Ok, back to topic, I really hope everyone isn't still bugging out because almost killed that pirate guy, because there has been other crazy deaths in One Piece, also, I hope Oda keeps it the way it is without killing off characters, we actually get to see in the Cover Stories how the characters are doing ex. CP9, Croc, Enel, blah blah blah, Oda has his own style and hopes he keeps it like that, and if others don't like it, go play in shark infested waters!

Well, at this point Luffy has survived, and seen others survive, far more certain deaths then a shot to the head. He's also a guy who didn't understand why the bubbles would vanish until he was told they were mystery bubbles.
Also, since the man in question was a slave, it is entirely possible that it was a tranquillizer instead of an actual bullet. Not overly likely mind you since the nobles seem to be complete bastards but still possible.

but of course luffy will be hard the kill, being the main protagonist. his amazing "rebirths" after the crocodile fights were fun and dramatic.
but this slave guy, oda could have killed him just for dramatic effect, but now we're unsure if hes alive or dead (I assume alive)
OP characters are tenacious. smash them with anvils, blow them up with dynamite theyll be ready for action in the next panel. shoot one in the face with a shotgun and all it will do is make his face dirty.

im sure he doesn't object to killing but no character thus far has maybe deserved it other than arlong, which we havent heard from in a long while
I have to say I agree with Greg on both Lost and the issue of death.
If anybody is going to die, it'll either be Luffy or the Thousand Sunny. I've always seen the lack of death as meaning the character would be important later on…

I don't think it needs more or less death. The story is made up by the connection between the Strawhat crew and their friends / foes, not by the bloodbath / massacre. When Oda used the "death mechanic" he did it to give a fundament for a situation (Nami's fight against Arlong and her hate for pirates, Zoro's "lifeforce" etc.)
However regarding previous mentioned "mass deaths" in manga's making the passing of a character too formal I have to disagree. We see tons of Death in Death Note, yet L's and Watari's death is touching despite all. This is however just a small bottomnote… The style of OP and DN are completly different afterall :P

I think Oda should stick to his views, never kill off any good characters!
Oda really has no reason to kill off his characters in his story, I was pissed at Naruto for letting Jirayai and Itachi die but the Story has it's reasons for killing characters off.
