Yeah, so it's stupid to just pin it to some old rocker.

That's horrible. Are they going to edit Jotaro's hat and put a little six on it so his new nickname will make sense?

:P
Oops. Didn't know someone already thought of that. :P Since I seen that whole "Roku's Bizzare Adventure" speculation, I kinda figured that the six would either appear on the hat or the back of his uniform or his shirt.
I got the SJ with the preview in it and I was so relieved when I saw that he was still Jotaro. I wasn't too big a fan of the revised first chapter as I thought it should describe the previous two arcs that were skipped. It was pretty good though.
BTW, Abdul is now Avdol. Its not too big a deal imo.
Avdol was the name Capcom used for him in the US game, if I recall.
Wait, they're starting at part 3?!
Wait, they're starting at part 3?!
Yep.
Yeah, I read it today. They actually skipped the very beginning of Part III, too.
they are starting at part 3
they are using the capcom names from Jojo's Bizarre Adventure : Heritage for the Future and the PS version of the game as well
hopefully from there it stays pretty faithful

I think they had Araki rewrite and redraw the chapter.
I wonder how all the rock star references will be changed. My guess is either they'll follow Capcom's names or they'll change them to song or album titles (for example Oasis will be Wonderwall or Morning Glory)
Then again I don't know anything. ^_^;;
Redraw?! Hell, I should've bought the Jump to compare it to scans.
Yeah, they took out the part where Star Platinum stops Jotaro from shooting himself and the part where Holly is at the police station where the cops describe what Jotaro did.
Was it the full chapter or VIZ's idea of a preview with only 20 pages that don't really explain anything. In the fan-mail section last issue they said that the previews would be full chapter. Are they?
It looked like it was actually the second chapter of Part III.
Hell. They messed it up by the sound of it. I wonder how they handled the part where Jotaro thinks Star Platinum is an evil spirit without the whole "him trying to shoot himself with the guards gun" scene.
Prison Guard: "What are you doing with that paper wad?!"
Jotaro: "Look! An evil spirit has possesed me!"
throws paper wad at himself, SP knocks it back with a pissy little slap.
(Guard stares with disbelief)
Jotaro: "Told ya."
Guard: "Allright young man, off to a kid friendly, murderer and rapist free jail with you!"
Having never read the original, I'm not sure how to react. I was however planning on buying the graphic novels as I have been keen to read it for a while. Now, I dunno…
Not much to worry about, it was just a preview. Though, it did feel a bit different.
Fair enough. I think I'll still check it out then.
If I were Araki, I would'nt have taken the time to re-draw the scenes of my work just because some kids mothers don't want to see a guy try to shoot himself and be stopped in a cool way. They don't like it, they don't have to buy it. Edits suck.
I supose I might understand the point of the edits if it was released in Shonen Jump, but (to the best of my knowledge) it's part of the advanced range, which I thought was aimed at people in their late teens. I some how doubt soccer moms would care if their sixteen year old child saw that. I just don't get the logic behind Viz's censorship. What is wrong with the uncut manga they originally promised us?
As I thought, they didn't take out the scene with the gun. They used the second chapter, probably because it has a lot more story to it.
I can't be sure if anything was redrawn though, because I didn't buy the Jump issue.
Im gonna get it Tuesady. I'll tell you how horrible it is. Hopefully they do use the Capcom game name translations. for a while there I was scared they were going to go with Roku for Jotaro and it would all have to be redrawn like hell. I wonder if it will make it all the way to Steel Ball Run or if they'll end it after the end of the Jotaro storyline. At the very least it could go to The Jolyne story. On Jason Thompson's (one of SJ America's eitors and apparently a huge Jojo fan) Jojo FAQ it says that the first American volume will contain the last chapter of the Japanese vol. 12 and the entirety of Japanese vol. 13. There's also an 8-page introduction by Araki (although almost all the artwork is recycled from the original story, not redrawn).
EDIT: Yep, they used chapter two. They idn't do a bad job (so far) so I may just pick up the Graphic Novel. Still, it's a damn shame that the Jonathan and Joseph storylines aren't being published.
I flipped through it today and re-read chapter 2 for comparison and I'd have to say they did a pretty good job.
That was actually the first time I ever read anything from a Jojo series, but I didn't get one certain question answered: what is Stand? The series does look interesting though.
Stands are astral beings that project from certain people known as Stand Users. They protect their users with mystical powers (that's where the fighting comes in). They can be anything from a floating spirit-monkey to a cabin to a comic book. Their powers depends on their connection, so the more powerful the stand, the shorter its range. Oh, and only Stand Users can see them.
The stands are the "evil spirits" that Jotaro and Abdul(Avdol) had.
Sorry about that. I heard a rumor about Araki creating a new chapter.
And stands are kinda like the oversouls from Shaman King except they're rarely seperate, independent spirits.
If you want an idea of what the Stands are in Jojo, it's VERY similar to the idea of the Alters from S-CRY-ed. (Almost ripoff similar)
I've only seen the first episode of it, but Kazuma's Alter is nothing like a Stand.
Well, save for Kazuma's alter, the rest kinda remind me of Stands, like Ryuho's (which is kinda like The World, because it moves so fast) and Azuka's which is eight green balls (That kinda reminded me of Tonio Trussdardi's stand Pearl Jam for some reason.)
