Most leechers just ungrateful?

Okay, so I'm not posting here because I expect nobody to be like this, think that the subbers deserve more respect etc…

But is it just me, or do most commentors on the "unstable" groups (Instantz and AnimeSoftSubs) just seem to be bashing the groups? They think they're entitled to a release 3 hours after the show airs and start bitching if there is a problem or if one of the groups takes some time to release while the other has it finished. (I.e. one group has it out on Sunday/Monday and the other has some problems or something and releases maybe Thursday) - Because they're used to quick releases?

One Piece is the only series that I really see this on - Naruto and Bleach are always covered anyway and DB doesn't have a messageboard for people to flame on... (Though I bet their email fills up a lot) -- The shorter series usually have more groups doing them because, well, they're short. It's not as much a commitment to do as a series like One Piece, with the manga still going strong and no set finishing date, and those usually have the more patient users. Also, they're more convenient as to new anime watchers who most of the time do not know at all of the process or work that goes into creating the subtitles for each episode and think it's just like 20 minutes of copy/pasting or something about as stupid - Instead, on the short series they're usually completed, or pretty much, and thus you're pretty good on not getting comments from impatient assholes.

I've been on for the whole day now, while at school, deleting flaming comments and other bashing comments. We've gotten so many "wuuuuuh, give me my one piece ;___;" comments or something like "how the hell can you need a day for one encoding!!!" (Even though it's only like 6 hours, but it's easier to just say a day...) and something like "plz do softsubs" (Which my group isn't going to do, and we've stated that countless times already)

For every 10 bashers, there's maybe one that respects us. (This is taking only the commentors)

I haven't seen as much of this at Vegapunk, which may be because of their register-only commenting system… (I've had the same person post 6 comments under different names all bashing and flaming)

I know it is like this at AnimeSoftSubs (I check their site's comments after we release to see whether they've been bashed lots or whatever...) and I'm sure it's been like this at more groups that have done One Piece (and other long-running series) but I want to see comments from "sane" people - Is it really like this, or is it just that the whiners like commenting more (probably) and the patient ones are like "I'll just wait until release post and then I'll say thanks :D!" -- Do we really have to live in a society (of anime fans) that's made up of such ungratefulness?

I watched all of K-F's near perfect releases from episode 1-225, then picked up with ADC and Gerusama, finding them not quite as perfect, but still, I had few complaints. Then I got to VP and their HD releases, and I knew I'd found my favorite fansub group. Then... they got sluggish, and I was still craving immediate releases. So, I found your group, and have streamed and/or downloaded most of your episodes since then, knowing that I'd end up downloading the Vegapunk releases once they became available. It's really awesome that you can get releases up so quickly, I'm really quite impressed. I'm the kind of guy that gets so impatient for something he wants that he'll do anything he can to get it sooner. Like, I bought a Wii on its launch day so I could play Twilight Princess a month sooner than its GC release. Thanks for keeping me sane. :>

I'd probably flame DB if they had a comment system for their updates. They're really mean people. :( Plus, Naruto sucks and stuff.

And, really, anyone who complains about a fansub group should just learn Japanese well enough that they don't have to rely on that group.

You make it sound like he's fishing for compliments, but I think he's just upset with all the insults. Nobody should have to expect insults to work you do for a general community.

naw, we're probably looking at those people who just started watching One Piece Episode one last friday… Cause the older fans are more patient than that. Me? I appreciate the fast release but I wouldn't mind them getting delayed for a week but what I can't accept is for the manga to be released several days after!!! GRRRRR!!!!!

I can assure you that Vegapunk (which is really the most unstable OP fansub group right now IMO) is extremely glad to have 2 other groups keeping up with the current releases while we try to recover some of our former grandeur. Besides what you stated, the other reason we don't have so many haters on our forum is because they've given up and moved on to INP and ASS since they know we aren't going to release in a timely manner. Unfortunately as long as is anime there will be immature fanboys who think they have nothing better to do than complain about a free service that provides them with subs for their favorite anime even though they couldn't sub their way out of a paper bag. There's no way to get rid of them completely - all we can do is control the damage as much as possible. And, in a way it is motivation, at least for me, to keep looking for ways to improve the speed and quality so people will be less likely to complain.

Probably the same as if Naruto subs disappeared, except with maybe better punctuation.

On topic; I usually expect a sub within….7 days or so, of it's original airing, since I know that life and such gets in the way, and even if it takes forever I don't fret, since there's a good chance I know what happens in the episode anyways. Multiple groups subbing the same episode make it easier for people to complain about the speed, but people can get the raws online only so fast. =P

Anyway, looking at that, and with no knowledge prior im sure one could tell that this would be quite long to do themselves-let alone in a team!.
I dont really like Dattebayo's attitude myself, but if I would'nt want to do all that and put up with a bunch of ungrateful narutards(etc)

actually, I'd say they probably started watching subbed anime in the last 12 months. In time they will learn to be patient.

Granted, I don't go to your personal forums. But I remember when I first started coming here, I came thinking I'd get a discussion of each episode, but instead, all I'd see are threads full of people thanking the subbers.

Which is great, but nothing I need to be reading through.

The problem with this place is 90% of everyone on this board is a manga reader, and thats where all the discussion takes place. By the time in comes out in the anime, its all old news to everyone here.

So for a purely anime watcher like myself, the only reason I still pop in here is to look for release announcements.

Well, Hyrrokin, I can't say that I disagree with you. AnimeSS has had to deal with a barrage of negative comments every week, and of course, this is a result of group loyalties. It is clear that some people are very strong Instantz loyalists and others, very strong AnimeSS loyalists. I personally started fansubbing as a drama fansubber, and truthfully that world is much nicer to the fansubbers. Groups work together to prevent repetitive subbing, and the competition is never as stiff. As a result, people tend to be more grateful to the groups that sub their favorite series, because they are the ONLY groups subbing it. In the anime world, there is always stiff competition between groups to sub the same anime, and inadvertantly, the fans get releases earlier and earlier. Therefore, when a group miraculously pulls a Sunday release of One Piece, the crowds go wild and start expecting Sunday releases every week. Unfortunately negative comments come with the business, but in response to MonkeyDMalcolm, I would say that we DO fansub for the sake of praise. I mean, if that isn't why people fansub, then I can only assume they are fansubbing for their own viewing pleasure which makes absolutely no sense as fansubbers are usually capable of viewing the raws. I for one do fansub for the praise and the sake of the viewers.

I don't think you need to worry too much about the people who are flaming you;
People are always going to find something to complain about–

The fact that they're complaining about you can be seen as a good thing--! That means they're depending on you for your subs. It means that you're reaching people! If you weren't popular (e.g. no one knows about you), you wouldn't be getting many complaints, either.

You could reply to them with something like "Thank you for being so passionate about our progress" or something.

The truth is, I will not complain about the length of time it ever takes to sub. I've said it before and I'll say it again:
Until these groups become legal, subscription services, we have NO right whatsoever to complain. Instead, we should thank them for every release. They are doing it because they love the show, (and hopefully us leechers.)

i'd like to say i am very grateful and appreciative of the work you guys put into these fansubs, they make my week every time you put one out whether it is a day after or 7 after, keep up the great work and know there are people out there that truly are grateful and would be screwed without you

Kind of ironic that we have a similar topic about OP scanlations that just appeared this week.

For me, I appreciate what work both groups do. I haven't actually picked a group to be loyal to; I just get what comes out first. Also, I'm mainly a manga reader, so the fansubs are more of a bonus to me. Listening to the voices and music, seeing the action scenes, and even seeing some manga panels elaborated on a little bit more (filler can be hit or miss, but it's all good) help enrich my enjoyment of OP.

As someone who first started with K-F, I'm used to being patient for episode releases. Besides, you guys have lives (school, jobs, general health care), so it really is unfair that you fansub groups have to deal with all the crap that you have to put up w/ from unruly fans. I know that the episodes will come eventually. And when they do, it's like a mini-Christmas present.

Besides, if you want to talk about patience, the two men who make the best Indiana Jones hats take about a year from when you ordered them to get them shipped to you. Those buyers truly have patience for their product that they're waiting for, which is expertly hand crafted to perfection.

I used to be mainly only interested in bleach, then naturo. I found one piece and saw that the story line behind, it the deeper plots and just generally amazing island designs and ideas captivated me. One piece is my favorite anime and manga now (and yes still my favorite while bleach is doing the vizard pre arc stuff.).

While i was really into bleach and havent watched the other manga, i know on clubbleach.net that DB ended up posting on there because of all the complainers about the subs being slow (even though there out like around 8pm est every release, rare time midnight). I like i wrote in that post, people are retarded and need to learn some damn patience. Every single subber group out there is offering a free service, you dont shit there and bitch about release time, then turn around and take their subs for free.

Before i even found forums like mangahelpers etc, it took me almost a week before i could find the last release of manga or anime just because some sites are slower at adding them to their main page after the links are spread out on the forums.

I wonder how many impatient kids would go insane if they could get their hands on OP eps and manga for a week, may stop them from bitching next time when it takes a day or two to make a sub. If i was in a popular sub group, i'd probably do it to prove a point lol :P

I've long since given up in expecting regular releases of One Piece. I check Instantz every so often but don't get bothered if it's not up right away. Of course, the anime has been kinda sluggish in recent episodes, now that it's picking up again I demand you forsake all else to insure a timely release. :p

Seriously though, I'm a patient guy (I read the Berserk manga, that good enough for you?), so if Instantz/ASSubs don't have the latest episode within the week, then I figure they got midterms/finals/their people got sick or had a vacation or something (summer)/etc, so I should just look for something else to watch or re-watch something neat, big deal.

The quicker the groups find a HD raw the quicker they can sub it, if a HD raw is unavailable for a couple of days after the show aired then it will be a few days late, simple as. So if you want to help them find a HD raw or record one yourself then be quiet until they get one.

Easy way to get rid of them. The only thing i want in a sub is qualitiy how long it takes doesnt matter (iam reading Berserk,too.. seems to be a good patience practise).Qualitiy sometimes needs time. Iam very grateful for every qualitiy sub, with good, near perfect translation. I have high respect for everyone doing this in their free time. And people who cant wait to get something for free, just have to be banned. End of story.
