Okay,thanks for the explanation.
I´ll start reading the manga these days, but then I´ll have a lot to do (over 500 chapters lol)
Throughout this month, we will be testing new features (like search) so you may experience some hiccups from time to time. We'll try to not be too disruptive...

hahahahahaha lolz
his catch phrase: ZA WARUDO isn't on the pic , that's a shame.
ps: I am reading part 6 ( Thanks Nurlock and your team for this, you are life savers), and really I don't understand the people saying this part is the shitiest, untill now this part was only made of win.
I like pucci alot too, not as much as kira but he comes close and he uses his white snake in very original ways.
well only half has been scanlated till now and I hope it ll stay this good. -

its kinda okay until they encounter the guy with the feng shui stand. After that its just a load of bullshit after another. the ending part however was the best after part 3's end imho.
! Maybe because Araki had the decency to just erase all the crap he had created with part 6.

Its unfortunate that I cant read part 6 yet. I have to wait until it gets translated like most of the people on here. Hopefully it gets done soon. Im really glad a new team picked this up so I can read it. They are doing a really good job to. I also wish we had better scans for the other parts like 3 but I but you take what you can get.
-
I still enjoy part three the best. Had a simple formula to it. but it definitely has sort of an odyssey feel to it. Jotaro is the man too. And Dio is such a wonderful villain.
It's hard for me to decide which I like better between part four and part five.
-
Part 3 is indeed awesome, I believe the best fight from 3 is iggy the fool vs. that bird and Polnareff vs. Vanilla Ice.
-
The hawk is Pet Shop/Petshop.
-
Anybody recommend picking up the dub Dvds? Im wondering how good they are and how closely they follow the manga. Also, do they have the option for Japanese voices? How is the translation to English? Is Jotaro's vulgar speech there as well?
-

The DVDs are bilingual and have subtitles. I dunno what you mean by "vulgar speech" but the translations are pretty good. Name changes to some characters, of course, but that's mostly to avoid any nasty legal matters. The dub is good for a laugh, too. (Jotaro's dub voice actor has a mean lisp, etc, etc.)
-
I just finished part 3 today, and it was really awesome. Each chapter keeps getting better and better (when you make each villian parts as one). My fav. is Iggy vs Petshop, it was hilarious (not to mention kickass)
btw, whats the summary for part 4 (dont mention about the villians or stuff like that)
-
Main character is Higashikata Josuke, the bastard son of Joseph.
Pretty much details his adventures with his friends in a town where lots of people have Stands. A good deal of it is dealing with how an average person would handle just gaining a random ability out of nowhere, which was pretty interesting.
Later on, an actual main villain shows up (naturally, a Stand User) and they have to try to stop him.
In my opinion, Part 4's villain is one step behind Dio in terms of awesomeness. For that reason, it's probably my favorite Jojo storyline.

What I meant by vulgar speech is the fact Jotaro curses alot. Is that in the dvds or do they change what he says?
-
From what I remember of part 3, Jotarou didn't have all that much of a foul mouth.
The DVD subs were similar. When people swore, the subs did too, and his ending line "…because you pissed me off" is still in there.
-
I gotta say that Part 4 is pretty overrated on here sometimes. I loved the ending and Kochi and Jotaro vs Kira, but some parts bored me to tears. Rohan was awesome though. Forgot to mention that.
-
I thought I'd end up not liking Part IV. Once I got past the goofy, second-hand translation scans, I started to get interested. The rest of the series seemed really linear, so the whole daily school life approach felt like a breath of fresh air. I think what got me hooked was when Okyasu became Josuke's friend.
After reading Golden Wind, that became my least favorite. Before then, it was Part II. It's not that it was bad or anything, because I enjoyed the story as a whole. But, I really disliked the ending, as I mentioned in one of my recent posts.
I don't remember alot about Part II, but I remember not liking Ceasar or the pillar men. Stroheim was pretty awesome, though, especially because of his resemblance to Guile from Street Fighter. (Yes, I know; He was the inspiration for Guile)
-
Part 5 had a lot more interesting story line and characters then Part 4 did imo. Sure Araki kind of killed it with Giorno's stand at the end (forget the term for it right now), but it was still a good arc.
-
I liked most of the characters in Part V, and the unique Stands. Mista and Sex Pistols has to be my favorite main character/Stand pair. Sticky Fingers was kinda neat, too.
I wasn't too sure how to feel about Polnareff showing up and helping the gang beat King Crimson. Though it did feel nice to see him be re-introduced for that short while, and fight against Diavolo in a wheelchair. I honestly don't know what I think about his soul being trapped in a turtle.
I think I mentioned it in one of my other posts, but it's not that I didn't like Part V. The plot was great. It's just that Golden Experience Requiem vs. King Crimson was a major disappointment. It also felt kind of weird when Fugo was all like "I'm not coming with you guys!" and decided not to come with Bucciarati.
-
I liked Part 4 for a variety of reasons. I thought the whole "everyday life, only with stands" concept was a nice change of pace. Kira was a great and unique villain, and the stands really started to come into their own with wacky stuff like Heaven's Door.
Part 5 was kinda hit-or-miss. I loved the stands and the battles a lot (Kraftwerk, Sex Pistols, Purple Haze, etc.) but I didn't think the cast was as enjoyable as Part 4's. Plus Diavolo was really lame. Overall I enjoyed it though.
-
Ugh, you've got that right about Diavolo. He was a pretty lame villain. To me, he made Cars look like Dio.
And speaking of Cars, while I never really liked his character, Joseph's fight with him was incredible. I know this is an overrated fight, but my favorite final fight was Jotaro vs. Dio. I remember the big shocker for me when I found out that Joseph really didn't get killed by him in the end, too.
-
Sooo, quick question of curiosity… Any more Steel Ball Run scanlated since volume...6ish? Haven't seen much said on here.

I just read part one and two, and I'm really disappointed with some of the "twists" that were pulled.
It just didn't seem like Caesar needed to die. I was unnecessary, there wasn't much sympathy to be felt for him since he didn't do much.
And also, the whole fact that he had all that training and build up to do nothing just pissed me off.
I don't know why, but Mr. Zeppeli's death was far less, "WTF! Why introduce him at all!?" feely, as Caesar.
Maybe it's because Mr. Zeppeli's added ripple actually MADE a difference.
Regardless, Joseph is my favorite Joestar. I've already read part 3 (multiple times), and I guess I'll read part 4 next.
ah yes, almost forgot, Drake and Speedwagon, their uselessness makes me wish they were never born.
I kinda wish part 3 was as short as parts 1 and 2 though. -
ah yes, almost forgot, Drake and Speedwagon, their uselessness makes me wish they were never born.
Speedwagon is pretty important overall for the later parts
-
I've been re-reading Phantom Blood for the last week or so. I forgot how awesome Zepelli was. He's definetely in my list of top 10 characters in the series.
(In no particular order)
1. Joseph Joestar
2. Rohan Kishibe
3. William A. Zepelli
4. Jotaro Kujo
5. Dio Brando
6. Yoshikage Kira
7. Rudolph von Stroheim
8. Josuke Higashitaka
9. Guido Mista
10. Koichi HiroseI might have to re-read other parts. The list is bound to change.
-
is it true that part 4 (which I'm currently reading) is set in the exact same place (meaning that there is no traveling what so ever)?
And also, why call parts 5-7 the way they are (Golden Wind, Stone Ocean, and Steel Ball Run)? Is it something to do w/ the main character?
-
@Jedi:

The titles of Parts 3-6 are probably based off the main characters' stands. (Star Platinum, Crazy Diamond, Gold Experience, Stone Free)
-
Pretty much.
For Steel Ball Run, it's both a reference to the horserace that the story's built around and a reference to Gyro Zepelli's weapon of choice.

Yeah, I'm fussy. :ninja:

Heh didn't know Part 6 was scanlated til Vol. 12.
-
I don't see why everyone loves part 3 so much. It has a lot of BS, and dues ex machina.
And let's not forget Muhammad Abdul's "death" half way through, and then unexplained survival.
Polnareff: We thought you were dead.
Abdul: You thought wrong!
What kind of explanation is that. How did he find them, and how did he get out of being buried alive? O_o

Polnareff: We thought you were dead.
Abdul: You thought wrong!

If I remember correctly, Abdul wasnt shown buried and just told Polnareff that they buried him.
Abdul stayed at a hospital during the time and then when he recovered he got in contact with the others and went to save Polnareff during one of the enemy stands (something that makes illusions of making "wishes come true")
The reason for not telling Polnareff was about him being a loud-mouth, thus risking him revealing where Abdul was.
From what i know, IRL, the reason that Abdul came back was because Araki got negative responds because of him being killed like that.! Which i found ironically since it's not like he put much of a fight before he died again. He saved Polnareff again, though.
-
I knew the reason why Abdul came back, it's just unexplainable. Kakoyin checked Abdul to confirm his death. That and he took a bullet to the brain, along with that, even if he could've been saved, it took Joseph and Jotaro too long to get there for it to have made a difference.
I need to go back and reread it, I missed the hospital part.
I'm just saying though, the heroes get saved a lot just because the bad guys have to be over the top with everything in part 3.
Dio stopped killing Jotaro JUST BECAUSE HIS FINGER MOVED?! WTF.
I'd shrugged that off and killed his ass… and then pondered about it.
I mean albeit if he did that, we'd get no steam roller of evil.
-
Road Roller, not steam roller >:o
-
Here is the part were he died: (pretty intentional, eh? :P)
http://www.onemanga.com/Jojo%27s_Bizarre_Adventure/142/14/And here is him coming back:
http://www.onemanga.com/Jojo%27s_Bizarre_Adventure/142/14/I agree that it felt weird of him dying and then coming back, but for the weirdness i felt for reading this series i got used to it and was happy of him coming back.
-
He didn't die the first time, so it wasn't that weird when he "came back". Besides, Abdul was a cool character, so I was happy when he showed up again. Everyone was saying he died to just fool Dio and his subordinates anyway, so it's not that shocking when they said, "Oh, he died, it hit his brain."
-
I read some more of part 4…it's getting really interesting. Every single time a new enemy comes out they seem to be much more stronger then the last one, well except of the cook (I forgot his name), but those chapters w/ the cook kinda awesome (and at the same time, weird)
Now I'm reading Rohan Kishibe's bizarre adventures
-

^That makes no sense at all. Why get hit with the bullet in the first place?
Dio wasn't targeting Abdul specifically, there was no point for all of that. It was pretty obvious Araki just wrote some BS way for Abdul to come back to life.
I don't like seeing cool characters die, but I don't like to see them revived in some absolutely stupid way. He shouldn't have yielded to his fans in that situation at all, especially since he did the same damn thing later.
Abdul was meant to die saving Polnareff because of their relationship, all it did was make Abdul's second death less emotional. (at least to me.)
I mean, I love Araki's work most of the time, but that grates me. Why couldn't he have been more creative like he did with Joseph's revival?
-
Araki admitted that Abdul wasn't meant to return, but he received some backlash from the fans.
And we all know Araki doesn't plan ahead.

Where did you hear that? Id like to hear more about any changes made to JOJO.
-
Where did you hear that? Id like to hear more about any changes made to JOJO.
Here are some changes that Araki made: (besides Abdul)
Part 3:
! This is just an assumption but take it with a grain of salt. From the beginning of part 3 Dio seemed to have similiar abilities as Joseph but in the end The World only stopped time.
I think there was a debate wether The World could to more than stop time or that Araki actually planned The World to inherit all the abilities of the standsPart 5:
! Fugo left the gang because Araki made him too powerful with Purple Hazes effect (it's a 1-hit-KO to everyone).
Part 6:
! When Annasui first appeared he was a woman but when he appeared again his sex was changed into a man.
Part 7:
! Dont remember much of it but it in the beginning, Sandman seemed to have the power to control sand, but later during the 2nd half of the series he has the ability to use sound as weapon (and revealed that his name was actually Soundman, mistaken by the americans as Sandman, which is odd since his tribe also mention him as Sandman)
-
Ok, scanlations are out. You guys are going to experience the only really good stand fight of Part 6.
-
i remember Fugo. Was quite the powerful stand. Made a pretty good chapter though.
but him leaving sucked. I kinda thought he was cool.
Although the group was given a choice. kinda different that one of them would choose to abandon the cause for his own safety

I kind of spoiled Fugo leaving Bucciarati's group before reading the rest of Part V. But yeah, him leaving was pretty disappointing.
-
Has anyone translated the Oingo Boingo Brothers book? Its kind of like a oneshot. Theres not much info on it but its kind of like Thus Spoke Kishibe Rohan.
-
^those are the 2 guys who try and stop Jotaro's gang but end up failing horribly right?
-
Pretty much. They had a short like book later on and its been talked about before on other Jojo forums, Im just trying to find it. I think its on wiki to. I know they list the light novels but I dont know if they follow the stories or if there canon or anything like that so thats not a big deal really. This book is supposed to be pretty funny though.
