My parents didn't really bother about it either way.
But since I've clogged up GB after GB of my stepdads external hard drive (ep. 1 - 339) he's taken a slightly more negative approach.
Your parents opinions on OP~

My dad used to really like anime/ cartoons, but forbid me to watch DBZ and Ultimate Muscle because he found it pointless, proving his point by sitting there and successfully predicting the whole Freezer vs. Goku and Robin vs. Kid Muscle fights.
Which pretty much was a big turnoff.
His favorites were Pokemon and YuGiOh!, he'd constantly challenge me at the card game.
…
Dad only watched some of the Arlong Park arc, but said he really wanted to see how it all turns out but...well, he didn't live to watch anymore OP.My Mom despises most anime, she calls them cartoons and switches the channel over.
Then she talks to her friend and stresses the word "cartoon" being all like "My daughter always watches cartoons"
Being a girly girl, my mom actually liked Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne, Sailor Moon and Sakura from Naruto.
The scene that really got her into Naruto was when Sakura cuts her hair and starts fighting.
(Which was totally unnecessary, seeing how Sakura could've done a replacement jutsu or something.)When I was younger, me and my friends used to pretend we're anime characters and replay cool scenes.
Back then, I was almost always Piccollo and the worst part nobody liked was Kirurin, who'd always get portrayed as this perverted, drooling, retarded dude who'd constantly get kicked so hard, he had to replace his testicles with a rubber glove. Chyeah, I admit even doing something like that recently, Justice League meets Mugiwara <3
But, they never bother watching the anime or reading the manga that often, so they ask me to recall what happened to the detail. -
My parents would rather I get a Job than care.

When I first got into anime and manga, my mom said all of the usual things: "Why do you like this weird Japanese art?" "You're reading a comic book?" "IT'S BACKWARDS! How do you read this?!" etc. Neither she nor my dad has ever really read or watched it. I think they would like the storyline, but they would most definitely object to the amount of cussing and violence. I can just see my mom watching the Skypeia arc: "Did that guy just call himself God?!" Then I'd have to spend forever explaining it to her.
My sister needs everything explained to her, too. She wanted to know why Coby's hair was pink. Even though she's really more into romance than I am; I'm pretty sure I can hook my sister onto OP. (Ha, She did miss one of her favorite movies in favor of watching a few episodes.
"Hey, come watch this with me."
"Wha-?"
"Yeah."
"I don't want to miss Flashdance."
"You won't; the movie comes on in 30 minutes, so it'll be fine."
30 minutes later
silence
"So, what did you -"
steely look "Just turn it to the next episode already."
Edit: the above post … ouch. :p

My parents know of the show, and can pick out the characters I have cosplayed and know there names. It's the same with Naruto. But now that I don't live at home im sure they have forgotten it all by now….
-
My mother knows I'm into it, all of my friends know I'm into it and one is actually a fan herself. My little brother likes OP almost as much as I do.
Even though my mother let's me buy the translated volumes, she doesn't understand why I won't sell the old ones and why I want to purchase the missing parts. She also never gets the name right. :D
In addition, I bet every time my roommate has a friend of hers over, they're all "what the fudges", since the first thing they see when coming in is the huge OP poster on my door.
-
My mom thinks the characters have big mouths are ugly. Then again my mom also thinks Jay and Silent Bob are gay due to me watching Clerks Animated Series, and she heard them say gay alot; "Why are you watching a gay show?"
-
Until some 6 or 7 years ago my parents used to take a look into what i was watching on TV. One day I was watching DBZ with a friend of mine when my Mom came in. Well seems like my friend was dicussing anime with his parants frequently. He told my Ma who Goku would fuse with Vegeta and their Powerlevel would be like 20 trillion and they would beat the crap out of Boo (Episodes were repeated, thats why he knew)
Well my Mom was like: Ohhhhkay… I'll be going then. I never tried to tell her more about anime, let alone manga...
My Dad even hates normal TV exept of news. No way he could ever like some "useless stuff" like One Piece. -.-
My Sister probalby knows it but not from me but from her own children that are 12 and 8 :P I can't even remember when she moved out.
Some of my friends do like anime but they rather watch Hellsing and Black Lagoon than One Piece. They don't think its ridiculous but until now i couldn't get one of them to watch One Piece.
Slight hopes for them -
My family doesn't really know much about One Piece. I do have a bunch of uncles and aunts in the Philipines. I mention One Piece, I asked if they reconize Gomu Gomu No and they do reconize it.
-
My little brother likes Chopper, but he's more of a Naruto guy.
My mother, on the other hand, has watched the fansubs up to episodes 143 (before the Skypeia arc)-and she LOVES it! I think she's the only person over 50 I know who actually likes One Piece. However, while her memory isn't bad, I've had to remind a few times what a Shichibukai is, among other things. Thankfully, with the show in english, she can rewatch episodes without worrying about subtitles and get reacquainted. It'll be forever before she reaches where we are, true, but it'll still help her memory though. She can't read the manga, sadly, as she doesn't have the energy with any manga. I tried this with Fullmetal Alchemist (another series she likes) and she gets tired very easily. At least she doesn't know what she's missing.
My dad, however, has this much knowledge of One Piece: after watching me play UA and seeing an episode where the birds are talking to Chopper (he didn't know that he could talk to animals), he's convinced that Chopper is Rudolph on crack. This probably because he's a Death Note/Hellsing/Zelda kind of guy, I suppose. -
My parents would rather I get a Job than care.
this is the best reply so far (imo)

Sure they do, one piece is as big as naruto over there and now i think almost everybody converted to one piece.
Philippines being near Japan and all that, they get most of the fresh anime and they get to dub/sub it early too.
How do i know all these? I used to live in the philippines (i've seen filipino one piece up to sky piea arc, like 3 years ago or something). The dubbing was great but the theme about nakama is somehow lost -
Me and my two younger brothers all love One Piece. My mum likes OP, despite the language difference.
But she's becoming pretty open minded about other
culture's dramas and animations, since I love watching
asian dramas and I'm constantly watching them. All my friends at school however,
with the exception of maybe 1 or 2 of them,
all dislike One Piece. Mostly because of the
animation style or the "weak" storyline, leaving me saying
"What the hell!?!". I don't think they've even given OP a try.:getlost:
-
A lot of my friends like it.
My brother's also a big fan
My grandma likes the show too. I think it's rather amusing that my 91 year old grandma enjoys it. I think it's because she loves to read and it has subtitles XDMy parents don't like the show, for them it's too loud. However they love the artwork of Oda, they even got me a wood carving one of the colorspreads :D
My grandpa pretty much despises it. He was in WWII and doesn't like the Japanese :P
I learned REALLY fast not to talk to him about anime XD -
My mom named her computer Luffystoys on our home network. o.o;
She likes what she's seen of one piece by what I told her as I read through it, and watching the game for Wii. Going to burn the 6th movie to a dvd so she can watch it. ^_^
…Grandma thinks I should have outgrown anime by now sigh

My family is indifferent towards One Piece.
My Dad doesn't care for any anime or anything but he'll let us watch it as long as we aren't loud.
My mom thinks it's wierd and thinks Usopp is Pinocchio. (She also got me worried when asked me if Luffy could stretch his privates)
My Younger brother has ADD so he has no way of paying attention and he said he wouldn't watch OP again and will stick to being a fan of ninjas.
My sister is the worst of all OP haters as she constantly tells me ninjas will be better than pirates. I just laugh because I don't care what any of them think and niether should anyone else. -
My mom recognizes the characters but she hasn't seen an episode. I believe that she thinks I'm a little weird to collect stuff but she doesn't mind as it doesn't get in the way of school work. I'm convinced my dad could care less and thinks its for little kids. I can never tell if my brother enjoys it a bit (he saw a couple episodes during cp9) or if he's just laughing at me.
However, I did introduce my naruto-loving friend to One Piece and she's on Sky piea currently. Still trying to convert the rest of my friends from their total naruto-ness
and how do you guys get your parents to watch anime? I've tried and the're convinced its like all other cartoons.
-
Im the only one in my house that likes it
My parents hate it. actually dont care about it
-
Fun thread. My mom is a bit interested in it. I forced her to watch two episodes of the G8 arc with me, and she thought it was amusing. Her favorite character ended up to be Robin. Hell, I even gave her Bleach vol 11, and On Piece volume 4, and she read half way through both before gettin annoyed. She's a pretty openminded person when she's not on menopause
Dad doesn't really care, because it's a cartoon in his eyes. Anything animated is for kids to him.
My little sister is nothing but a spongebob, highschool musical, zack and cody fanatic, and trying to make her watch One Piece is extremely hard since it's too grown up for her.
And all my friends laugh at the funny parts, but they all don't really care about anime.
-
My mom thinks anything animated is just a "cartoon"
Heh, same here. Doubt my mom knows of it's existence, but then again I never watch it when she's in the room. It'd be way too wierd . Though once or twice shes asked me stuff like '…are'nt you going to do anything apart from sit 'dere and watch cartoon/read comic?' I'll probably show her one day just to see what happens.
-
My mom thinks its kinda violent for a show. She likes Luffy though. But my mom is kinda weird because she likes the 4kids dub better. My step dad likes the fights and favorite character is Sanji.Other then that My mom and Dad don't really care.
-
my family is pretty indifferent towards it, my sister showed an interest at first then stopped caring, i can't get anybody to watch it here, i only have one friend who likes it, everybody else thinks its too long to watch, and my cousin absolutely hates it, then again the region he lives in (denim springs, LA) is for some reason racist against asians, don't ask me why they are, but when i told my cousin and his friends i watched anime and had an asian girlfriend, they all scowled at me and it got really awkward.
-
My mom loves that I watch it. Anime in general really. She see's that anime is inspiring and has life lessons in it. She likes to watch One Piece with me if I ever watch it.
My Biggest sister doesn't watch it. Just knows I like it
My second oldest sister is on the Don Kreig arc
My lil sister is at enies lobby
And my dad just knows about it
And my mom can't really bge placed because she'll come in and watch anime with me in the mourning. Anything from Vampire knight, to One Piece, or even Hellsing can be playing. She doesn't like Hellsing xDEveryone knows I have an obsession with One piece. They commend it or make fun of it. Either way it's okay heheh
-
my parents aren't even aware of its existence, or that I watch it, and while my sister is aware of it, she's never seen it.
-
Parents have never heard of it, never seen it, hell they don't care or like, or even care about anime in general. My little brother is a fan and at least watches the anime, but for some reason he keeps neglecting to read the manga while he reads/watches the anime/manga versions for Naruto and Bleach respectively…...

-My middle brother likes the show, not as much as me, and has seen all the subbed episodes, but doenst read the manga.
-my youngest brother knows about it and knows how much i like it but isnt really into anime at all, although he has watched a dubbed funimation episode or two….i think it might have been zoro v. mihawk fight
-My Dad loves the show, he saw an episode on tv by funimation and after that the DVR was set to record every episode, then when that stopped i showed him the subbed versions and he has seen up till 331, he likes the way they say "chopper"....or as he says is "chopa"....pretty sure that is his favorite character, although he says he can relate to zoro the most. he says he likes the show for all the little things in between the fights, and when i think about it, thats probably a big reason i like it too =)...oh and when luffy gives nami his hat and goes off to fight Arlong in the Arlong Park Arc he said that was "really neat" with a huge grin on his face...favorite arc was water 7/enies lobby.
-My mom has watched a few episodes while she is just sitting at the computer doing whatever, she says she likes the music, because most anime/games just repeat the same crap over and over
-My Aunt thinks its too "adult" for my cousin...who is 10...but lets him watch naruto
-my grandparents are indifferent -
As long as I keep my grades up, my parent's couldn't care less what I do in my spare time.
-
My dad doesn't really care, but my mom got into the series a little bit when my obsession struck. My one of my friends got me into it in the first place, but some other friends of mine hate anime. That's about it.
