Is sculpey II colored? I don't think I've ever seen it in my craft stores. But I know what you mean about breaking. Kaku's neck has an enormous crack in it. O_O
I think it comes in numerous colors, I got some in transparent. Fimo has a lot more colors though. I usually use white or grey because I resin cast.
There's another clay, I'll have to look it up, I haven't used it since 06', but you can get smooth by just wetting your hands or sculpting tools.

Just asking, but are you ever planning on moving on towards different materials? Like different types of clays, plastics, cement, etc?
Never have really. Sort of a don't-fix-what-ain't-broke attitude, I guess.
But I certainly wouldn't be against it. I know "real" artists (as opposed to amateurs like me) are proficient in many mediums.

I've definitely thought about it! The way I'm envisioning it would be like this: from one angle you see the exterior (going all the way to the bottom, so there's somehow a layer of something representing the water's surface way at the top), but if you turn it around to the other side, it's like a cross-section cut-away, where you can see every level of the interior.
It would definitely be a larger and more ambitious project than the first few, and it would probably require a bit of research to get all the details of the inside right.

Here's another progress shot. Wrapped everything in foil + space filler clay this time, because he would cost upwards of $60-70 if I used the normal clay for all his mass.

Funny you mention that… after I bought all the materials I planned to use for Magellan, it occurred to me that the ID staff would work well in the same way as the CP9 display. Magellan at the the top, then Hannyabal and Sadie on the next highest tier, then the four demon beasts, and finally Saldeath with two Blugori.
But unfortunately I thought of it too late...
And nice job spotting the poison on the ground! There won't be any poison on the man himself though. The hydra or hell demon would be waaaayyy too big, and I didn't want to make up my own stupid attack/pose, so I'm just sticking with his intro box pose.
Okay. So I worked all weekend and finished it!
Magellan is pretty simple, compared to some of the other stuff I've done. If the color scheme looks weird, just know that I took it straight from the volume 54 cover…

That's absolutely amazing. And it was done so quickly too! I assumed these things would take like months to finish, but you pretty much got it done in a weekend! It's only a shame that your Magellan couldn't grace the pages of Usopp's Gallery.
This has to be one of my favorites. Maybe it's because Magellen already is pretty cartoony, so he's easy to sculpt.
This was spread out over two weeks, mostly because I had a 104 degree fever at one point, and then multiple migraines.
At long last, it's Buggy! In his Impel Down gear, he's got his hair in a ponytail, his right hand detached (dunno why), and the Blugori axe on his back. The torso is also detached from the legs, but you can't tell in the picture… I'm particularly proud of the correct-ish human proportions that I managed to pull off here. Buggy is basically the only "normal" human figure I've done.

The axe looks amazing and the little wood at the top of it almost looks real. His nose is so big, too. It's perfect! Great job.

Yup. Of course I wouldn't point out my flaws right from the start, but you're absolutely right. I first shaped the head, but when I was done working the face, the head's shape had deformed to what you see, and there was no way to fix it without scrapping the face. It's easy to say "Why not just do the whole thing over?" but it's a lot harder when you've just spent over an hour on just the face. Oh well…
Anywho!- I was going nuts when I saw this past week's spoilers, because I at least now have a basis for finishing my Admiral display. Unfortunately though, I can't do Akainu until I have an official color scheme and DF ability.
So in the meantime, you'll have to settle for this. Might be a bit trickier to guess (wait a second. No it's not. Just look at the damn weapon.), but the pose is taken straight from the manga, so if you happen to see it, you'd recognize it immediately. I'll probably do this one next weekend.

Although!!!! I just thought of something!!!!!
By chance I decided to make Buggy's head removable from the body!!! Something about maybe wanting to do multiple heads, for all his crazy expressions (the one with teeth/eyes popping out, typical white-eyed angry face, etc.)...
But anyway!- that means doing another head is a task that does not involve doing the whole thing over!!
It might not happen for a while, but it might very well happen.
God, I love your sculpts CCC, I just have one qualm- and that's that I wish you took a little more care/time in refining your edges. I see fingerprints and lumpiness, and edges of collars are only partially flattened.
I think if you could take care of that, your sculpts would be even more amazing than they are now!
But i think that comes with the short attention span thing

I only use my hands, really. Being an amateur I don't quite know how to use tools. I've tried using gloves to solve the fingerprint problem, but that just created more problems. But I've definitely taken more initiative as the years have gone on as far as smoothing things out more. I'll almost always try smooth away large, noticeable prints and lumps on broad, flat surfaces.
Right on schedule, as promised. And I tried to work on the problem you mentioned, dechanique.
Really pleased with this one. The dynamic pose (from chapter 543, page 8-9) is much more exciting than either of my last two (Magellan and Buggy), and Hannyabal's vibrant colors come through well in 3D. Although you can't really see it (which doesn't matter, because it's not really well done), he's wielding his dual-bladed naginata, Kessui. The base is supposed to be the floor of Level 4 of Impel Down, hence the reddish color, and it's covered in burn marks from the fiery nature of the atmosphere. Hannyabal is about 10 inches tall.
Supplementary shots are of the top view and of Hannyabuggy.

Glove only ever make things worse, lol! Trust me! XDD
I would suggest at one point playing around with some nice wooden tools. I used them during sculpting in both ceramics and with oil based clay with success! Edges like the rippled edge of a butter knife makes great texture when scraped lightly and the back of a spoon helps to smooth things out.
According to a sculpey forum I looked on, you can use a bit of alcohol (rubbing, i would assume, lol) or turpenoid applied with a small brush to smooth away the fingerprint marks!
I say give it a shot on some scrap scupley you don't care about- if you could get the smoothness and the edges/refining your sculpting skills I think you could totally be top notch!
There is just so much potential in your work!
