It still sucks when some fool comes along and goes "Dub Piece is just a crappy ripoff of the abridged series." Which God knows is wrong in so many ways…
Set Sail For Dub Piece, the New Topic!
-
-
DP actually came before the YGO:TAS if I recall correctly
-
Honestly, DW, I was worried that the topic was deleted. The question is do YOU care?
That doesn't sound passive aggressive >.>
-
DP actually came before the YGO:TAS if I recall correctly
Well I don't mean to brag but…
-
I know it came first, buddy boy. Those were one of those "wrongs" I was talking about.
-
"YGO: TAS" just caught on more because:
A. People are more familiar with "Yu-Gi-Oh" than "One Piece"
B. "Dub Piece" just happened to be a traditional fandub that was funnier than most whereas "YGO: TAS" started something new.
C. People just think it's funnier? -
I don't really ponder this guys, and it really doesn't matter to me. I mean, I'm dubbing a show that isn't even mine, it's not like it's fully my own creation.
-

Exactly, and that's all that really matters.
By the way, I know this isn't my thread, but I just wanted to mention that I finally got started working on my dub, and I just have to say it's gonna be tough recording the lines for the females parts is gonna be tough since the guy doing them isn't very funny. And for anyone else doing it, I just wanna say don't let your friends bring over weed and convince you that'll help you get into character, it doesn't help.
-
It all comes natural for us.
-
Yeah, same here, I knew drugs weren't gonna do anything but I at least wanted to be open about it. Not only did it not help but I couldn't focus and couldn't stay awake. What it comes down to is my friends were just looking for an excuse to get high.
-
Getting high to improve acting? I've seen people do it, but I've never seen it work. I knew an actor who came to a rehersal high once. Needless to say the director was furious when she fell asleep in the middle of a scene…
I suggest an improvisation class for anyone who wants to improve their comedy skill.
-
-
I took an improv class back when I was 15, it was fun but the teacher wouldn't let me do any sex jokes because she said that if you have to use sex you're just depending on shock value and that's not funny. From my experiences any subject loses shock value after a while so anything can be funny depending on how creative you are, so I have to disagree with my teacher.
And yeah, I used to get pissed off whenever someone would look at a weird piece of art and think, "They must've been high/stoned to make this." It sounded like a slap in the face to the artist's creative ability. I tell myself that if I ever become a great or professional entertainer/artist I wouldn't use drugs to get inspired. I'm not saying it doesn't help, it does sometimes, but it's like taking the easy way out and all it does is make you think and act abnormal, it doesn't inherently help your artistic ability.
-
Just out of curiosity, have you guys ever scripted a dub?
-
I never recall writing down lines for anything, though while doing some movie lines, Shiny kept fucking up, and I wrote it down on an index card. It's usually either improv, or I tell someone what to say, or tell them what to say and let them add on to it.
-
Oh, you actually direct them? I thought all lines were all of you improving out of no where.
-
No, it says in the credits he's the director.
-
Yeah, sure, let's roll with that.
Actually, a lot of lines in Dub Piece were planned before the recording. Hell, you can credit me for coming up with a lot of hilarious lines that weren't even performed by one of my characters.
-
I thought you guys were just funny on the spot. Everything I know is a lie!
-
Dub piece is a holy chalice of amazingnessingtonecity's and thats not even a word.
-
It's a word now.
-
opens websters
your right! wth!
-
See that? We're making new words out of love for your ass, so get new episodes out! Or we'll be forced to Whoopkickyabutt, which I will be the first to say isn't that great of a new word.
-
Like I said, my art comes first.
-
-
He's got ya there, Steve.
-
Not a prioritized art. Steve's got a busy lyfe, a thug lyfe, which is why he spends all of his time skateboarding and smoking weed.
-
And don't forget I like to go surfing, and and I go to parties and drink, and I dress like the lead singer of MCR. It all says that on my fake Gaia account made by non-me!
What, and dubbing isn't an art?
When I transfer to the School of Dubbing Over a Cartoon for Shits and Giggles, it'll be my top priority.
He's got ya there, Steve.
"Sorry teach, I didn't do my homework because I spent the night dubbing this cartoon with my friends. Freakin' hysterical!"
-
Screw your grades, this is more important!
-
I don't know, if he were to have excellent academic achievements, his paycheck will be good enough that this dub might actually have some good equipment and not sound like everyone is talking in the background. Or it'll keep him off the streets, which is also pretty damn good.
-
Screw the rules, I got-….Oh wait.. OH SHI-
That was a bad one. I would study art too if I wasn't so interested in studying music
-
Study art? I pretty much draw comics every week. And hey, I like keeping the laughs in. It makes you laugh at stuff you wouldn't think to, and it shows that we can't even keep a straight face sometimes.
-
The laughs are one of my favorite parts, it makes things more, "authentic".
Joking aside, I'm fine whether there is or isn't more "Dub Piece", like DW said it's just for shits and giggles, and the reason why more hasn't come out recently is pretty much what I expected. And Buuhan1, if you're really that anxious just make your own dub or something.
Speaking of art school, I thought about doing it recently but I'm still on the fence. I mean it just doesn't seem practical to spend thousands of dollars to learn how to draw, especially since I've already gotten an offer from someone in the biz. Even before I dropped out of a graphic design class I showed one of my drawings to a teacher and he said art school might not be good for what I'm trying to do.

-
This thread is now up to it's ass in nubs.
-
Darn those noobs.
-
And Buuhan1, if you're really that anxious just make your own dub or something.
I love how people take me seriously.
-
I love how people take me seriously.
No, no, no, I'm not taking you seriously, I know you're just fooling around, but honestly, it might be fun, I think everyone should try it.
-
Dub Piece is the kinda thing that anyone can make but it takes alot of time and a big group of local friends to develop a great one… which is why it had kinda disappeared...
Eh, I tried to explain to some of the Anime Abridging people on Toonzone why 'abridging' should not be the main form of parody in terms of anime. I even mentioned yours due to the fact it was something different. You can read it here if your interested: http://forums.toonzone.net/showthread.php?t=212360&page=116 from post 2317 onwards. They seemed to give a decent opinion so I won't bash them with words also it does remind me that your Death Note one needs to be on the net again, espically with its awesome ending. I've already said that I would upload but i'll respect your wishes.
But thanks again for all the good times. I miss the funny stuff you guys did
-
Dub piece was the first abridged that really just said
"you don't need a script to be funny"
and
"you don't need to copy everything LittleKuriboh does to be funny"
-
It wasn't even "abridged" really,
Nor was LittleKuriboh known, really…
-
Yep, Dub Piece came before all that. But a lot of abridged fans are too stubborn to admit it, which is… really stupid. o_O I mean, what's the big deal?
-
@Yusuke:

Urk!
@Yusuke:and

-
For shame, Urameshi. For shame.
-
hai gaize. im epic fail guy, here to follow along..
!
You all saw it coming..
-
Yusuke Urameshi, if you're gonna imply that Dub Piece copies YGO:TAS…
Didn't you even READ the Toonzone post?
-
Yes, thanks for all that promoting. :getlost:
