believe that we are capable of reaching that level.

So if you're at all interested, check us out on youtube. The purpose of this thread is to get reaction (except telling us not to do this: we've BEEN doing it for a while and have gooten positive feedback from Sonny Strait of all people).

I agree with Mikey, I don't think Dub Piece is all it's cracked up to be. Also, it irks me that whenever someone makes a funny One Piece fan dub of their own, everyone proclaims that there's only room for one funny One Piece fan dub, as if the existence of others threatens the existence of the sacred "Dub Piece." Then the topic subsequently turns into a Dub Piece wankfest.

its quite impressive that you could do something like Dub Piece before even Yu Gi Oh Abridged. Really, that takes skill.

However there can be a number of factors into people not liking your particular dub…may not be just because they have "no sense of humor"

Wow. I was going to make a crack at how Dub Piece sucked earlier, especially after DW's prissy "DP is not an Abridged Series" comment, but I know so many people liked it, I didn't want to resort to cheap trolling. Glad I'm not the only one who sees Dub Piece as a bunch of unfunny crap. I've never understood how something so mundane can be so popular. It's like hearing about those "child prodigies" who smear feces on a canvas and are praised as artists.

It may be original compared to the flood of Abridged Series ripoffs, but a guy or guys lazily adlibbing over a series with a cheap microphone is not as original as you like to tout it as being. Saw your World's Finest dub too, and that's just the same crap.

Okay, you posted a definition of word that describes shortening something. I don't see how that word has anything to do with parodying, joking, or having fun. I never recall using the term "special" as much as you. I started the series in early 2006, before every single dub was just referred to lazily as an abridged series. It doesn't make sense how I've suddenly recreated what had yet to be created. Besides, hate the fad. Don't want any part of it.

Doesn't matter how you look at it. Dub Piece meets all the basic requirements as any abridged series. Saying otherwise is just being delusional. Not to mention, makes you seem a bit of a hypocrite. (no offense)

i know one piece has a TON of abridged parodies out there, but isnt that a GOOD thing? Doesnt that mean One Piece dubs can get the FULL SPECTRUM of funny rather than having one group get the praise for it?

to be perfectly honest we had already decided to use Chopper's blackness theme before Dub Piece was ever watched by me or my partner. kinda interesting though…....and i accept your "tip". and btw: we scripted the past two or three, so that should make em better.

Scripting doesn't always mean "better". Some of the best moments come out in improv when you have friends to work off of.

yeah, buu, you're absolutely correct. sorry for not sayin that.
actually, PiratesDontHaveKings and I are a good team in that I have a certain sense of humor ad I write the script, and he has a different sense of humor and does great improv stuff. Even he agrees that scripting does make for a more organized and refined dub though. thats why we do that.

Actually, his/her explanation is more like saying that a Hershey Bar and a Crunch Bar are both candy bars, not that Dub Piece is insert whatever abridged series here because they have similar elements.

Of course, no one in this topic has really given a definition of what makes an abridged series an abridged series, which is why this debate is going nowhere.

But if Dub Piece falls under that general category of an abridged series, then yes you would be founder, regardless of what you claim your series to be.

Well as I recall Dub Piece wasn't really abridging. Didn't it use entire episodes at least in the first season? I honestly have forgotten by now.

Abridging has become probably the most common form of satire used on cartoons today but that doesn't mean it's the only kind. So I'd say the best way to determine is something is an abridged series or not is if it uses all the footage from an episode for the satire. If it uses all the footage than even if the creator says it's an abridged series I wouldn't consider it to be one. And abridged series with "parts" unless they are "abridged movies" are pushing things towards long-form parody rather than abridged parody.
