The HK subs were at least humerous with their (unintentional) mistranslations. All the dub makes me do is cry. Cry long and cry hard.

I chose the HK-subs(Even thought I never saw one in my life) since atlest they dont edit and change the voices.
I can understand the HK episodes quite well, even without the subs. Really, because I've seen the episodes so many times. But there's the quality issue, and the whole thing about piracy.
The 4Kids dub is just…..bad. However, the DVDs are guaranteed to be uncut. If they ever come out....

I chose HK subs. They ain't perfect, but they ain't edited either. it doesn't really matter for me, I'd be able to watch HK subs and just listen to the japanese. Not bother with the subs. I quite simply can't stand 4Kids edits. Or VA. Damn, it's vile… But morbidly funny, nothing like the dub to get you laughing your arse off at the most emotionally impacting scene.

I've only seen part of two episodes of the Hong Kong bootlegs. And the translation sucked. I saw one episode of the Alabasta arc, and the one when Nico Robin joins the Straw Hat Crew. What's worst is that the same company did subbing of Naruto.
Anyway, I think the 4 Kids dub is worst.

For somethings 4Kids gets the translation good… but for others... Yeesh!
I don't live in america so i can't see the 4kidsh## , but judging by all the edits they make i prefer the hk subs , they are not perfect but the show is integral and there are no edits ,but in the for kid thing ( they don't choose that name for nothing when you see what they do to the show ) the show is totally killed , smashed , crushed and even fked by all those dumb edits!! the result is very comical for us but it so sad at the same time

i only saw ep 1 and the hella "rubber knife" scene of the 4kids dub. i voted for the hk-subs but it's about making a choice between plague and cholera, as hk subs ruined so many eps and made me wonder if the jaya-skypea arc was good… and kf, with ep 144 and 145 answered to me: it will rock.
i would rather have a good laugh over engrish and weird name translations
then have to sit through bad scripts, stupid puns every 10 seconds, bad edits, bad va, bad bgm, and a rap opening anyday.

HK subs for me, their translations are quite accurate, i had been watching them now and then. What makes people thinks the translations of HK subs is inaccurate is because they tend to use chinese phases instead of normal sentences. Some can be difficult to understand , like the ones they translated in the opening and closing credits.
Quality wise, I don't mind, since there are both AVI and rvmb formats. I haven't watch 4kids but I had heard clips of here and there so…..I think i prefer original voices and original scripts, subs are easy to ignore as long as they are not too big and too much sub colors text that causes obstruction of enjoyment irritates the hell out of me. so HK subs nods
I'll have to say HK subs because I prefer listening to One piece the way it should be, In japanese. I really don't care how inaccurate the subs are, but as long as I can watch it without the english language and without so many things getting taken out etc etc.
Plus I really don't care about the dub, let alone not even watched it once, so my vote is for HK.

Why is this even a choice? The HK Subs, obviously.
The original content is left there, the original Japanese spoken language, the opening sequences, ending sequences, original soundtrack, episode previews, commercial break sequences… I mean, what?
So, you have to put up with a bit of Engrish. I happen to love Engrish, and I've seen some absolute gems during the HK Subbed versions.
Who would even considered picking the hacked apart, edited, ruined dubbed version, over the actual original content with some bad subtitles? - That's not even fair on 4Kids Entertainment, despite all the travesty they've brought about with getting the rights to release One Piece in the Western World.
Engrish rocks. Besides, I'd like to learn the Japanese language, too, then I won't even need to Engrish subtitles! - But, I'd still use 'em, obviously. I have my entertainment, other people have their own. So be it.
First off, anyone who PREFERS the 4Kids dub to ANYTHING…is probably under the age of 6. I'd rather read the manga if anything, but I'd watch the subs, definately.

Just a little tidbit, Johnny says things like "If they don't gots what it takes" in the dub, which isn't good grammar, but meh =P
If it was in the long run then that's like asking whether I want to watch a movie translated to French or German. One will annoy me a lot and one I won't understand as well. So in that case neither.
The dub's audio/music annoys me. Not mainly the content, and not mainly that it's always there, but the LOUDNESS of it. I can't hear voices well with background music like that.
On the other hand I detest bad spelling punctuation and grammar. I don't mind if say, in every episode there's one spelling/punctuation mistake, but I HATE things like "Your not listening" (if you don't see anything wrong you truely are dumb). IIRC, the quality checker's job is to make sure the spelling, punctuation and grammar is good. Sad thing is, I've seen fansubs on the INTERNET that are that bad, namely animehaven's Rockman.EXE episodes.

Gimme bad subs any day, at least I can understand what they're trying to say. And it's the original Japanese audio. The 4Kids dub hurts my ears, and makes my head hurt.
Not seen either. But so long as you have good subs, then since the point most people watch HK subs is to get ahead, its useful for timeleaping. 4kids isn't useful

i vote hk subs coz when i heard they changed lollipop on sanji that did it for me, and hell that opening song just plain SUCK they must burn in hell
HK subs are great cos the stories are intact and i like subtitles.
HK subs. Both are occasionally unintentionally hilarious, but at least with the HK subs I won't have to listen to the horrible voice acting of the dub. And I like my One Piece uncut.
The HK subs are freaking funny! What's up with the names? When I saw episode 130 at a Japanese store at the mall I go to, I thought "Why the hell did they call him 'Roof'?". I know that they called Chopper 'Chobba" or something.

I don't know what Robin's name was changed to. But, the name translations could be a misunderstanding of the Japanese pronunciations of English names. Like, when I saw a fansub of Fullmetal Alchemist, one character's names was Gluttony, but it was translated to 'Blatney".
