It is confusing, tons of things suggest Luffy's powers are always active, but then others say they're not. For example, if he was always rubber…then a punch from him wouldn't hurt as bad as they apparently do as his knuckles would be rubber. Yet his arm can stretch and issue the punch without affecting the actual fist.

No it isn't confusing, you're just splitting hairs about a matter that really doesn't need to be explained to you.

Luffy is a strong as hell rubberman, that's it. Bringing up whether his knuckles of all things are rubber isn't going tom magically change what type of Devil Fruit he ate. It's a paramecia, close this thread.

Do some of you need every little thing explained? Jesus….no wonder this section has gone to hell.

When I first saw this topic, I was wondering why in the living, breathing hell anyone would have any doubts that Luffy's power is a paramecia. Especially this late in the series. This has been conclusively settled before.

Parmecia kinds are multi-purpose. They can do everything, technically. They can become. They can create. They can manipulate. They usually just cant do all of this at the same time. Luffy is just rubber. He is always like this, all parmecias are not always like this. Absalom can turn his ability on and off. He can also make other people become part of his ability.

Parmecia's range is pretty much limitless in terms of variety. Everybody just cant do all of those things at once.

But… Luffy is stupid. Whenever the crew explains something simple to him he ends up saying "Ooooh I see, its a mystery ". (Luffy has a few brainstorms every once in a while but overall he is pretty dense.)

Zoans simply turn into and control their animal forms.
Paramecia A becomes a certain substance and gains all the properties related to it.

Paramecia B gains and manipulates a specific trait.

Logias gain power over occurrences in nature. They're able to produce, control, and become their elements.

The categorization of DF's are arbitrary, and there are certainly blurs in catagorization.

Actaully, it will hurt more then you think.

People think water is no problem to land in, but fall face first onto still water - its like falling onto cement. People have been known to drown from being knocked out after hitting water. In sort if your getting hit but rubber, its gonna hurt, much worst then you think.

I've been hit by more rubber objects then I'd desire, so far I've come off it with nothing but a large blue and black bruise. Mostly… I've been hit by rubber gloves and rubbers (art), but I got hit by a chuck of rubber used for models. Hence where I got that lovely bruise from. If you don't believe me rubber can hurt, ask a friend to fire a rubber band 1 inch away from your face (not recommended for saftey reason I point out). Rubber isn't a razor blade, it won't make you bleed, but with enough force it can break bones and possbly do a lot more damage in one whack then a blade can.

Plus, people who think their not going to be hurt by something tend to relax their body. :wassat:

If your power is a total overkill to 99% of the population even though you're a total weakling without it, then its a Logia :D. Besides, all Logia have this cool dissolving into a non-solid state effect when they get used.

I'd like to note that a Logia is the Essence of an element. It isn't actually the element.

So technically this theory makes a lot of sense. Ice is a logia, yet it is solid. But then again Luffy can't manipulate rubber…

I think that Luffy is a paramecia, however he's just honed his ability to perfection. I believe utilising a paramecia fruit to its full potential gives him likenesses and an equal footing to Logia-types, but he's still a Paramecia by definition.
