Has anyone else noticed that Paulie looks a ton like Smoker… They have the same facial structure, eyes and they both smoke...
Do think this is just a coincidence?

Well they both wear a similar jacket and like cigars, but I think thats the main similarity. They could be related, but I don't think so.

That's why I didn't really like Paulie's design. He reminds me too much of Smoker. While Kaku is often mistaken (by the other characters) as Usopp, his design is very unique and I can separate him from Usopp easily.

When I first saw him, I thought it'd be cool if he was a relative of Smoker's. But most likely, he's not. And now when I see him, it doesn't feel like he looks all that much like him, either.

I don't think he looks like Smoker at all, except for the eyes.. But hey, you can only make so many characters before you start recycling bits of existing characters.

i never really thought about it that much. i just always thought that it's kinda weird to have another cigar smoker. but now that you mention it, yea i see more of a resemblance. it would be pretty tight if they were related and (if paulie joins the crew) they meet each other out at see or something. i wouldn't care if they weren't related though. but who knows, we'll find out sooner or later.

Other than the jacket a little, and the cigar, I don't see the resemblence at all. They have different hair, different build, their faces are shaped differently, not sure what you're looking for in an original looking character.

My comparision wasn't the best, but I think it shows a difference in their facial structures.

The only resemblance I see is in the square jaw and wide, open mouth with cigars. That's about it.

Yeah, it's the cigars and jacket but I think it's also the overal figure which gave the impression of younger Smoker. It's not a big deal though, Oda has so many characters that it's inevitable. Although I do wish he wouldn't had given the cigars to Pauly…

in the beginning i also thought that they were the same and that it was boring. but now i've got no problem with it.
as we don't know the past of paulie, we can't be sure that they are not related at all, and i also think they're thinking quite the same way.
well, if pauley joins, it would be interesting if they are really related and they meet each other.

that's why smoker became a marine, to kill Paulie -
But Paulie isn't a pirate, so Smoker can't legally kill him. Plus, if there are no outstanding charges against Paulie from the World Gov't. or any of its member-nations, Smoker can't even arrest him.
If I recall correctly, Paulie is Franky's junior by a few years. Since Smoker and Franky are about the same age, Paulie would have to be a younger sibling or cousin for much of a familial relationship to occur.
