It's so obvious.

And Yassop
Don't forget Yassop
(Gold D. Roger was a Rubber Man as well)
franky's parents, brook's nephew and actually everyone in luffy's village too
(Gold D. Roger was a Rubber Man as well)
Now that's just silly.
Why?
I bet you that Oda will tell us that, as we'll be like "Omg, what a twist!!" (seriously)
Gold Roger being a Rubber Man has actually been my theory for a while.
Why?
Because that's a dumb power.
What exactly classifies a power as being "dumb" again?
And this is precisely the reason Oda will do it. Because you guys aren't expecting it.
I just want to know what happened to this guy:
http://www.onemanga.com/One_Piece/19/08/
Since we have all four Yonkou (Red-Haired Shanks, Shirohige Newgate, Lola's Mother (presumably), and Kaidou, there's no telling what this guy is up to. The final Shichibukai, maybe?
And I'm 90% certain Roger fought with a spear. The fact that Whitebeard uses a Kwan-do, his name means "Famous Spear" in German, and Zeff's whole speech about the "Unbreaking Spear" (even though he was speaking metaphorically) has me convinced.

Maybe that guy is actually Kaidou himself!
What are you guys even talking about now?
Maybe that guy is actually Kaidou himself!
No, Kaidou's either a guy with a mustache or a guy with crazy hair. If Lola's mom is part of the Yonkou, she's gotta be the one with the crazy hair, which would make mustache-guy Kaidou.
But I still have a feeling this guy's important, considering he was Buggy and Shanks' superior on Roger's ship and all.

Well, according to a recent SBS, that guy is
! Roger's First Mate
! D: Oda-sensei, here's a very serious question. If Shanks was a deck hand on Gold Roger's ship,
does that mean the guy who hit him and Buggy when they were fighting in Volume 3 was
the captain of the ship? Or maybe an officer? from Sonoe-san
O: Ah yes, the story of Buggy and Shanks in their swabby days. That would mean the captain of
their ship was none other than the Pirate King, Gold Roger. The man who scolded the two
boys was the first mate. I've had that set in stone since the very start, so I even made
sure the anime staff knew that.
Gyahahaha! I knew I wasn't insane! That guy WAS Roger's First Mate. So now we have a confirmed crew member! Eat it, anyone who said that guy was just a nameless background character!
@Fire Fist:
Gyahahaha! I knew I wasn't insane! That guy WAS Roger's First Mate.
Why "WAS" Roger's first mate ? Now that you mentioned that Oda talked about him I would say there's a chance that we'll see him ( maybe we already did ).
I'm certain that guy, the first mate, was Zoro's master.
It's already said in the SBS that this guy was Roger's firstmate:
http://www.onemanga.com/One_Piece/19/08/, so no, Zoro's master is not the 1st mate!
@Mad:
Bellemere, Zoro's master, Dr. Hiriluk/Kureha, Zeff, and Nico Olivia were part of Roger's crew.
It's so obvious.
With your eyes closed, maybe. I can't believe I'm going to take the time to debunk this fanwanking, but I'm bored. So, in order…
Bellemere: She was a Marine. Marines turning pirate is something seen both in history and in One Piece, but never the reverse, a pirate turning Marine.
Zoro's master: He isn't very fond of pirates, and he seems much more like someone who's dedicated his life to the sword then someone who spent his time as a pirate.
Zeff: Zeff was captain of his OWN crew, why would he have been with Roger? He's got his own style, which is very different from Roger's, so I can't see him being mentored under Roger.
Hiluluk: We know where he was, he was a bandit, and then he spent the rest of his life trying to turn snow pink. That doesn't leave time for piracy.
Kureha: Please. She was about 117 when he died. I know her age doesn't seem to phase her much (read: at all), but it still seems pretty reasonable to say that she'd settled down on Drum Island by then. And she seemed more like an old acquaintance of Roger then an old crew-mate at the end of the Drum Island arc.
Olvia: She was an archaeologist, not an ex-pirate. She'd probably have had a bounty before being captured by Saul. And why would she need to set sail on a journey to find Poneglyphs if she'd already seen the Rio Poneglyph, which she would have if she were with Roger? Wait, an even bigger disproof: When she left Ohara, it was about 4 years before Roger died. When the Ohara incident happened, it was about 2 years after Roger died. So how can she have been with Roger? Either way, this is nonsensical. At the moment, I can think of about 1 "parental figure" in One Piece who was in Roger's crew. And it's Shanks.
I thought it was official that Olvia had left Roger's crew…
Anyway, I like to think that Roger's crew just had a buttload of random badasses we've never set eyes on. Maybe it's just the hype, but I feel like learning about all his gang would ruin the legendary nature of him. At least in terms of their skills and power
I knew FFA was going to get a boner when he found out about that.
Bellemere: She was a Marine. Marines turning pirate is something seen both in history and in One Piece, but never the reverse, a pirate turning Marine.
Coby was a pirate(technically he was forced to be one) and is now a Marine officer.
In history Redbeard was a Turkish pirate and was later appointed fleet Admiral of the Ottoman Navy.
So a marine turning into a pirate and vice versa is possible both in One Piece and in history.
@Fire Fist:
The fact that Whitebeard uses a Kwan-do, his name means "Famous Spear" in German, and Zeff's whole speech about the "Unbreaking Spear" (even though he was speaking metaphorically) has me convinced.
As much as I appreciate that theory, especially the part with Zeff's speech, I am german and I don't read "Famous Spear" anywhere in the name. His name is Whitebeard because he has … a white beard. Or did I miss an elementary hidden fact about his name?
Whitebeard doesn't even have a beard, but yeah. Beard and mustache have the same name i japanese, right?
And I think it's really dumb to think that like every person who has a connection to the strawhats would have been in Rogers crew. Man, come on. The chances of all or some of them meeting and learning to know him? Yeah, sure. But them all in his crew? Hahahaha, that one I believe when it's a fact.
Whitebeard doesn't even have a beard, but yeah. Beard and mustache have the same name i japanese, right?
Then what's the white thing under his nose? I think it's a very strong beard, just as the ones these disturbing guys here have.
He didn't say Whitebeared's name has that. he said he USES Kwan-do, so I guess he meants WB's sword.

Ah, so he meant Kwan-do means "Famous Spear"? Because if so, sorry, then I misunderstood the sentence wrong.
Although "Famous Spear" is NOT german. :D

It's not a beard, it's a mustache.
The theories about Gold Roger's crew or the stuff about Whitebeard?
The first one.
This sentence makes me able to post in this thread.
Jesus… and how about Crocus, Wapol and many other characters that we've seen in the manga? they were all maybe in Roger's crew, just becouse they were mentioned and they are older than 30 years? this should deffinately be in Stupid Theories Thread...
maybe on of the sachibookis are a old member of rogers pirate crew? :D
When did I say this was a theory?
It's not. It's REAL science.
As much as I appreciate that theory, especially the part with Zeff's speech, I am german and I don't read "Famous Spear" anywhere in the name. His name is Whitebeard because he has … a white beard. Or did I miss an elementary hidden fact about his name?
No, I should've phrased that differently. ROGER means "Famous Spear" in English, actually, not German. That was my mistake. I was using a context to state that Roger presumably used a spear to fight because Whitebeard in turn used a type of spear. It would make sense for Rivals to use the same weapon.
And for the record, Whitebeard is Shirohige. Facial hair in Japan is hige, regardless if it's a beard, mustache, stubble, woman-beard, whatever. Hige. So he should actually be called Whitestache.
I thought it was official that Olvia had left Roger's crew…

Gold D Roger knows how to read Poneglyph he wrote a message on skyisland (reread SkyIsland Arc)
Why the hell did he need Olivia's help??? he could read them by himself…
All that we know is :
yeah, they knew Roger just like the rest of the world
- Smoker knew GR
Smoker was 6 when Roger died. He was just there at the execution, is all.
@Mad:
It's REAL science.
Like Super Toast!!

- Buggy was part of Gol D Roger's Crew
- Shanks " " "
- We've seen the 1st mate of GR
- Tom (Franky's master) Made the Jolly Roger, but wasn't part of the crew
- Dr Kureha knew GR
- Crocus knew GR (IMO he was on GR crew, and he his hiding the one piece in the lighthouse... )
- Smoker knew GR
Tom didn't make Roger's jolly roger.
Also part of Roger's crew was….DAVY JONES!
Take that FFA :D
Marines turning pirate is something seen both in history and in One Piece, but never the reverse, a pirate turning Marine.
uhhh….didn't we have a whole cover story about a pirate turning marine? Jango or something, the guy from kuro's crew, the hypnotist guy.
@Kitsune::

Uh… you're not even trying, so I don't how to respond to that.
Olivia was probably in the crew for a time, but no one else.

The Coby point is invalid, since, as you said, he was forced into piracy by Alvida. The points about Redbeard and Jango, however, stand. However, I think it was a less frequent occurrence then a Navy officer turning pirate. And despite that, I still find it unlikely that the Marines would accept an ex-member of Roger's crew, or that Bellemere had any motivation to go from joining Roger's crew to being a Marine. It's just unlikely, basically.
Olivia was probably in the crew for a time, but no one else.
She may have taught him how to read and write the poneglyph style writing.
Tom made Roger's ship, not his pirate flag, which is generally referred to as a 'jolly roger'.
jolly roger is the name of the pirates flag (the skull and crossbones)
tom was found guilty for making roger's ship, as far as we know tom didn't have anything to do with the pirate kings flag… now in the future maybe usopp will be found guilty of designing the strawhat flag
btw rogers ship was called the Oro Jackson
Yes, remember that Tom was a SHIPWRIGHT, and built Roger's ship (the Oro Jackson).
Can the WG even prosecute someone for just creating the jolly roger?
I've always kind of assumed that just flying the Jolly Roger was considered a crime in the One Piece world given the World Government's stance on piracy.

No, but they can get you for flying it…
