Two things, one regarding the chapter, the other Jojolion as a whole.
First, chapter was great, one of the best of this part so far. Had that high energy and spurn that I feel the part overall lacks a bit.
Second, on Jojolion as a whole. Re-reading a summary of every bit here and there Araki has set up along the way…anyone else feels Araki might be biting more that he can chew in here? Setting things up has never been his forte, quite the opposite, he tends to pick things up and if they don't roll his way, he unashamedly throws them away and goes for something different.
During this part, he has set up like a gazillion different pieces that supposedly, by the end of it, must all fit into a single puzzle. In any other part I'd shrug off inconsistencies "cause Araki", and just enjoy the ride, but in a saga that rellies so heavily in the investigation and gathering of different clues that turn into plot elements scattered throughout it, I just hope Araki has everything carefully planned, cause he just chose to walk this way himself and, well, he should deliver on that promise.
Wasn't that already the name of the stand in that weird flashback thing at the end of vento aureo?
Tragically, you are right.
! Between a Rock and a Hard Place it is then
You're all so disappointing, it's obviously Riders on the storm.
Provided we stick with the rock-men/rock-in-stand-name pattern, my money is on
! 『Rock You Like an Hurricane』
Favorite guess thus far.
And wow. I didn't realize it until now, but with him being a "rock man" and having a wind based stand it really looks like this guy's the new universe's Wham.
God. Now I feel stupid.
Damn, got late for Stone Ocean discussion
Basically shows you that fate is undefeatable. Dio and minions are Coyote and Jojo's and friends are Road Runner, doesn't matter if they are dead.
Blame Jonathan for it.
Btw, regarding Diavolo
! I never understood how he was able to defeat Silver Chariot Requiem, after reading Jojo's wiki. Was an upset using shadow tricks and think that in a manga would work, i disliked that part even when Pol is my favorite character of all Jojo.
! King Crimson is quite easy: Reset time 10 seconds after Diavolo's order.
Diavolo can use it like permanently till he founds the path that is correct for him. As aside note, just like Doppio and Diavolo were different personalities, they could observe differents stuff, working like two points of view, which is why Araki give that power to them.
! I certainly think that Araki creates the power then the character, except for Dio obviously.
I'm not watching Stardust but that is so hilarious xD
As a wish for the plot:
! I would love if Araki can show in the development the ones who helped Josuke and Giorno. Who went from another dimension.
So if this guys is wham who do we think Yagiyama is? My guess is santama. If Joubin is really a stone person then he has to be AC/DC because his ability revolves around heat. So who is Kars? He had a light ability right?
How I Am a Rock ability relates to Santana, though?
All this "X is new universe's Y!" stuff never made sense and needs to stop… There may be some callbacks and cameos, you may suppose that Funny Valentine could possibly visit the Old universe, but there is where it stops. It's fun to find references to old parts, but sometimes it gets ridiculous. i recall reading on the wiki that Sasame (the first enemy in Jojolion, with the puppeteer stand that recalled, if any, Justice) was listed as Polpo's counterpart, 'cause both ate their fingers (even if polpo actually didn't). There are 2 separate JoJo storylines, and the first ended over 10 years ago, time to let it go. Irene's not going to show up.
And it's Abdul. not Avdol.

Hard to believe that a wiki could be grasping for straws at random trivia

I dunno but we didn't see much of Santana. I only made the association because they were first one we saw of each and in the end Santana becomes a broken rock person much like Yagiyama.
tbh i doubt that any of them are alt. universe versions of the pillar men (especially joubin) but it is fun to make the association and try to look for other callbacks
Prove it. It's Avdol.
Avdol is not a name. Abdul is.
since his katakana name can be romanized as both, it makes sense to go with the actual name AND musical reference. basically the same reason why it's Bruno and not Blono.
And it's Abdul. not Avdol.
It's however you want. Araki cares about romanization as much as for colorization, he goes with Joestar as much as with Joester. He uses Gyro, but used Jairo once as well. He romanized it as Avdol, but I wouldn't be surprised if, had the chance again, he would chose to romanize the name as Abdul (or a third option).
Remember it is a japanese comic with a different alphabet. For Araki, the way the names are portrayed in our foreign characters is probably as much of a curious stylistic choice as the colors he uses for hair, clothes and eyes (and he is willing to change them at any time he sees fit), not something relevant that is set on stone.
His katakana name can't be romanized to Abdul. It has a kana that indicates a distinct "v" sound. It's "Avoduru" not "Abuduru". アヴドゥル
Many characters don't have actual real-world names. Like Straizo, the pillarmen, Rudol von Stroheim, Dio Brando, Vanilla Ice, Gray Fly, Mannish Boy, ZZ, Rubber Soul, Cameo, Oingo, Boingo… Like half the cast or more has either a first name or last name that's not a regular name/word.
This has also been written in many official things. It's pronounced distinctly different from the Arab name Abdul.
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's name is spelled カリーム・アブドゥル=ジャバー. It's different.

It changes depending on however I feel like spelling it on any particular day. As long as people know who I'm talking about, I don't care if it's Abdul, Avdol, Abdol, Advol, whatever, it works for me.
And just because I can (and because the board it active it'll be nice to get some feedback) Here's a very long list about my favorite Jojo villains.
Two things; I’m going to leave Part 8 out of the list; considering we don’t even know who the final villain is and this list is reserved for the “final/main villain”.
! 7. Kars
! The problem with Kars is quite simple, he came as a bundle. And between the development of Wham and AC/DC, he got the short stick; feeling rather empty compared to the two other pillar men. Even going so far as paling in comparison to Wham (who had the most development and deepest connection to Joseph). And when he does become the final villain, his characterization takes almost a complete 180 from what little there was before. And that was though seeing humans as below him, he had a strange sense of respect and care for other forms of life. Causing an on coming car to crash in order to save a dog and ricocheting off of a sheer cliff-face to avoid landing on some flowers. Yet when he becomes the final bad (and eventually the “perfect life-form”(1)") he turns into a megalomaniacal maniac who isn’t shy of some genocide and full on crazy; to me it lacks really any charisma or build up to this point. He just kinda felt like an arbitrary “final boss”……he was fabulous as fuck though.
! (1): One thing of note, though it might be my own personal opinion….I can’t help but think that car’s “final form” is just kinda lame. I mean…it just felt like something out of Captain Planet. That being said though, there is also a limit to the amount of pseudo-science I can take in one sitting. Stands get a pass because they can be given a hand wave of “magic”. However, reading through pages upon pages “explaining” Kars’s powers got me to say “bullshit” almost as much as the vampires. We’ll get to them later.
! 6. Dio Brando (Phantom Blood)
! Dio burst onto the scene doing what Dio does best, being a colossal dick. Unabashedly flaunting his dickishness since day one, Dio made Jonathan’s life a living hell; isolating him from his peers, becoming “the best son” in his his “father’s” eyes, kicking his dog, burning his dog alive, tried to steal his girl, and more. However where Dio falls flat is that he simply just doesn’t have the charisma or crazy to make him enjoyable to read beyond his hilarious asshole antics. And with the length of Phantom Blood, after he becomes a vampire he almost becomes a little boring and the plot rams Jonathan right into him.
! (2): As mentioned before, I have a bit of a problem with the vampires of JJBA. Don’t get me wrong, vampires are cool, intimidating, and threatening. However when Dio seemingly pulls super powers out of his ass like he’s superman from the silver age, I find it a it annoying, and even more so when it tries to “explain” it to me. At least with “the ultimate life-form”, it was bigged up to be an unstoppable and HAX as all hell.
! 5. Diavolo
! There are things that Diavolo gets really right…and there are things he outright sucks at. The things he gets right are his craziness (interactions with Doppio/ personal tics) his build up (we’re told about him from the beginning) and his power. Which the latter, though incredibly confusing at first, and even I’m still a little shaky on exactly how it works, can be eventually understood; and once you do understand it, you can see why Diavolo has full reason to be a megalomaniac arrogant son of a bitch. He’s basically invincible (3).
! All of these make him a joy to watch at times, especially with Doppio, and make him to be a massive challenge.
However, here Diavolo fails at is his utter lack of any real charisma, and sense of character outside his rampant paranoia. In addition with one of the most confusing, nonsensical, weird, and unhelpful backstories ever. Though the more I think about it, the more I begin to ask if that was intentional; as if Diavolo insane as he is, can’t remember how his own past played out. And each possible interpretation only leads to more paranoia.
(3): But that’s for another time.
! 4. DIO (Stardust Crusaders)
! This is where the DIO we all know and love comes from, this is the DIO we all remember and for good reason, he’s back and better than ever. This time around, DIO has gotten a full charisma upgrade and crazy boost. He’s still the same DIO, dickishness and all; but this time around it’s amplified by his enhanced charisma, super-inflated ego and newly found antics due to this.
DIO is essentially an evil manchild who goes on giddy fits because of how much he can kick your ass and then drops a fucking steamroller on you and proceeds to punch the shit out of it; it it glorious.
And kick your ass he can, with THE WORLD at the time being the most powerful stand seen thus far in JJBA. (In my opinion, as of now several stands could beat THE WORLD in a one on one fight….Don’t quite know why Akari still refers to it as “the ultimate stand”)
! Ok, from here on out like my protags the top 3 is incredibly close, so I’d like for you to take that into consideration.
! 3. Pucci
! I’ll admit, Pucci took a little while to grow on me. I found him to be a little quiet and not as immediately engaging as the other villains.
However, that was soon to be corrected; as once the ball got rolling. It picked up fast. Wildly determined and equally devout to his goal, Pucci will go to any lengths to achieve them no matter how many Joestars stand in his way; with plenty of zany quirks that illustrate a man who tries to keep his composure and sense of order but willing to lay the smackdown when needed.
It does call to point out that Pucci is doing what he does because he believes it to be right; attaining “heaven” by every human being born knowing of all that will happen in their futures, but being unable to change it. Accepting “fate”
Not to ignore his tremendously well done backstory, that puts him in a very sympathetic light; making him the man who he grew up to be.
! 2. Funny Valentine
! Funny Valentine is the president of the United States, and he sees it has his duty above all others to see to it that he keeps his country safe. And it doesn’t matter how many bodies he has to step over to get it.
! Serious, but not without his bizarre quirks, and usually calm in any situation, Funny is a man so decisive that once he sets a plan into motion he will see it to it’s end; and determined enough to do so by willingly “dying” over and over again. And seeing himself as the only man capable and worthy of that task.
He’s a joy to watch, and intense to follow. Funny balances entertaining, and intellectual.
! It really is strange to see, but while unquestionably showing shades of sociopathy; Funny is honestly doing the things that he does because he believes so deeply in the virtues of “patriotism” that he sees it as a necessary element to who he is. And honestly shows a great deal of reasoning in his final talk with Jonny; almost making Jonny’s reasons for wanting the corpse seem selfish in comparison.
! And a man of his word, holding promises that he made to others, in order to preserve their agreement. Only turning them down in the most extreme possible situations in which his core values are at stake, as Jonny found out.
! 1. Kira Motherfucking Yoshikage
! A true testament to his presence, is that Kira doesn’t show up about until just before the middle of Part IV, and right from the get go he is fantastic.
! Unlike all the other villains here, Kira has no extravagant plans, no global domination, no serving countries, no moral crusades, none of that. Instead, all Kira wants is simply to live his quiet peaceful life free from worry and commotion, and keep up with his one small hobby. Murdering women for their hands and keeping them as his “girlfriends”.
! A perfect balance of madness and order; Kira lives his life with a constant strive for total placidity and a near hilarious level of OCD no matter what the situation, intertwined with the mullings and impulses of a lunatic. Committing straight up murders with nothing more than a seeming indifference and raised tone.
However when this special way of life for him becomes threatened, Kira not under any circumstances would let it slip away, with a sharp calculating wit, unpredictable tenacity and a lifetime expertise in laying low Kira will pull out all and any stops to assure that his way of life can continue undisturbed.
! Kira still is human though he has emotions, when the time is right, the arrogance flows like a fine wine. When he gets pissed, he gets FUCKING PISSED. It keeps him fun to watch and sometimes strangely relatable.
I romanize it as Abdul because

Kira and Funny are decidedly the top2. Nowadays I believe I like Funny a bit more, but maybe it's just my overall love for SBR speaking.
Regarding Dio, I actually think his PB version is WAY more charismatic than SC. Revisiting SC in the new anime, I am enjoying a lot of things I used to hate, though, so maybe that will change.
And Pucci… he never grew on me. Weird... of all the villains, he fits best the kind of character I use to love, but I just can't like this guy.
No matter in what year or universe, Dio is always number one.
Also, wasn't there also a Stroheim is Steel Ball Run?

He was one of those random European terrorists who were after Jesus.
I don't think he got any dialogue.

Maybe because all in all, he is just another Vanilla Ice.

Yeah, he was one of the most random SBR-verse references to the earlier parts that I remember seeing.
Seriously. A cyborg goes absolutely unexplained…well, it is Akari we're talking about here though. The king of dropped threads and plotlines. Not that he doesn't make up for it though.
To be honest, I've been thinking about this for a while actually. Araki and Oda are my two favorite mangakas and often I find similarities between the two; however I do think that they're polar opposites on at least one area. Planning.
Oda is the kinda guy who'll remember what shirt someone was wearing 500 chapters ago when he reintroduces them to the story; that and almost all of his plot points connect, make sense, and add expand the scope of the story exponentially. It's actually an incredible feat, or at least I think so.
As for Araki….well, most of the time it's minor details (polneraff describing his sister's killer), sometimes it's abandoned plotlines (The reason why Josuke wears his air in a pompadour), but once and a while you run across a gaping hole (the arrow/requiem deal). But regardless he pulls through.
Anyone else notice this or agree?
@Cyan:
I romanize it as Abdul because
We're pretty sure Avdol is referencing after Paula Abdul, but the argument that "It has to be spelled the same way as the reference" doesn't work.
If it did, then Jonathan Joestar would have been trained by Will A. Led Zeppelin, in Part 3 they would have fought against Full Force with his Stand By Me Emperor, and we'd also be also watching One Piece with l'Olonnais Zorro.
Avdol is Avdol. Plain and simple. People can choose to be wrong if they want, but that doesn't make them not wrong.
"Abdul" is spelled "アブドゥル" in Japanese.
Araki INTENTIONALLY spelled Avdol's name "アヴドゥル"
Author's Intent trumps all.

Jesus christ you care to much about things like this.
ouch, i got kewl'd :ninja:
well, guess i choose to be wrong. i can take all the bizarreness Araki may throw at me with a big smile on my face, but nonsensical names really irk me for some reason. i really thought it simply originated with the arcade name, which also spelt "Mahrahia" and "Iced".
oh well.
let's see if i can redeem myself. Talking about Oda and Araki and similarities (i wasn't hanging around here back then and i don't know if someone already noticed, but still):
The main charachter ends up in a big prison. Needs to hurry, cause a close relative is running out of time and going to face certain death. MC is luckyly helped by a misterious charachter named Emporio, who lives in a secret room inside the prison, unbeknownst to the guards, with, among other people, a guy who the second time he appears has a different sex than the first. With the help of this bizarre people and some other convicts, MC succesfully jailbrakes and head towards an epic battle, with a tragic outcome… which manga am i talking about?
@Cyan:

Not really, I just took Kewl's lead and expanded on it.

Authors are allowed to make up names tho. Most of the song references and goofy names in Jojo are also completely made up out of thin air names that aren't real names you'd give to a person, but they're only ok because the "Nonsensical Name" was made by someone who is not Araki.
Oingo
Boingo
Hol Horse (Reference from "Full Force" that Araki slightly changed, just like Avdol)
Chakka
These names are all nonsense and if you found out someone named their child that, you'd think something was wrong with them, but these are apparently ok, while Avdol isn't?
Speaking about charisma, which is quite personal matter. Dio is the only villain that has it to me. Mostly in the first part he proved to be born evil, which was portrayed regular to fine by Araki. Stardust Crusaders was a different guy who proved us that he can be that bad but looked indifferent, near nonchalant and indeed cool. Which only the last part of those characteristics was used in the battle thanks to his intelligence. Later the main idea of his blood running through ages and dimensions helped Diego to be a constant pursuer of glory thanks to the argument's theme.
These three aspects of DIO are what makes surpass the plain resources of how to show a character, which goes along with the different tendencies of what's popular, a very influenced trend in Araki's magnus opus. In conclusion, when i see DIO, i see all this things that he have done, he got my approvation after this.
Anyways, in my Jojo's charisma ranking, Joseph kick ass. All the other villains aren't even on it.

Kira has no charisma? Go home, you're drunk.
Got the English phantom blood in all it's hardback glory
Also, from what I've researched recently, Gwess, Versus, and Magent Magent are also correct. They're spelled differently from the Japanese names of the products (Versus is a weird case because his name is a line of Versace products, or something? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Versus_(Versace) ヴェルサス).
Ermes seems to be a literal pronunciation of the brand name Hermes (Which is French; the H is not pronounced). This may be a thing similar to Kars where he spelled the name differently officially even though it's pronounced the same.
Magent Magent ends in "to" not "ta" like the Soul'd Out song. マジェント・マジェント VS マジェンタ マジェンタ.
Gwess uses the super-unusually spelling グェス rather than the brand Guess written as ゲス. The small ェ (e) after the グ (gu) indicates it's pronounced like the name "Manguel" apparently (Like this guy: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alberto_Manguel ). It's a sound rarely used, but it is different.
Similarly, the name for Anasui is like that in Jojoveller, but "Annasui" is how the scanlations did it. They removed an N for the official version despite the names being spelled the same in Japanese.
As for Bruno Buchiarati, I still have no idea. His name's pronounced "Bucharatii" in Japanese so I think I prefer that spelling rather than "Buccellati".
For tons more of this, the wikia explains some (but not all) of the reasoning behind the official romanizations.

- Filthy Acts, at a Reasonable Price: The name used for Funny Valentine's GHA in the English localization of All Star Battle.**
You kiddin' right?
The English localization of ASB has a lot of jokes about Dirty Deeds Done Dirty Cheap (the Stand is actually called D4C in-game).
Not as bad as Zipper Man and Lil Bomber.
I am actually torn between it being awful or amazing.
Changing Polnareff's name to Jean Pierre Eiffel is inspired.
Yay, Jojo friday tomorrow! Can't wait to see chibi Polpol. Why can't these things happen to Jotaro? God, that would have been hilarious.

Some of those are great and some are really random (like the first dio one)
Another amazing episode, Alessi's VA is perfect, too
Well, we've finally arrived at the worst fight in the entire series. Supported by Alessi, the worst character in the entire series.
Much as I love Jojo, I will forever hate this fight.

! Because of fetus and poop?
At least there is Chibi Jotaro.
! Because of fetus and poop?
! There is that. And the other distasteful body humor. And Alessi being the most viscerally disgusting and pathetic human being In the entire series, to the point where he is actually unpleasant to watch at times. And the just generally low amount of good moments or strategy. And probably one or two other things I'm forgetting, I am not watching that fight again.

I honestly can say I have no recollection of that character or fight. Now I'm worried lol.
Hey guys, I need a super Jojo nerd to help me with with my collection. I have many of the Medicos figures and just bought the WF2013 10 piece Onomatopoeia set. Problem is, I have no idea which one goes with which character as I don't know Japanese!
!
These are the details I can find: 10
Anyone out there think they can help?
2 more weeks until D'arby. I can't wait. And yeah Alessi has no likeable qualities whatsoever. He's terrible.

Nope, D'Arby, then Hol Horse and Pet Shop.
