Alright, I've been pissed off at my modem for awhile now. But after shelling out 150 bucks for a new router at the insistence of tech support that my router was the cause of sudden issues, and fixing things for maybe a week(a band-aid fix at best) I've pretty much had it. I'm stuck between 2 internet companies, and neither one is working out too well, unless one can have problems solved. Here's the deal: I've got Time Warner Cable. I believe I'm currently running at 10 mbps but it was 6 until the tech guy came out. Replaced modem, told us our router was messed up(been working for about a year at least) and basically refused to do anything until we replaced the router. This piece of crap modem, and all it's replacements, goes down hundreds of times in a single hour. I'm sure you've heard of 5 minutes downtimes a couple times an hour. This is a couple times a minute at worst, once every 5-10 minutes at best. And worst of all, it eventually develops to a point where it just stops resetting itself and you need to manually reset it every time. Naturally, Tech Support and the Guys Hired to Check Cables are NO help with this, and are clueless. So I did the supposedly smart thing. I looked for an alternative. Oh hey, AT&T has a DSL service that doesn't look too bad, even if it's less speed for the same amount of money. At least I can use it. But, alas, they aren't in the area. So I have one other option for anyone within miles of my house: Verizon. So I set it up today, and after hours trying to get it reactivated after the first activation disappeared and locked me out of the internet for a few hours, it's running slow as hell. I expected SLOWER, but I feel like I'm just a notch up from dial-up here. I know I've asked for a lot of help here, but I'm at my wit's end and nobody has any clue what to do. Google searches remain unhelpful to me, describing similar but easier and resolved stories. So I've got a month free of Verizon, and Time Warner which goes down constantly(and yes, it's the modem, it still goes down when plugged directly into it) and Verizon which is not working out. It takes about 10 seconds to load a web page. Not normal for me. Please, anyone out there, I either need a way to fix my Time Warner or get this crappy Verizon DSL to run at comparable speeds(legal means or otherwise, at this point)
