To be fair One piece gets more into a chapter than Naruto/Bleach normally do so it's ok for him to take more breaks.

Considering how long One Piece is, we're downright lucky that Oda hasn't gone the same route as HxH…
-
Oda is some kind of super-human. Drawing quality chapters every week for months, with so many little details, backgrounds… Amazing. It's hard to imagine if one haven't tried drawing, but after that, it gets clearer every moment. Heh, Oda probably draws an entire page while I finish up a single head of a character.

2009 - and complaining about too many breaks?
You've been through a few surely including the time skip.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_statutory_minimum_employment_leave_by_country
20 Days paid leave is the min for Japan I'm sure he is probably entitled to much much more. Unless you're in the US in which case you're the only country in the world who doesn't have paid leave O.o thats kinda messed up.

Australia FTW i thought ours was just the standard haha.
And on the break schedule is it every 5 or 7 weeks he takes break?
-
have manga's gone on a break this week?

@¡Sanji:

What you think pal?

Even though it's closed, I'd like to direct people to the thread for a Punk Hazard checklist. Maybe it doesn't warrant discussion that could be covered in the New World discussion thread, but it's like a spiritual successor to the One Piece Information chart that's been abandoned for a while now, tailored to Punk Hazard.
I can remove this link if needed but, here!

He doesn't draw the backgrounds, his assistants do that. He only draws things that "move" like characters, clouds, fire, water etc. which really isn't that hard for a manga author. He has a pretty easy job.

Ahahahahahaha
"Pretty easy job" dude I really hope you're just being sarcastic for some reason 'cause you can't possibly be serious about that.

As far as I know, he does draw the backgrounds the first time they appear. And as detailed some of the backgrounds have become, that's big enough even if you don't do it every week.
Things that move would also be ships, weapons and the sorts. And I suppose also buildings if they characters smash them/into them so they become part of the action scene. Furthermore, basically every panel has a moving/living thing while not all have backgrounds. So unless you think drawing a 19 page chapter in itself is an easy job, then Oda sure doesn't have it easy. :pI don't know how much help manga artists usually get from their assistants, though. I'd suppose it's quite common that the artist himself draw his non-bystander characters, since they are the lifeblood of the story, while the assistants often do the backgrounds. I noticed in Fairy Tail that while the art is generally quite good, some of the bystanders look extremely simple/crude so I suspect that Mashima had his assistants draw them (that, or he could not be bothered with drawing bystanders at all, so he just drew some circles and dots and hoped that would be good enough).

He doesn't draw ships. Also when someone's talent gets to a certain level it gets incredibly easy, and that's probably true for Oda. Michael Jordan got so good at basketball that he could make shots with his eyes closed. Oda's job isn't hard(for him).
-
Its not about how hard it its, but how much time it consumes. Most of his life probably.

Hm, this page… http://www.mangahere.com/manga/one_piece/v32/c303/17.html
I suppose Oda wouldn't draw the background of the second panel since it really only is a background even if it's a moving ship. But how about the first panel? Going Merry is the focus of the panel (the clouds are the background), and it is sailing, i.e. moving. I think Oda himself drew that.

It's easy to tell when Oda draws something and he definitely didn't draw it in the first panel. When he said moving he meant stuff from nature like smoke, clouds, water, fire etc.

I don't know if you're speaking in the context of drawing alone or just being a mangaka in general (I mean yes he's been drawing for years, I'm sure he feels he's close to mastering it by now) but I don't really think you can say his life as a mangaka is a breeze. Generally their schedules are pretty taxing. I remember there being a buzz on the forums when one artist released details about how he manages his time.
Oda has said in an interview that he wakes up at 5am and works until 2am, usually sleeping three hours a day from 2 to 5. He added that he doesn't take any time off and hardly ever goes outside.
I'm sure this stems from the fact that he's a workaholic and if he didn't want to be doing this he could change it, but still. I don't know how much of that time is spent drawing and how much is spent doing other various mangaka duties, but if he's not overly exaggerating that seems like a pretty pretty tiring (and potentially unhealthy) work load. -

But I doubt it's hard work for him, CUS IF YOU DO SOMETHING YOU LOVE YOU NEVER WORK A DAY IN YOUR LIFE xD
