Whilst a fishman is born 10 times stronger. I know it's now comparison, but the fishman does have a considerable head-start.
I think Luffy still has a formidable strength without his gomu gomu powers. I mean, look how long he stretches his arms, the gomu gomu no mi only makes you stretch, but doesn't give you the insane power to stretch that far. He lifts boulders and all sorts of things, I think he'd still be kickass without his gomu gomu no mi powers.
It'd be something like Tom, isolated by his rather racist peers and left to live with humans who, no matter how much good he did, considered him to be a monster.

Fishmen like Arlong were much more common then nicer ones like Hatchan, and even he wasn't entirely good and did things to humans.
Before the whole world government issue, Tom was working in a secret place, under the bridge. Reason? Because of people generally hating him, for being a rather scary-looking and massive fishman.
Luffy wouldn't have the hilarious stretching skills, but knowing Luffy, he could easily come up with attacks suited for a normal human.

The star turns into a seed, the seed into a tree which sucks up the evil through the water (thus being the reason why water imobilizes DF users) and after time to time it's suffering becomes to great and it lets it out in the form of a fruit, which falls down into random places in the world.
Not too sure whether he was just fooling with me, or being honest.There is something weird about his eyes. Or maybe he uses contacts to get the whole vampire look.

Pondering over something isn't really relaxing, it's a personal opinion but I think there's enough time to relax when I'm dead.

He knew Gol D. Roger pretty well, having him as a regular customer. Gol D. Roger knew how to decipher poneglyphs, so maybe he told the barman something. Or maybe someone else, he did after all, read the Rio poneglyph.
Smoker was friends with that barman, and he's really influental and knows a lot for his age. But then again, maybe a big, old turtle knows everything about that century, I don't know.800?! There. Once more, me watching the funimation dub has hit me in the face. :getlost:
