So, my computer is generally safe, even if my security is low, I know how to handle things. I have AdAware SE and Spybot. Unfortunately, my freinds decided it's best if I download all their crap for them, and I'm assuming one of the 3 or 4 torrents I've used in the last few days managed to have some form of virus in it.

Normally, this would be no problem. Compared to my last infection(which was a major infection, pretty nasty stuff) this is tame. The problem is, neither AdAware nor Spybot are picking this virus up. It finds cookies, however, from various advertisement agencies, the ones that are blocked by some BitTorrent programs, used to block IPs of known ad and anti-P2P organizations.

So basically spybot and adaware all pick up these cookies being left by it, but I can't find the "portal" virus, which is letting them all in. After a full scan and promptly wiping the cookies out, my computer is fine for about a half an hour. Then there's another one. But a single cookie(or this hidden virus) is sitting somewhere and using up all my CPU. explorer windows(like My Computer, etc) will regularly stop responding, closing them will result in a "program not responding, end process?" option. This, however, end the explorer.exe process, and my taskbar and such reset themselves. This is a major pain.

Would anyone here have an idea about how to stop this infection once and for all? It's luckily not a major infection, but it's pretty irritating. I have a ton of accounts, so security is a potential issue, and I absolutely despise anything that dares to slow my already obsolete computer down. Please, anyone have a clue how to find this "portal" that is placing cookies on my computer?

        Download this:
        http://www.download.com/AVG-Anti-Virus-Free-Edition/3000-2239_4-10788045.html?tag=pop.software
Run it and fix whatever problems come up. Quarentine anything when asked.

        Next, after that, run this.
        http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en-US/_download/HiJackThis.exe

Do a system scan and save logfile.

PM me the contents, then I will tell you where to go from there.

Do it in EXACTLY that order (do not run HijackThis before AVG).

PM'd you most of the log, but it wouldn't fit and I didn't want to spam your inbox with more than 2 PMs at a time.

Is there more steps to take? Are you just checking to make sure my computer is clean? An update would be nice, as soon as you log in.

Is your computer restarting without warning and is your cookies being deleted from time to time? If so, I think we have the same problem, only the part being yours doesn't happen frequently to me.

              Seems to have been solved.

And no, there was no restarting, and the opposite was true, it was ADDING cookies and sucking up all my CPU, even causing explorer.exe to crash.

Runa's technique really helped, you could try asking Runa to help you solve your problem, I don't know if the same technique would work for both of us. Yours seems worse, if it's restarting your computer.
