I think that what the strawhats need is an animal trainer… With a personality like Ussop.
-
Why an animal trainer? When they've got someone who can actually understand and talk with all sorts of different species? Seems sort of unnesessary to me.
-
Oh yeah…I didnt think that hard...I guess what they need is another guy. But waitaminute....Luffy doesnt need any type of person to be part of his crew...He did invite Vivi, and that Box DUde right?
-
He invited them as friends, not for their roles. So if he met an animal trainer he liked (which is kinda weird, what with Chopper being an animal and all), he'd probably invite him.

A gypsy or a psychic would be nice to see. Not using magic powers though to ruin the theme.
He/she should have the Future Future Fruit or the Time Time Fruit or even the Telling Fruit or something.
-
lol tru tru. ok i'm just wanna add someone to mine (bottom of page 5). how about a tailor. i'd like to see a guy like the homie from kung fu hustle, a tailor who can really whoop ass. that would make 11 crewmembers counting my other suggestions but 11 is good i think :).
-
How bout a comedian? Though I think Luffy and Ussop would fill in for that.

i think theres enough comedy on the ship, every crewmember give me a good laugh from time to time, a comedian could ruin that imo.@Jun 11 2005, 05:05 AM

Hey I like the idea of the gypsy. Maybe the musician could be a gypsy. That way he/she would have more then just one role. Though I´d still say that for the mystic moment a priest would still better fit the team.

_What sense would a comedian make on a pirate ship. I mean pirates laugh very often but asking specifically for a comedian is as if you would say how about a news speaker.
-
A bum would be cool. Not just like a regular bum, but someone like FFVII's Cait Sith personality-wise. Role? Doesn't really matter.
Wait, Nami already got that….
.......I miss Tonjit.
-
While a bum would certainly be something that isn´t uncommon among pirates I´m not sure on what his dream might be which he aims to achieve with being a Strawhat.
-
I think they need a priest, a rabbi, and a cactus which punctured a Human Human Fruit on its spikes.
Why? Cos they can then walk into a bar together. :D
(There's a series of bad jokes with the setup "A priest, a rabbi, and a … walk into a bar." Usually, there isn't even a punchline, just that setup alone)
Seriously, what about an engineer, who comes up with bizarre modifications to the Going Merry?
-
Personally, I don't think Luffy should get a musician. Just because he really wants one - if he got it, that's one running gag down the drain. Also, it'd be a great side story after the Straw Hats get One Piece.
Zoro: So Luffy, looks like your mission's done. How's it feel?
Luffy: But my mission isn't done! We still don't have a musician! And we need 10 more cooks, and a juggler, and…Maybe not a great side story, but I just think it would be funny.
On the note of should the Straw Hats get any new crew, I don't think so. Not that I have anything against them, but it even took a while for Ussop and Sanji and especially Chopper to fit in. Unless we expect One Piece to last another ten years, it'd be kind of odd to throw in new characters midway.

Well seeing it from the point that the manga is running since 1997 and that we´re somewhere about the half way of the series it would appear that that´s exactly how´s it going to be.
Other then that Luffy said that he thinks that ten nakama will do. And seeing how Oda works there´s probably much more meaning in this statement then it would appear at first sight. ;)

Sorta off topic but didn't want to make a new thread since this sorta deals with this thread.
Were Vivi, Carue, Johnny and Yosaku considered crewmates of the Luffy Pirates?
If so, has there been any other temporary crewmates?

Since Luffy wants 10 crewmembers, we still have 3 members left. They need a musician and a shipwright. But, we don't know which roll they need.

Just some notes on Paulie that IMO makes him being the future strawhatt…
-
Luffy promised Paulie that he will defeat CP9, so he is basiclly fighting against them for Robin and Paulie.
-
IMO Paulie is the one who has become most mental hurted in this arc.
-
Paulie has very high fightning spirit just like Zoro and Luffy.
-
Paulie has a fightning style who fits the strawhatts and Oda seems to go more detailed on Paulie fightning style than on Frankys.
I just want to have debate, thats why posted this points... ^^

-
This is the thing that worries me about Pauley. I just made this out of fun, not trying to flame or start a fight or anything, but this is just a joke:

So what? He fought Crocodile for Vivi, Enel for Cricket and Foxy for Tonjit. I don´t see anyone of them among the Strawhats now.
- IMO Paulie is the one who has become most mental hurted in this arc.
I´m not saying that his pain hurts less then Franky´s but Franky´s pain hurts since eight years while Paulie suffers just two days. You do realize the difference in pain and suffering that here, do you?
- Paulie has very high fightning spirit just like Zoro and Luffy.
And Franky doesn´t? I´ve yet to see that Paulie stands on the track to stop the Puffing Tom with his sole body. Other then that, the same argument counts as the one above Franky is suffering and fighting since eight years. He wouldn´t have remained at Water 7 and become the underworld boss if he doesn´t aim for something.
- Paulie has a fightning style who fits the strawhatts and Oda seems to go more detailed on Paulie fightning style than on Frankys.
What you call detailed is what I call repetative, while Franky´s is more diverse. He spits fire, shots his fists, can take of his skin on them and can take direct bullet hits. Besides he can store soda in his belly-fridge. ;)
Other then that I really see no point on where Paulie´s fighting style fits the Strawhats more then Franky´s.
I just want to have debate, thats why posted this points… ^^
Well you did get it. ;) So go ahead it make a reply. I´m going to get some sleep now. It´s now 6.30 am. I just got back home after a long night and I just want to go to bed now. :D

I´m not saying that his pain hurts less then Franky´s but Franky´s pain hurts since eight years while Paulie suffers just two days. You do realize the difference in pain and suffering that here, do you?
Yes, Franky has got hurted too, but, how would you feel if your nearest friends was spies that spied on you, and then they almost killed your father or someone else stands really close too you, while you can't fight back becasue your traitor friends is just too strong for you and you just hate them so much becasue you thought they were your friends.. Now, Paulie only got Ice, he doesnt have anymore real friends anymore, that also a reason why he should the strawhatts.
- And Franky doesn´t? I´ve yet to see that Paulie stands on the track to stop the Puffing Tom with his sole body. I never said that Franky doesnt have one, but Paulie was first beated up badly when he fought against Lucci and Kaku, and then later he tried to attack Lucci even though he knew that don't have chance.. And know, he's still chasing them, you know why? Becasue he will fight til all single bones in his body is crushed.
What you call detailed is what I call repetative, while Franky´s is more diverse. He spits fire, shots his fists, can take of his skin on them and can take direct bullet hits. Besides he can store soda in his belly-fridge. ;)
This http://groups.msn.com/onepiecemangav-2/one…to&PhotoID=1687 and this one http://groups.msn.com/onepiecemangav-2/one…to&PhotoID=2122 is little similar while others like http://groups.msn.com/onepiecemangav-2/one…to&PhotoID=1659 http://groups.msn.com/onepiecemangav-2/one…to&PhotoID=1660 is quite different that the first 2 and then he has http://groups.msn.com/onepiecemangav-2/one…to&PhotoID=2759 but we dont know the ending is on this attacks. And I think Paulie can do more than just tie, swing and smash em, I think he can tie up and a little iron ball wich he has in his white pocket bag and with that Iron ball, he can swing it against his opponet, kinda like a lasso.
And what I meaned with it being more detailed is becasue Paulie says wich knot he is doing when he attacks, so then Oda has probably checked up some sailing knots and used them in Paulie's attacks, and I don't think he would do that to a normal filler character.
And as I've said before….
Strong right = Gomu gomu pistol
Strong Left = three in a row gunpowder stars
Flame attack = Heat dial
Only Coup de vent isnt similar to one of the strawhatts attacks.
He has a body that is very defensive just like Luffy.Well you did get it. ;) So go ahead it make a reply. I´m going to get some sleep now. It´s now 6.30 am. I just got back home after a long night and I just want to go to bed now. :D

That's what has bothered me about having Franky or Paulie join, their fighting styles aren't all that original. As mentioned Franky's moves have already been done but I'm still finding myself entertained with his train battle. I guess it's his attitude in battle that makes it fun. And about Paulie's ropes, anything he can do with them, Luffy can probably do with his arms. Like his Screw on Ritchie and Pinwheel on Moomu. I guess as long as Paulie uses more than 2 ropes he can keep things fresh.
-
Franky's style I'm just fascinated with, because you never know what the hell he can have in his body next. Like two chapters ago, when he pulled the skin off his fist for the Strong Hammer… wow!
-
You miss my point. I´m aware of what he did for Usopp, Nami and Chopper. I´m just saying that this fighting for someone argument proves nothing when it gets to joining the SH. Other then that, Luffy didn´t make friends with Franky himself so far, so it could be quite possible that before the arc is over Luffy fights for Franky too.
And you missed my point. :P You should not compare Paulie with Cricket, Vivi or Tonjit since Paulie acctually fits with the strawhatts, while Cricket and Tonjit doesnt and Vivi was lacking on her fightning style and on her personality to be a SH, but IMO the only thing that Paulie is lacking on is his past and his dream/goal, but it should be revealed soon, even filler characters have som kind of flashback and dream.
Again you missed my point. I do not doubt a little bit that Paulie is hurt badly. But just as I said, same could be said to Franky. He suffers pain for eight years now, EIGHT YEARS!!! The World Government came and took away his most precious person in life. I´m not saying that Paulie doesn´t suffer but Franky suffers at least as much as him.
But we're not talking about the past now, most of Frankys suffering is probably gone now since he has crew and he's happy with them and he would not leave them and they would not leave him, they have same friendship and loyalty that the strawhats have.
So? Lulu and Tilestone are also following and they both got beaten up pretty badly too. The Square Sisters got also beaten up and they are also following. I don´t see any of them joining.
… Did I say that everone who follows Luffy will be his crewmember? ^^
I already said that I´m aware of his "different" attacks. But I just don´t see a trained fighting style as more unique then the one of a cyborg. I mean Franky is probably the only cyborg in entire One Piece. It doesn´t get any more unique then that and that´s why nobody can copy his fighting style. Paulie´s on the other hand can be copied by others simply because it just requires a specific weapon and training.
That Franky is a cyborg is uniqe but his fightning style isnt uniqe and you know why…. And yes, you can copy Paulie fightning style and so? You can copy Zoros and Sanjis too.
Heat dial is nobody´s attack so far. Other then that if you say that to Franky´s fighting style then you can transfer it immediately to Paulie too. If you look at it all his rope attacks more or less just grab some character to toss him around. Now that is something that Luffy could do too with his DF powers. So we are as wise as before.
You know what else he can do? He can fight like Sanji and Zoro too. And Luffy can't do exactly the same thing that Paulie does becasue Paulies ropes have more agility than Luffy arms and Paulie have more than just two ropes, while Luffy only has 2 arms. And Luffy cant tie or grab something without his hands, while Paulie can tie objects anywhere on his ropes. And, I promise, Paulie have some attacks that just doesnt throw his enemy…
But Luffy most usual attack is Gom Gomu Pistol and it works exactly the same way like Frankys most usual attack, Strong right. But Luffy doesnt have an attack that is similar to Paulies attacks.
And Usopp or Nami probably have a heat dial.Capn Carter
-
And what points to that Vivi is much weaker then Nami for an example?
And, how in HELL can Frankys suffering be gone? Like, his entire body got smashed, I think he will be reminded like everytime he looks on himself.
But I kinda agree with your sayings about the attacks. But anyway I like Frankys style of fighting too, it feel kind of… weird. Just like himself.
I still belive, and I have a big probem of changing my mind, that both Franky and Paulie will join though. Franky is already hunted by The Marine, and after this fight in Eneas Loby we will propably see him get a bounty on his head. Paulie have surely got a dream that can't be realised in W7, so he too have to leave. The thing that I think point out the most is that after W7 Grand Line gets so much more dangeorus, and The Strawhat will need all help they can find. Even if it is quality over quantity.

**1. What do you mean? I never said that Vivi was weak.
2. No, Franky is not the whining guy, and he's quite proud of being a cyborg
I don't think both will join, if Franky join, then Paulie would probably just sit back at Water 7 and live a normal life, if Paulie joins, then I can se him go to a adventure with his crew.
-
AHH, I did see it wrong. :P You said "fighting STYLE". Sorry. :P
But then again, I didn't say he suffer becasue he is a cyborg did I? I meant that he will propably associate his loss with the happenings with Tom.

But just that is not enough to prove a point.

Erm, did you just jump on the OP wagon somewhere during the Water 7 arc or did you actually read the whole thing? How can somebody´s suffering can be gone? You watched the Arlong arc? If so then you should be familiar that Nami is suffering 8 years since she lost Bellemere. Are you thinking that her suffering is gone to just because some time has passed? And how about Chopper who was also suffering until Hiluluk´s Sakura bloomed and the one (Wapol)who laughed at his death got defeated.
I just don´t see why Franky shouldn´t be suffering anymore. I just don´t see why.… Did I say that everone who follows Luffy will be his crewmember? ^^
Ok, your responses really start to get me wondering now. Do you actually try to understand what I´m saying or do you immediately reply without thinking? Of course you didn´t say that. That wasn´t my point. My point was that Lulu and Tilestone are in the exact same position, I reapeat IN THE EXACT SAME POSITION as Paulie. I´m just trying to prove that so far nothing special hasn´t happened to Paulie that can´t be transfered to other characters. The only thing that seperates him from the others is that he is your favorite character.
That Franky is a cyborg is uniqe but his fightning style isnt uniqe and you know why…. And yes, you can copy Paulie fightning style and so? You can copy Zoros and Sanjis too.

But Luffy most usual attack is Gom Gomu Pistol and it works exactly the same way like Frankys most usual attack, Strong right. But Luffy doesnt have an attack that is similar to Paulies attacks.

This is yet a further proof that you are completely biased in this discussion.
Well that´s actually it. I hope you didn´t take some of my statements to offensive. Sometimes I´m a bit harsh on my argumentation but I don´t mean anything of it as a personal attack. :D
However a little tip I can give you for further discussions is that you should truly consider making objective statements because many things of what you say about Paulie just prove one point and that´s that you think that he will join because he´s your favorite character. Just imagine the situation if Lulu would be my favorite character and I would use one he´s-my-favorite-character argument after the other. Wouldn´t you think that I´m lacking a little bit objectivity then? B) -

No, they're are not in the exactly same position. Lulu and Tilestone was defeated without knowing who their opponet was, while Paulie was with the Luffy, creating and a bond with him and then he saw who CP) was, his nearest friends.

Yes of course they are identical, they works exactly the same, it is a fist that has a long reach.

But if you look objectively to it. They actually all have the same charactistics you used to make Paulie unique. That was my point-
I never said that his whole suffering is gone. And since Nami and Chopper their suffering has decreased, so why not the same with Franky when he is with the Frankies?
Believe me when you grow up with a pain for years, then it determines the person that you are. Everything that you believe in, long and dream for is that way because you learned to live with the pain. Throughout the years you´ll always aks yourself what could have become of me if it wasn´t for that one thing that happened back then that changed my entire life.
That is completely different and definitely a higher state of suffering then just suffering for two days. No, they're are not in the exactly same position. Lulu and Tilestone was defeated without knowing who their opponet was, while Paulie was with the Luffy, creating and a bond with him and then he saw who CP) was, his nearest friends.
It is just a difference in how they found out, but it is the same disappointment.
You didnt proved it wrong.
If you admit that being a cyborg is unique then actually you admit that a cyborg fighting style is unique too. And you admitted that Paulie´s style (as much as Zoro´s and Sanji´s) can be copied so it is proven wrong already. :P
Besides, when we´re at the uniqueness discussion. Just because Luffy and Franky hit their enemies with their fist it still doesn´t make it the same fighting style. I already explained the difference between iron and rubber fist.
However the fighting style itself is completely different. Take a look at Boxer´s and then at Kickboxer´s. They both hit their opponents with the fists. But it is definitely a different style of fighting. If you still say that the style is the same then you sure must hate fighting games because following by that logic all the characters have the same fighting style. B)Yes of course they are identical, they works exactly the same, it is a fist that has a long reach.
Well I just elaborated the fighting style thingie. :D
I don't think he will join only becasue he is my favourite character.. ^^ My fav before was Wiper, but I knew he wouldnt join becasue he just doesnt fit in.
Well ok but you have to admit that he hasn´t done anything so far that seperates him from the rest. If it is just his fighting style then I can list many other character´s in OP that also have a their own fighting style but where nowhere near at joining. That´s the beauty of One Piece. There´s so many diverse secondary characters you can fall in love with. Just because we do get one more of these it doesn´t mean that he will join with the main cast.
And Franky also have his crew, no need for him to join another especially not when they there so much friendship and loyalty between them and they're even helping him with his dream.
Usopp had his "pirates", Sanji had Zef and the chefs, Nami had a whole village, Chopper had Kureha. Everybody had somebody to leave behind. And even if we stay on this argument of leaving somebody behind then riddle me this…
Whenever it gets to the point of Franky joining the Strawhats then someone says that he can´t do that because he would leave the FF behind, but in the same instant it would mean that if Paulie joins he would abandon Iceburg, Galley-la and Water 7. I mean there´s three large factors that need to be considered here
1. The Dock 1 workers are the people´s hero´s and two of them are already gone for sure.
2. Water 7 has been destroyed and it needs to be rebuilt.
3. Iceburg probably suffers the worst pain right now and he means so much to Paulie. If you compare Paulie to Franky then you see that he has much more reasons why he just can´t leave. He would leave Iceburg, Galley-la and Water 7 when they need him the most.
Besides Franky already went to buy what the Franky Family has been trying to get for three years. It would actually be a good farewell present and a reason to disband the group. I mean if they´ve achieved their goal, there´s no need to continue. And yet people insist on Franky can´t leave his family while it is perfectly ok for Paulie to technically to the exact same thing that Lucci and Kaku did though he other then them had good intentions. I don´t get the logic of this kind of argumentation.
-
I don't think that either Franky or Paulie will join. Franky won't be able to leave his gang, and Paulie will resume to his work as carpenter in Water 7. After all, Iceburg will need all the help he can get after some of his best men betrayed him. The Straw Hats might get someone in Eneas Lobby.

**I just reply to this one becasue there isnt so much to discuss on the other things and it only get more complicated…^_^
From what we've seen, Paulie have only showed Iceburg his loyalty. I don't think he care about the rest, he just work with them, nothing else. And the city doesnt need Paulie only Iceburg.
Yes, its a good way too leave he's crew by gigving them the thing he bought, but... Does Franky really want to leave them? And why should he leave them? I mean if wants to go somewhere then they would follow him...
And if Paulie get bounty, then he probably can't stay at W7 as one of the chiefs in Galley-La, but it doesnt matter so much if Franky get a bounty becasue the people see him a badguy anyway.

man, oda is screwed. if franky joins and not paulie, there will be some very upset people. if paulie joins, and not franky….once again, some very upset people. i think they should both join. you know the old saying "two shipwrights are better than one" :D. plus i think the new strawhats' ship will be pretty big so one person can't manage it alone. i say these two together would be a great addition to the crew. what do you guys say? are you with me!?

Somehow I really don't think that Oda would put BOTH of them in. One, just because what the fans want doesn't necessarily equate what he's already got in mind and two, using two crewmembers for the same purpose would be overkill. Luffy eats like a hurricane, do you think they need two cooks ? :P
-
Yeah, who does Oda think he is? Making two cool characters and pulling his fans for nose like that. :D Just kidding. It seems that these debates are pointless. It's not like we get to decide who joins the crew. Oda's word will be the last. Let the man do what he does best.
-
i see. well whatever oda does, good luck to him. this'll be a hard choice. hey, maybe they will find someone else at eneas lobby like green hair said, who knows?
-
Of course it's only Oda's choice, but:

I strongly doubt Oda would introduce a city full of great characters and just let them pick up some bum that was doomed anyway, seperated from their true crew.

_It'd suck for someone to join because they're on the run. If they join, it should be because they really want to.

Whoever said that it'll be one of the prisoners?

earlier i was gonna say that maybe paulie could join cuz he's in debt and has to get away from water 7 :D. but buccaneer has a good point.

**well the place they are going to is a maximum security prison and other than the prisoners i would assume that there are only marines and goverment people there,
and how likely is it that a marine would join a pirate crew ?
and that leaves the prisoners and as buc pointed out it would suck if a random bum/prisoner would join rather than our beloved paulie :P -

From what we've seen, Paulie have only showed Iceburg his loyalty. I don't think he care about the rest, he just work with them, nothing else. And the city doesnt need Paulie only Iceburg. But you do realize what Galley-la and Water 7 mean to Iceburg. Whatever happened to both of them makes Iceburg suffer pretty badly and since Paulie cares that much for Iceburg it would be completely bad style to leave all the problems to his boss.
I just don´t see Paulie as the kind of guy to say:"Iceburg-san, it pains me to see you suffer that way. Not only that large parts of Water 7 have been destroyed in the last couple of days and that the Galley-la company is suffering because of damage and the leaving of two main workers. No, but Lucci, Kaku and Calipha who meant so much to you turned the back on you and tried to kill you. I know that it makes you suffer very much and I know that you need all the help that you can get. But please don´t count on my help. I´m leaving with the Strawhats. Why don´t you ask Franky? You seem to get along pretty well."Yes, its a good way too leave he's crew by gigving them the thing he bought, but… Does Franky really want to leave them? And why should he leave them? I mean if wants to go somewhere then they would follow him...
I´m not going to answer the question with a statement since it appears that you don´t listen to anything of my arguments. So I just turn it around and ask you would Paulie really leave Iceburg and Galley-la? And if so why should he leave them? If he goes somewhere then at least Lulu and Tilestone would follow him…
And if Paulie get bounty, then he probably can't stay at W7 as one of the chiefs in Galley-La, but it doesnt matter so much if Franky get a bounty becasue the people see him a badguy anyway.
Oh now you´re really stretching it. First being a bad guy and being wanted by the World Government are a completely different pair of shoes. Plus what do you think why Franky got away with all of the stuff at Water 7? Isn´t it clear that Iceburg didn´t deal with him because of their past? If not then why didn´t Iceburg call either the WG or the marines to request to list Franky as a wanted criminal. It is obvious that Iceburg doesnt want to see Franky in their hands that´s why he let him run wild on W7. But if he would be wanted by the WG then they would come to get him. This is a completely different motif here. And it´s a reason to leave the city.

Paulie doesnt need to leave immdetly after this arc is over, they can do like they did in Alabasta, just take it easy in Water 7 til its time to move, I mean they're not in hurry and then they go when most the of the town is repaired.

We have never seen some kind of bond between Paulie and Lulu or Tilestone, they just work together, but Paulie seemed to be friend with Lucci and Kaku but they betrayed him so he needs some new friends. And he would leave if he has some sort of dream and if Iceburg is think its okey to let him go.

Who would come to get him? I mean if he is less 100 million then the WG and the marines would probably not chase him, and since Franky is the strongest man in W7 (except for CP9), I think he do just fine.

Don´t try always to avoid the main argument by mentioning something rather unintersting. The fact is that three of Iceburgs most important workers left. And even if everything would be repaired, if Paulie would leave it would be the same thing as Franky leaving his FF.
Execuse me but what bond between Franky and his FF have seen so far that is much deeper then the bond between Paulie and Lulu/Tilestone. You mean they´ve all worked together for three years to buy something expensive. So what? The Galley-la workers work together to provide the best ships in the world.
Who would come to get him? I mean if he is less 100 million then the WG and the marines would probably not chase him, and since Franky is the strongest man in W7 (except for CP9), I think he do just fine.
Ok now you´ve really did it! Who would come to get him you ask? How can you even ask such a stupid question. If somebody gets a bounty then it means that the WG wants his head. What other need is there for a wanted poster?
And whats with the less then 100 million crap? Are you trying to say that a guy with less then a 100 million on his head wont be chased by the WG? Why the hell do they WANT somebody in the first place then? And before you consider to bring up the argument that so far no below a 100 million bounty pirate wasn´t catched then I´ll respond immediately and say that they aren´t catched because they are pirates that can´t be located at a certain city. The only difference was Arlong and he was paying the marine to let him be.
Besides, why would the Marine have chased Kuro if he wasn´t even near the 100 million bounty?
