If they were his main weapons or created by him and so powerful, why did no one ever bother to mention them in the myth retellings? Especially considering how powerful the jar is.

Gears wasn't forshadowed at all don't try to bail out Oda out. We seen everything Luffy was doing after he got defeated. Doesn't matter if it was used again. It was a asspull and even OP fans say so. Sanji was too, but Zoro was decent. He always training and Oda had a demon theme for him.
Zoro had a demon theme and therefore his ability was no asspull, but Luffy's gears, which make use of his devil fruit, are an asspull? That argument makes no sense, sorry.
The Sage was a myth just like UFOs. Kakashi doesn't believe it because he has no proof like UFO or he never seen the weapons. Why would Kakashi say he believes a myth when he clearly doesn't?
The weapons do exist and were seemingly used to kill the 2nd hokage. Why would he not know of their existance? I mean, what was so powerful about those guys if not their weapons and the tailed-beast chakra?

I wouldn't call Naruto a shitty manga. It's not even very bad. It's just bad and ridiculous. The only things that let it stay so high in my rankings are Rock Lee, Guy and Killer Bee/Golden Belt of Awesomeness.
