Okay, apparently(according to several comic book stores) Viz is refusing to send shipments of One Piece over to the UK. This means that we now have to order One Piece(and any other Viz comic) from America. This means we're gonna probably have to pay a lot lot more for our graphic novels. <_< yay, Great Britain gets royally screwed over again.

Ow. x.o Talking about kicking me in the crotch with spiked golf shoes while I'm down.
Now unless I'm the only brit, someone comment at the matter in hand. or at hand. Possibly both hands.
But hey, Cap'n, nice for someone to make a nice comment about the UK for once. Normally we get fried on message boards.
-
Damn, that sucks ass. Viz is crazy.
-
At least you can go to MSN to read it (just a suggestion).
-
Does not UK has it's own manga compeny to translate?
-
I'm afraid it does not. We basically get your versions of everything, but have to wait thrice as long. PAL versions of games are the worst, since we have to wait until the bloody games been translated into french, italian and spanish before we(and the Australians) get it. I feel this may be the same case for the poor guys down under too then.
MSN? Hmm…maybe...
-
MSN is very helpful (read the Arlong Arc in one day!). Free too :D .
-
…. I don't see the problem....
Viz sucks ass.... Just by the REAL THING cough_tankoubon_cough . ANd illegally download the scanlations!
It's what I do! ^_^
-
Im in th Uk and ive heard nothing of this, but that probaly because i pay little attention. I'll be allright as the shops i buy from get U.S. Imports all the time :D

Well, my family comes from Britain, so it wouldn't be right to bash my own blood.

i wouldn't really recommend the MSN scans. some of them are a bit mistranslated, and can be misleading. i'd use that as a last resort.
i haven't read any of the Viz releases, but the fact that they changed Zoro to Zolo after 4kids did this, gives me the impression that they may change other stuff as well. <_<
-
The early chapters on MSN are a little wierd, but the later ones seem fine.
-
Is it just Britain or does this effect Australia too? Well anyway, I say if you really want the Viz versions you should start a petition or something. Otherwise doesn't this mean it's legal to get the scanslations now?
-
/me mumbles: Scanlation is illegal even if the title is not licensed in your country.
-
I had a feeling about that… Maybe get a petition for someone else to release to it! It could be cheaper to buy than Viz's version and could be quicker too!
-
Actually this may have been going on for a while. I used to get DB from a local comic book shop until around the start of 2003 when Shonen Jump was released. The owner said he was unable to get the books anymore. However when I browsed on Amazon.co.uk I was able to buy them and been using them since, and seeing as how you can pre-order OP#7 on it (last time I checked) it looks like they'll be able to get it.
For the record, a British company has recently obtained the rights tio publish some Viz series in the UK. DB and Yu-Gi-Oh are on the cards, and by the end of the year the first 10 books should be out (even though I have all the DB books). Whether or not they'll also import One Piece has yet to be seen, but as long as I can get them from Amazon.co.uk I don't mind.
As for scanlations and the tankoubon, well it is tempting. Maybe in the future.

This is a good thing. It means we'll be spared the early-teenage idiots going on about Zolo. I'd rather have a select few sensible fans around here… or stick to the internet failing that.
Raws plus Stephen's translations would do nicely... or a quick trip to Hong Kong.
-
Damn.
Well, I don't particularly agree, you see, it was 'cause of viz I was introduced to One Piece, and I (if I say so myself) ain't some idiot who runs round blurting Zolo. Yeah, they ain't the best, but they certainly could introduce some late bloomers into the world or One Piece.
As a brit, this is shite really, but I suppose I buy the viz off amazon and the Japanese anyways… Still, MSN ain't the answer for potential fans, is it?
Gawd that's annoying, what the heck's the point? :\

**Actually, you'll still have it due to the anime being shown here. And that's worse, because it means that the kids will start talking about rubber knives and poison suction cups. So…looks like you're screwed after all. :P
-
maybe they decided not to ship one piece because, theres no enough of us to buy it, not enough japanese to say its good and the fox box just ruined theyre chances of anyone giving it a try.
i mean serously everyone's like "you whatch this ?" no i read it as a comic, but its too late.
yeh - amazon.co.uk it is then
-
What? Argh.
Borders still has One Piece, and occasionally Virgin Megastore do imports of Viz Shonen Jump. I think.
I live in London so I buy Japanese OP, but it's just… irritating. I was getting my friends into OP because they heard me talk about OP and picked up the Viz versions.
Well, at least there's Amazon.co.uk.

As for One Piece, I thought it was dodgy that Borders wasn't selling it. They have all the stuff like Naruto, Dragonball and so forth from the SJ market, but no One Piece.
Look on the bright side, if it does take off, we'll get some crazy crap like.. I dunno', Advent Calendars for Christmas!
It's a picture of Luffy's face, then you open it, and there's a chocolate fairy! Priceless, and with no relation to One Piece at all!
-
Virgin sells Op - how could i miss that?
its in japanesse though, right? you said imports
Hey at least the weather nice til saturday. lol
-
American Shonen Jump in Virgin, sometimes, and not the volumes :( They mainly sell Battle Royale. I was just looking for some magazines and found SJ in a bag saying "Import from America". But it's the American one, not the Japanese one.

My Borders still sell it, but maybe they're just not getting any more in.

**I have never, ever seen One Piece in my nearest Borders.
Perhaps my nearest Borders just sucks, besides… hm.
