I just bought a 320GB hard drive for storing massive files.
I went to put on a 4GB file and it says:
"Not enough disk space"
WHAT THE FUCK!? NOT ENOUGH SPACE!? IT'S GOT 316 GB LEFT!!!!!
What's the friggin' deal!?

did you save in the wrong drive… is there protection on that hard drive?
Posting the make of your external hard drive, size of your primary/slave (if any) hard drive, age of your computer, would help.
Also check and see how it's showing on My Computer > right click > Manage > Disk Management…
maybe it needs to be formatted @_@a statement probably not helpful
strange even if it's formatted as FAT32 it shouldn't complain untill you put 32 GB on it.
Usually you need to reformat to NTFS or whatever it's called as manufacturers make FAT32 standard (less space but it works together with most other filesystems)
I discovered this after putting 20Gig on my External. maybe your manufacturer were smart enough to not allow you to put anything on there untill you reformat?
well, I asume, since it is greg, it's a japanese EXHD. So, western rules for electronics may not apply?
How is that just western rules? if it's formatted in the wrong system he can't use it, doesn't matter if it's wrongly formatted in japan or in "the west".
Btw: I suggest reading the instruction manual
I think it has to do with individual file size. A limitation of the connection perhaps? I can add a 10Gig folder but not a 4Gig individual file. It uses a USB 2 connection so maybe that's a limiting factor. I've had no problem adding other files. Oh well, guess it's just a limitation of the hardware…

Nah that sounds fishy. You should reformat it and try again, also what kind of computer do you have? If you have a mac you should reformat it to "Mac Extended". If you have a pc try either fat32 or NTSF. There is no reason that a new HD should be unable to transfer small sizes esp if its usb 2.0
If that still does not solve anything you should get it replaced.
Actually the 4gig individual filesisze limitation sounds like he already has FAT32.
I would highly suggest reformatting the external.
If you don't want to change system you need atleast to partition it into 10 segments or else you wont be able to use all the Gigs on it.
Gorlom & joebob, your advice sounds fantastic, but I don't know what it means.
I have a PC running XP Prof.
So how can I perform some of what you've described?
Here is the step-by-step from microsoft:
