Rogues work very well as CC, especially since all Rogues know have Improved Sap. Granted, it only works against Humanoids, but most of the Burning Crusade instances have Humanoids.
World of Warcraft (+Burning Crusade)
-
-
It also only works on one at a time…no undead targets either. Sheeping, shackeling and some traps are usually more effective. It's inice when you've got a variety, of course.
I notice a lot of people forget to utilize rogue's stealth ability when turning blind corners in instances and just send someone else to charge out instead.
We blew a generally really great run by a priest decided to run out in the lead :P BAD IDEAAlso, do not let hunters tell you their pet makes an adequate tank for an instance :P Pets have no real brains.
-
I am a Human Fire Mage named Pyrgus(NOT Pyrus. It's a reference to a book).
I have a crapload of other details, but I never say them because I am not into roleplaying and this game doesn't have last names.
But technically speaking, his name is Pyrgus D Twikim. I came up wih it because SWG has a slot for a last name and the D was influenced by One Piece.
-
I always have to laugh at the ubiquitous night elf hunter always trying to single handedly attack a smaller horde outpost.
I noticed something while still playing. if the hunter is nightelf finish whatever it was you were doing first, even if it sitting and drinking. Then go for his pet or something, taunt him. do a little dance. shapeshift into ghostwolf and run circles around him etc etcf. If its a Dwarf hope to god you can break his kiting and watch out for the traps on the ground.
Moral of the story: Nightelves cant play hunters. What level/spec was the rogue? I find it hard to be killed right now because if I'm in trouble I have the option of first evade to avoid taking hits, vanish if there's no way out, sprinting away if I have dot on me, or blinding everyone with flash powder. Or just drinking a healing potion. I get frustrated going back to the warrior sometimes because if I'm in trouble there isn't much I can do except try to hamstring as many as possible and warstomp or intimidating shout, which doesn't always work.
Haha i forgot to tell that eh? Well his rogue was lvl 60 (pre expansion) with some kind of pvp specc. had epics from MC and Onyxia.
I think i usually used the opener that gave you bonus damage to next special hit whatever its called and only used stunn when the mage was on the roof of goldmine or otherwise couldnt blink away from me….
I found the class relativly booring as it felt like there was no skill at all in killing things with it.Gear2: lvl? pvp or pve realm?

But you can never tell. Probably not a bad idea to inspect their gear first.
One time in Warsong gulch I single-handedly killed a dwarf hunter and his pet (as a rogue). Yet another time, I snuck up on a hunter guarding the flag with another rogue. He didn't even notice me dealing damage on him from behind (or else didn't care) and was completely focused on the other rogue, but he still managed to kill him and then turn around and pwn me too. He probably was all blue complete with armour kits and enchants.
Also Beware of any low level character with titles like Senior Sergent :PHaha i forgot to tell that eh? Well his rogue was lvl 60 (pre expansion) with some kind of pvp specc. had epics from MC and Onyxia.

I couldn't stand being a priest. I like healing people but surviving in combat is aggrivating and monotonous. I guess you probably need to go shadow until later in the game or something. But you really need to start a class out from the beginning to really get a good feel for them and appreciate all the training and practice put in from the beginning. I would hate to just jump into a high level toon without having gotten there myself.
Which is why I don't understand stuff like "leveling services" and buying characters off ebay. What's the fun in that?
I actually had some jerk on the bg tell me to go buy a character off ebay in order to be more useful on the bg. Screw that, how ridiculous. Some people take this game way too seriously. Buy 500 gold for $200! Pffft. -
If that's what somebody wants to spend their money on, it shouldn't be a problem.
After you level one or two characters to 70, one really has no desire to ever do it again. It's easiest to just shell out $$$, if you want it that badly and don't mind payin' for it.
-
@Cyringohn:
If that's what somebody wants to spend their money on, it shouldn't be a problem.
Only if by spending that money, they aren't neglecting paying for something more important. But a lot of times people are such addicts that they are paying for loads of stuff that they really can't afford. If I ever paid hundreds of dollars for a character or for WoW gold I give permission for someone to kick me in the head, cancel my account and keep watch over my funds until I come to my senses.

Eh, lots of people in my guild have multiple level 70's and nobody pays for it. My bf's already working a second and third up there. If you just want to play level 70, why do you even need multiple toons?. I honestly can't see paying for it anything but asinine and boring, but to each their own. :P There's a reason why I have so many…it's a lot of fun for me to start fresh. And I can't be proud of a character that I cheated to get it to where it's at.
-
If I ever got that desperate that I'd ignore my own needs to live like shelter, food, and friends, so I can have a decked out fire mage in Tier 6 in a top raiding guild, I hope someone kicks me in the balls and takes my Computer until I come to my senses.
A game is meant to be played. Cheat codes that take you to the last level or buying your way to the top, there's no fun in that. If you want to get to play on a fair palying ground against people in a PvP environment, go out and buy an FPS on the Xbox 360. I can think of 3(or 4) games off the top of my head that have everyone in a fair environment, and 2 of them allow you to choose either race or class and various other options.
Instead of paying $250 for some gold and a level 70 in tier 6 so i can own in BGs to raid, along with the monthly subscription, and risk getting banned, I'd rather pay 50-60 dollars for Halo 2, Halo 3, Call of Juarez, or Shadowrun.
-

You can't "cheat" in an MMO. Guild Wars actively supports gold purchasing and power leveling. All that matters is that the data on your server recognizes that a specific character is Level 70. How you got there and who helped you do it shouldn't matter.
And there's still nothing wrong with spending $200 on a game. It's no different than paying a $50 cell phone bill for 4 months, especially if all you do is chat with your friends for fun. You're paying your own money, an amount that no man has the right to force to spend in a certain manner, to do something you enjoy.
Gohn would never do it, personally, but it's ridiculous to bash people for it.
-
Think the reason character buysers are so disliked in Wow is because they cant play. atleast before the expansion most people could get away with it because the role in a raid was so small that you could rely on others.
people that leveled their own characters still have problems fully knowing their class. haveing to play with people that doesnt know anything at all is even more annoying.
-
Some people that purchase character actually can play, though. Many people will buy a tanking or healing character from Ebay or the like, then simply get a guild member to teach them how to tank and heal properly. Most people that actually level a tank or healer to 70 still ask a guild member to help teach them how to do it properly, so there isn't really a difference.
-
theres a difference in the sense that the one that played their character has patience and knows about more group roles then his own.
iv seen my share of ebayers stateing things that is just plain ignorant. sure theres levlers like that too but in comparisment the ebayers (atleast on my former server) tended to be idiots more often then not while the reverse was true about levlers.
(with e-bayers im talking about people that bought their first character and never leveled anything)
-
I'm thinking about getting into this because a friend of mine is trying to get me into it. I always figured that if I played, I'd be a troll, so that's definite. I was always a bit wary about class, but I narrowed it down to hunter or rogue.
Reading a bit more into it, rogues seem to be a little bit complicated to play, and hopeless defensively. I'm all about offense and direct attacking, but I don't want to give up defense for it. I'm also more of a solo player, and hunter seems more ideal for that.
So I'm thinking a troll hunter. Thoughts?
-
You should avoid playing a rogue like the plague imo =P grouping up for instances (thats where you get the good gear which more or less is very important) will be horrible as there are 10 rogues on every warrior or healer.
-
Not that grouping as a hunter is any better :)
But as a soloer we can't be topped and being a hunter is fun. Plus were a easy class to learn so a great way to get into the game.
-
I could NOT get a group for Gnomer without multiple hunter requests. It's a nearly impossible instance, and you need the right group. Even then, nobody can really clear everything in one run.
Carter, may I recommend the Mage class? It's the classic "Glass Cannon" class, but unless you have a slow computer and a rogue sneaks up to you, you have pretty much as fair a fight as everyone else. There's not really "defense", the mage's defense is based on the saying "a good offense is a good defense".
Fire mages are more DPS. A good Offense is a good Defense
Frost mages are less DPS, more survival. A good offense is a good defense.
Arcane…I used to be arcane. It kinda sucked. They fixed it but I've never gone back since I went fire.
I'd recommend a frost mage troll carter.
unless you want to tank.
But rogues and priests are definitely not for you.
-
Sorry, I have a non-mage policy.
The only mage class I'd consider is shaman.
-

No, run away before it's too late!
I always figured that if I played, I'd be a troll, so that's definite. I was always a bit wary about class, but I narrowed it down to hunter or rogue.
Trolls are awesome, I kind of want to start one myself but I decided I really need to get my other toons higher first.
Hunters are good for soloing because you've got basically a side-kick to fight beside you, and you can send your pet out to atack stuff and just shoot them from a distance, not to mention set up traps. Getting caught off guard can suck though, and hunters only wear leather armour (do they get mail after 40? I forget). Keep in mind you have to feed your pet to keep it content and at full fighting ability, and spend money training it as well.Reading a bit more into it, rogues seem to be a little bit complicated to play, and hopeless defensively. I'm all about offense and direct attacking, but I don't want to give up defense for it. I'm also more of a solo player, and hunter seems more ideal for that.
Hunters are the soloing favorite, but rogues aren't defenseless. If you spec Combat, you have access to all kinds of defensive bonuses, not to mention rogues are the best at escaping in a pinch. Having played both a rogue and hunter, I'll take the rogue. But that's just me, I have always had an affinity for rogues so I just immediately enjoyed it. Rogues aren't so overused on a PVE realm as a PVP realm. I'm one of the only rogues in my guild so I'm not really in much competition.
Of course…you can always create more than one toon and play them for a while and see for yourself which one you enjoy the most. You level very fast from level 1-20.

Not to help promote a self-made topic, but seriously go check out the Warhammer Online thread before playing World of Warcraft. WoW is a fun game, especially with other people, but it becomes so tedious. It literally does consume most of your daily time, because that's how much time it takes to do everything you need to do for your character.
Warhammer looked at World of Warcraft, tweaked everything that was wrong with that game, and spawned a PVP birth-child from it.
If you really are adamant about playing WoW, though, you're spot on for the combination you want. Hunters are excellent on the offensive, yet the fact that they're ranged and have traps makes them excellent on the defensive, as well. Hunters are also, arguably, the easiest class to solo in PVE, due to your pet tanking while you attack, as well as things like Feign Death to get you out of tough spots.
But yeah, you really don't want to be a Rogue. You'll basically never find anybody to group with, as there are about 80 billion Rogues on any given server. Unfortunately, Hunters are becoming about as commonplace as Rogues are, so you're probably going to have trouble with that too.
If you'd like to know more about Hunters and the options you'll have, feel free to ask.
-
Warhammer Online is more like the best of WoW smashed together with the best of DAoC
and Hunters are kinda…....bleh never much liked them
-
This is a continuation of the previous post:
However, the best gear in World of Warcraft must be obtained with a guild. It has to be. WoW is a solo able game up until Level 70, but after that, it's not. You cannot get the good 70 gear alone, as they're find in 10-25 person raids. Raids that you'll be doing so often that it makes you want to rake out your own eyes. Each instance takes about 3-4 hours to complete, and only one or two of the eight or nine bosses drops any Tier gear. Moreover, that boss only drops one type of gear and it's random for which class the gear will be for. For example, The Curator in Karazhan drops Tier 4 Glove tokens. That's all he drops is Glove tokens. No other slots. Just Gloves. So, basically, when you down The Curator, you just have to hope he drops Hunter Glove tokens, since it's random which class it's for. Moreover, you're going to have to roll against any other Hunters in your group to see who gets the Tier 4 Gloves [and Warlocks and Mages, since each type of Tier 4 token is split up between 3 classes]. Can you see how monotonous this is getting? The Tier pieces are spread out in dungeons, so you literally have to farm all the dungeons to even hope of getting this armor. Unless you're the luckiest son of a bitch in existence, it'll take months to even get a Tier set, and that's if your guild is running each instance 3-4 times a week on a set schedule.
How do you get the best gear in Warhammer? Do a few quests while you're attacking [or have overtaken] the enemy's capital city during frequent PVP events. That's it.
Tedious things like that is why many WoW players are switching trains to Warhammer, once it's released.
Uldaman is where the real shit storm hits shivers
Uldaman is just a piece of shit. Nothing good drops there, you no longer need to go there to see the Master Enchanter, and it's pretty damn hard for that level.
-
Well, pretty much every MMO eats up a lot of time. For the past few months I've played FFXI on and off. I just don't have that much time for it or any other game right now because I'm working a full-time job. If I play WoW it wouldn't be right now.
Warhammer looks pretty cool, but like I said, I'm interested in WoW because I know people playing it. If I do feel like getting it, I think I'm going to start off as a Troll Hunter.
-
It's always nice to see Troll players. Horde is cluttered with Undead Rogues and… well, Undead everything.
-
I just saw some WOW videos n youtube and am wondering if female characters can be pirates also
-

There aren't pirates in World of Warcraft, aside from NPCs.
-
@Cyringohn:

ahh,so the undead pirate I saw was a NPC.. boo.
Still want this game just not sure if the price is worth it
-
The game itself isn't expensive…but paying monthly is a pain. I'm on friends and family account so it's a little better :P
Yay for more trolls, they're underused. I love how they talk.
Horde isn't cluttered with Undead though, it's cluttered with Blood Elves now. But not nearly as much as the Alliance is with Humans and Night Elves. -
I knew that'd happen as soon as they announced the expansion.
I also knew that no one would ever want to play as those ass-ugly, lame Draenei. I wish they used the "mutant" Draenei from War III: there's still the ugly, but at least they don't look like…. I don't know, like they jumped out of a PG-rated CGI sci-fi movie or something.
-
Draenei look pretty neat. The tentacle beards and hooves are nice.
Blood Elves are moronic. The Horde didn't need a "pretty race", goddamnit. It was happy being a coalition of ugly fuckers.
-
Haha…there is a lot of Draenei out there though. I think the females look cool but the males look goofy. Taurens are still my favorite.
I like the Blood Elves being in the Horde though. There's something amusing about pretty little elves mixing in with the ugly monsters. -
I like how the alliance pretty much has two "made-up" races for the franchise.
Tauren are indeed awesome. I'd try a Tauren Druid if I were inclined to getting the game.
-
Taurens are okay. Not a fan of how nature-loving they are, though. Giant cows are pretty pimp, though.
AND THEIR STARTING AREA SUCKS SO BADLY.
-
I love the Tauren starting area. I hated the Draenei and the Night Elf starting area. I hated all the quests too. Guess that's why I stick with Horde. Though I might try a Dwarf some day.
-
Durator and Ghostlands are the two best starting areas. Trisfal Glades and <insert tauren="" area="" name="">can fuck themselves.</insert>
-
You hated draenei starting area? Sure bloodmyst is very Red, but it has some of the funnest quest I ever played.
I always liked dwarves. and the starting area is fun. Dwarves have some of the best npc chatter.
Day 5: Running low on supplies. Plenty of food, but I'm almost out of ale.
-

You seem to have a hard time distinguishing the subjective and the objective. XD Cyringohn's world is everyone's world in his eyes. I disliked Ghostlands too. I went right out to the rest of Kalimdor.
@Capt:

Nah, couldn't get into any of them. Total drudgery. Although maybe part of the problem was playing a priest XD

No, it's just stupid and unnecessary to say "In my opinion…" and "I believe that...".
-
ah priest.
Yeah a couple good ones at the end of azuremyst. One where you run around tracking totems and getting travel buffs to help. Like for one you get increased swim speed and underwater breathing and for another you get turn into a invisble panther. Also a bit later you get to borrow a elekk.
I haven't even gotten to ghost lands with my Belf yet. On the upside it has the first chance to get non instance blues.
-

You don't have to say "I believe that" or "In my opinion". I haven't once used those terms yet I don't state opinions as if facts as you do. In fact, adding those words to crude statements makes them even more infuriating. You just say "I don't like/hate/dislike/can't get into/don't care for/think it's_____ rather than saying "it sucks" or "it's the worst/best". Good Example: "I don't like One Piece's art style. It's too cartoony for me and I prefer more standard anime style and more realism. Bad example: "One Piece's art sucks, Oda can't draw for shit." The first sentence shows the speaker's personal preferences, the second is just spewing nonsense that has no grounding in reality.

http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/quest.html?wquest=9167Yeah, I did that quest. Not an easy one, you have to go in as a group or get higher level help. It leads you to Orgrimmar and RFC.

That's fucking moronic. If somebody states "Oda can't draw for shit.", that means they don't think Oda can draw for shit. The whole "stating opinion as fact" stuff is really lame. Everything is a damn opinion.
If people expect some kind of long-winded excuse as to why a person dislikes something, they need to stop expecting shit.
-
Ghostlands was definintely a nice place to level up in, it had plenty of quests and The Traitor's Destruction was awesome. The Sin'Dorei warblade looked nice on my Paladin. ^_^

Everything is an opinion? On what planet? There's the spirit of the law and letter of the law, so to speak, it's the former you're not appearing to understand. I can't force people to have regard for other people when they speak, but it's my job to make people aware of it. The center of your own universe becomes very lonely.

I ended up with the bow for that one..the dagger would have been nice if I had completed the quest much earlier ^^;
Those damn bats in Ghostlands always bugged me, seemed like no matter how many levels higher I was they would always aggro and make me stop and kill them if I was in a hurry. -

Facts are just widely agreed-upon opinions. If you want to get into philosophical nonsense, solipsism pretty much negates the idea of 'facts'.
It's got nothing to do with being self-centered, and everything to do with not wanting to say unnecessary shit, just to appease people that expect manners and civility. The most unmannered person in existence could also be the wisest and kindest. Focusing on how an individual states something, instead of what the fuck they just said, is nuts.
"One Piece is boring." is the exact same thing as "I think One Piece is boring because there are large gaps between the epic fights.", just without all the fluff. Either way, One Piece is boring to that person.
And there sure as fuck is no "Spirit of the Law" that forces people to babble fluff, that's for sure.

backs out of the thread
-
Oh, so you're a solipsist…well, that explains a lot.
It's ok Gorlom, you can come back, I won't drag the silly argument out anymore.
-
Ok…so I'm just going to pretend the last page and a half never happened.
Carter: It's fine, we all have preferred classes.I ALWAYS pick the mage class. Even in games where they aren't called mages(the annoying ones, where the mages aren't called mages, and people annoy you when you call them mages)
On the Gnomer comment: It's not so much that I have issues with it. But by the time I get a group with a (not idiot) healer and a (not idiot) tank, if I can even get that, I usually(at the time) ended up with mostly requests to join from hunters, if any at all. There were way too many at the earl 30's level range, and I have no clue why. Maybe everyone just wanted to have a hunter when the expansion pack came out.
And then you have people who even though they are told, in caps, a billion times, "STAY TO THE LEFT OR YOU'LL AGGRO" it seems like someone always triggers the entire hallway to attack you. And then they either get it, or they continue to ignore the chat box.
So pretty much after the group wipes in the Dwarf hallway we just take the back entrance.
-
Wish I could help you there G2. PUGs are a hit or miss thing.
I was just trying to go to Gnomer with someone today, unfortunately we couldn't do it because we couldn't get some people transported there and we couldn't figure out how else to get everyone there (because this is Horde we're talking about). 1 more level until I can stop running around everywhere, darnit.
BTW, what mods do you use? I've just got Koordinator, Auctioneer and Gatherer.
-
I use Cartographer for my map, and whatever isn't outdated in Cosmos for the rest. My guild also has us using GEM for events, and they also want me to get the CT Raid Assist and some threat meter.
-
Cartographer kept saying it was outdated so I went with Koordinator instead. Which one is it that gives you maps of instances and where the bosses are?
I also want to set up a macro to swap out my weapon hands.
