I considered writing a lurk more article on this when it was occurring, but decided against it for two reasons.
1. It's not funny. I'm not out to strut my stuff as some moral leader or anything, I agree with the Anonymous opinion that it's hypocritical to denounce satire of stuff like this on the internet because of the cases of murder/death that happen all the time. But nothing of this incident is funny beyond the forced attempts at humour. Looking at the kid who coined "an hero", the whole hilarity of his death stems over not only the bizarre circumstances that say something about the state of society (it's dumb), but it also reflected the utter stupidity of the mourners.
What most of the articles don't tell you is Cody's nephews (who he was playing with) were older than him, one being sixteen years old. That shakes up the context of it being an "accident" when you consider we're talking about an uncle who is younger than his nephews.
2. It's not unique. None of the jokes stemming from this death are in any way interesting/unique or inside-worthy. I already mentioned Mitchell Henderson's death, which was a much more interesting precedent than this case. Not to mention as far as anime-related deaths are concerned, the Iranian boy who jumped off his roof while trying to imitate Pidgeotto and the kid who climbed into his fireplace thinking he turned into a Magmar were both more exotic than this case.
Was this tragic? Yes. Is it funny? Not really. Are people struggling to make fun of it? Yes.
lol narutofans r duuuumb
I sense a lock and presumably a ban on this one.
