No Rayleigh for new crew member posts yet?
Chapter 500 "Ember of History" Discussion

@Fire Fist:
I'm interested in this too. Since Roger was said to be impulsive and… well, dumb, like Luffy, I think it's entirely possible that Raleigh, not Roger, figured out how to read the Poneglyphs.
Back in Buggy's flashback, Raleigh seemed pretty level-headed. A peace-keeper, if you will, like Nami. Only without the raging almighty uterus.
Where does it say that Roger was impulsive and dumb? I don't remember reading that.
19.
@Rayleigh fro crew shit
Rayleigh can't survive the Grand Line.
Rayleigh is so weak, even Usopp is stronger than him.Didn't you read the chapter? He knocked that slave trader unconscious with just his spirit. I don't understand where you get that he's weak from that.

Didn't you read chapter 19? Rayleigh is a bully. bully = weak
-
Oh wow.
The spoilers didn't mention anything of Silvers. Interesting twist there, Oda.
-
It would be nice if Rayleigh, being Roger's right hand, had the same sense of direction than Zoro :-) It would explain why he disappeared for so long, and maybe why he was made prisonner: probably some dumb trap. Also, he seems to drink a lot, so maybe he was caught when drunk and then played the game because he can leave when he wants.

Whut
You obviously don't keep up with them.
-

It doesn't. Krokus, Kureha and Gan Fall all commented that Luffy reminded them of GDR though. And since FFA thinks Luffy is "impulsive and dumb" Gol D Roger must have been as well. It goes by reason.

He did. But BarttholomewKuma occationally Trolls. Or atleast does very weak attempts at sarcasm, that isn't really funny because overall BK seems stupid enough that he could be serious.

here is the "idiot like roger" comment

Anyone said that Zoro will be the first at the auctioning house?Hello, remember the "grove *1" buble incident? Now imagine he'll meet up with Charloss there, who thinks he's dead.

No, I think Luffy is a genius… when it comes to combat. I also think he's not as dumb as he lets on; rather, he just shows a lack of interest in most things. But Kokoro calls Roger stupid and Zeff called him Impulsive. I certainly think he may have been smarter than Luffy, but a lot of people have said they share similar personality traits. So, it's not impossible to think that Sir Raleigh was the brains of the Oro Jackson.
-
here is the "idiot like roger" comment
http://www.onemanga.com/One_Piece/400/03/In the German version she says something like humdinger or devil of a fellow. I think this fits better into the context.
The similarities mentioned by the others may be rather his strong will and determination than something like being an idiot.
-
From Stephen script
Cocoro: That Roger fella…
Was stupid like this one is...
That's why you gave 'im your help...
And here we are again,
alla Tom's Workers helping out a pirate boy...!!
Ngagagaga.
{You'da done the same,} -
The chapter was quite underwhelming to me, because I was totally getting ready for a massive blowout chapter with special colour spreads and all sorts.

Why? There's no significance in Chapter 500 besides it just being the first of a new set of hundred chapters…

thats yo fault for assuming
-
He's talking about the flashback scene of Arlong in the last chapter, where he was dreamingly looking at Sabaody park. And because he couldn't visit it he built his own theme park: Arlong Park.
Lol, ive just realised i missed the last chapter :S
How the hell did i manage that?!?!? -
I'll admit that I was kind of hoping for a cool color spread for this one but I can deal with Califa. Anyone know if OP got the Jump cover at least?
I am just so f'ing glad I didn't look at any spoilers for this one. That last page made the whole arc. Silvers and Gold, that's great. This is what, the third time now we've seen the use of spirit (if you count Luffy knocking out Duval's bull), I wonder if any of the other Supernovas have already mastered it…
Brook and Chopper's scene was hilarious, especially how they ended up relaxing.
Kidd's speech to the nobles was excellent. He really hit it on the head there. It certainly looks like everything is going to come to a head at the slave auction. I wonder if Zoro will beat everyone there to see Camie up on the auction block. Could throw a wrench into any plan Sanji might be making...
All in all, a very satisfying 500th. Cheers Oda! Here's to 500 more!

i don´t understand why a lot of people are so hyped if the strawhats and rayleigh will meet.
i mean he is a big fish, but since after rogers death 22 years passed by, is there any possibilty that somebody will recognize him?
like: hey i know your face you were gol d rogers first mate silvers rayleigh, right?! i don´t think that this will happen.
maybe robin, probably. but i don´t think so.

Robin will know, which would explain why she was left out of the party that met with Shakky in the first place. Also, there is a lot of potential for the Strawhats to meet a person who has seen One Piece and been to Raftel. Raleigh could definitively lay out the end game for the entire series and describe why the New World is so hard to navigate that only one ship has ever made it through the converging Log Post routes to Raftel.
Also, now this is the first time since his childhood that Luffy has met someone capable of using "Ambition" to great effect. This is Luffy's newest upgrade and the development of this ability will allow him to stand one on one with the strongest members of the OP world. If Raleigh can teach him how to refine this skill, it will be enormously valuable as the Straw hats begin fighting larger and larger crews. Isn't that enough reason for this to be one of the momentous encounters the strawhats have faced thus far?

I guess if you were expecting something earth shattering you'd be disappointed. But iirc Chapter 400 was nothing out of the ordinary and the worm still turned. Honestly, I like the fact that it was a blow out chapter and an issue of Jump dedicated to blowing smoke up Oda's ass.
But yeah, I'm really digging the design of that feral slave that that one noble has. Overall, decent chapter.

the fact that their don´t recognize him by name bothers me a little bit.
it´s like somebody in the op-world will talk about a pirate with the name roger, what is your first thought - probably 99% gol d roger. the fact that this did not happened with the name raleigh, bothers me. like i said before he is a absolute famous ex-pirate.if i should talk shit, i´m in a shitty mood toady, so sry.

One thing I PRAY for with all my heart, soul and vertebrae-NO TRAINING CHAPTERS.
-
One thing I PRAY for with all my heart, soul and vertebrae-NO TRAINING CHAPTERS.
ur gonna be dissapointed then.
-
@ Lobolover : lol why not ? that´d be veeeery funny
(and yes,I actually know why you don´t want it - almost every manga has training chaps - I only say one thing DB xDDD ) -
The giant will join the Straw hats, inspired by how they will risk their lives to take back Camie.
Anyway, Robin and the Giant could become pals, and also be the unstoppable force at the moment of dealing with cannon fodder.
Think about it. The NW would be easier for them (specially with all those crews filled with cannon fodder) if they got a Giant.
They already have Usopp's accuracy with cannons and Nami's possibly "Tsunami-Tempo" to take down ships in any sea battle, but if they ever come across an entire fleet on ground, then even Robin's 100 arms wouldn't be enough to take down all the cannon fodder as the others deal with the main fighting force of said crews. Besides, it would be just badass to see a Giant throwing Ships/houses around.
-
@ Lobolover : lol why not ? that´d be veeeery funny
(and yes,I actually know why you don´t want it - almost every manga has training chaps - I only say one thing DB xDDD )I really doubt we'll have a training chapter. After all, we haven't had one in 500 chapters, so why would we start now?
However, I would like an explanation of how "Ambition" really works in the context of a fight, similar to how "cutting nothing," gears, and rumble ball effects were described.
-
I assume the effect of Ambition are just like goosebumps you get by getting in the way of someone who already decided to throw everything away for their goals. Of course, just like human strength, the resolution is greatly exaggerated to fit in the theme of a Shonen Series.
-
I really doubt we'll have a training chapter. After all, we haven't had one in 500 chapters, so why would we start now?
Pretty much. I mean, One Piece tends to drag on at times as it is. Interject a few chapters of nothing but training and it would make the story drag worse then the weak weak trio running around Thriller Bark.
-
Besides they learn everything they need to survive through the experiences they have every Arc. Learning more from the people/cultures they meet in his voyage kinda suits more the series than straight forward training chapters.
Yeah, we have Zoro, but that's just something that's part of his character; it's just like how Sanji loves to do anything Nami asks him to.
-
Excllent chapter! Does Oda's art seem different this chapter or is it just me?
I suspect bitching about how anti-climatic for 500 this chapter was, but I wont be reading it to find out.
-
Buuhan, I completely agree with you.
Oda's art almost seems a little less refined than it used to in the better chapeters of Thriller Bark. Its almost been a little disappointing recently. -

Geez…
-
Actually… I was referring that it looked better to me. Don't group me with him...
-
Exactly, it looks more mature in its own way. Just look at the Panel where Nami is shouting.
edit: my colorful version of silvers (avatar size) -> feel free to use it#
-
One thing that occured to me is that Silvers will recognize the straw hat that Luffy is wearing, and make the connection with shanks.
-
I'm seriously hoping for Sir Raleigh to watch Luffy in action, and then say something like, "You know, this kid reminds me of 'him'…" Followed by a Flashback. Maybe when they're teaming up against whatever the heck is gonna be thrown against them in this arc.
And the Axe guy is probably Kizaru. Shilhouette's close enough. It's not like the proportions have to match exactly. My guess is that he's carrying the Bounty Posters as a way of scouting out which pirates have been sold into the Slave Trade.
And thanks for the Avatar Niar.
-
Some people (ok a lot of people) have been wondering how Ray-Jay could have gotten caught if he is so strong.
At first I assumed that he passed out drunk somewhere and was sold by the girl he shared bed with or something sneaky like that. But after reading some theory that GDR's first mate is just like Zoro and got caught because he was lost (how can you get lost in saboady with all the numbered grooves?) I started wondering.
Could Ray-Jay have allowed himself to get captured like Zoro did in the Morgan arc to protect/save someone else? The only drawback with this theory is that Zoro had a promise of enduring a certain lenght of time would set him free. I can't imagine the slavers making such a promise though.

Just going to throw something in here, it's quite chaotic.
…
Since Rayleigh's in the coat trade, he's probably the man Luffy gets his red pirate coat from that we see so frequently in promotional material.

youre an idiot

Care to explain? :wassat:
well if it wasn't a joke
you are either retarded or foreign
-
Some people were making a comparison to Kidd and Moria based off their appreance.
The reason why they look similar but arnt really is the basis for their design.
Moria is designed off Goth/Horror Movies
Kidd is based off Punk/BikerThere are alot of basic similarities between the two since they share similar origins but thats about it.
As for why Kidd and Law are at the auction, Kidd obviously just wants a slave while Law i am guessing wants a "Test Subject" for his cruel form of medical research.

I think many people misinterpreted the silhouttes of the supreme admirals. The 'things sticking outside of his head' is not his hair. It is part of his coat. The same goes for Akainu, it's not a weapon on his back.
-
Oh dear I really hope you weren't serious Malintex.
I seem to recall you said something about not really following the manga lately. If that is the case I guess I can be slightly forgiving. But you really should atleast read a few chapters back to get an idea what the current events are about.
The "coating buissness" that Silvers is in is the resin (you know the bubble stuff all over saoboady) coating of ships that intend to pass the red line via Fishman island.
It has nothing to do at all with coats, as in clothing, that you wear.
-
Nonetheless, it'd be funny/cool if Luffy got such a coat along with a resin one for the Sunny.
-

I'm sorry if I don't know what's supposed to be funny.

Ah, that clears things up.

I had an idea, what if Shakky was lying that she knew where Raleigh was? I can imagine him choosing to accept capture to avoid having Shakky hurt, either by extortion or overwhelming odds. Or perhaps a noble walked into the bar and harassed him and/or Shakky. She could either be embarrassed or unable to speak about it (fear of retribution). Or it could even be some kind of test. Shakky obviously knows who Luffy is, so it's entirely possible that the whole scenario could be a test setup by Shakky and Raleigh to test the "would-be" Pirate King.
