As for Mutt Mutt Fruit, I'm gonna go ahead and say that "Mutt" is close enough to Dog, that FUNi probably felt it wasn't worth fighting for. Remember they have to get permission from Toei to use terms other than what's on the list.
Everyone knows a "Mutt" is a dog, so my guess is they just decided to go with it rather than fight for it. Which, I don't necessarily like it, but It's such a minor gripe that I'm fine with it.

Heh, I knew Sonny being on the commentary alone was gonna make it awesome, but it's still nice to have real confirmation (can't believe he brought up Sogeking! I loved what little I heard of his Sogeking voice in UA). I didn't care much for Season 2 Fourth Voyage's commentary at all.
-
I really don't have that much of a gripe with "Mutt Mutt" either. All I'm worried about at this point is consistancy, so I can't help but wonder if they'll give Chaka's fruit "Mutt Mutt" as well, or if this was just another case of the scriptwriters and directors not being on the same page and they go with "Dog Dog".
Also, I don't think they could've found a better Mr. 3 if they tried; his dub voice is superb.
-
@Mikey:
Haha, the commentary.
"Usopp has learned to use the holes."
"…That sounded suggestive."
Then Sonny went (as Usopp) "FINALLY... I'VE LEARNED!!"
As for the Mellorine thing, that's gone. Sanji was just giggling like a lovesick asshole.
Oh shit, I think I'm more excited for the commentary now! I can't believe he's talking about Water 7 events in Alabasta! They may as well start talking about Franky's daily life in the crew and Brook's panty fetish while they're at it. xD Still, it's nice to see Sonny knows what's going on in the One Piece world.
I've gotten to the part where imposter Cobra acts like a douche. I'm loving all of what I've seen so far. And just in case anyone is curious, in the original he said "Lil' ol' king", which was replaced by him accidentally calling himself a queen. IMO, the latter makes for a funnier joke in English.
As a side note, has Sonny ever used his "stuck in a dungeon" song outside of that one Drum Island episode? It's too awesome for words.
-
Lol, Sonny Strait seems to have alot of time xD. He's on most of the commentarys .
-
The Super Spot-Billed Duck Squad is still the "Supersonic Duck Squadrion" as they were in 4kids and Viz.
Another thing FUNi couldn't get changed back?
EDIT:
In the FUNi dub, Usopp calls himself the "Master of Destruction" after he pulls out the 5t Hammer. And they retained him calling Ms. Merry Christmas a "Penguin". -
I don't understand the set of restrictions Toei has on Funimation.
Do they send them a script of what they have to translate it to?
Do Funimation have no control over their own translation, it all sounds very odd. -

Do Funimation have no control over their own translation, it all sounds very odd.Toei provided FUNimation with a "Master List" of terms. On this list was "Zolo" among other things.
FUNi are forced to follow the list at all times, however they are allowed to petition Toei to change things, FUNi has to wade through Red tape and almost literally "fight" to get Toei to approve the changes.
That's what Mato told us.
Also, the attack used to finish Chopper and Usopp's attack was "Usopp and Chopper Attack: Hammer Comet!"
Which is a literal translation, the only change is that in Japanese, he says "Uso-Cho". FUNi had him call both names out in full.Sanji's attacks during the Mr. 2 Fight are all French and are all right. He even uses "Mouton Shoot". And once, he used "Collier Shoot" even though before he called it "Collier Coup".

Next Episode title: Nami's Cyclone Advisory! Clima Takt Burst!
Looks like the Clima Tact gets to keep it's name. Only, I don't think it's ever been officially romanized by Oda, so the K in there makes sense. It's written in Japanese as "Takuto". The only Romanization I think we have is K-F's, and they admittantly hate the way the letter "K" looks (that's why they Romanize Kokoro's name as "Cocoro")
Also, Luffy pronounced "Clima" in the episode title like the English word "Climate". (IE: "Klai-mah")
-
Did he have the "te" at the end?
About pronounciation:
I've just finished watching S2V3, and I hate the way they pronounce Kureha. I mean, Kure-HA?lol >_> -
I'm pretty sure that's how it's supposed to be pronounced.
-
But the way they say it, it almost like they are using kamehameha >_<. It didn't sound like that in japanese.
-
Wierd that Toei would want him to be called Zolo, very bizzare.
As for Kureha's name, its pronounced as its written, Kur - Re - Ha -
Toei wanted it to be Zolo for TV for the sake of consistency with the 4Kids dub.
-
4kids evil extends even beyond the grave, at least Funi put their foot down on that one.
-

As for Kureha's name, its pronounced as its written, Kur - Re - HaI still don't like it. :-/ Maybe its because I'm used to the way its spoken in Germany. You don't really hear the "H". I just don't like how they say the "ha" part in the english dub..
-
I haven't heard the dubbed version, but the 'ha' is clearly heard in the original.
Although it is spoken quite fast. -
I'm pretty sure that's how it's supposed to be pronounced.
No, not really. Listen to the Japanese pronounciation, and compare it to how FUNi does it; They put FAR too much weight on the "re"-part, making it sound more like "Doctor K'rayhaa". That's one thing that bothers me regarding practically every English-dubbed anime ever.

I'm pretty sure that Japanese words are pronounced differently in English as they are in Japanese. That may not make sense, but at the same time it does. It's like how we pronounce spanish or French words compared to how they do. We always over emphasize certain sounds because it is not our native language.
-
I am fully convinced the US/North American branch of Toei really has no idea what they are doing, or really even know much about the series.

That's for sure. Don't they have a running track record of decision failures over here?
Also, in episode 111,
"NAMI-SWAAAAAAN~!"
Hellz yeahs

I got a little request!
As a non American I dream of DVD Releases of One Piece over here in Austria!
So can somebody post some Pictures of the DVD Packages (selfmade not the Amazon Covershots) and maybe all BoxSets which are released so far in your shelves? Please?

I've always pronounced it "KLI-MAH-TACT." Know anybody pronouncing it "KLEE-MAH-TACT?"
-
I've always pronounced it "KLI-MAH-TACT." Know anybody pronouncing it "KLEE-MAH-TACT?"
Yes. Me. That's how it's pronounced…
-
That's how I've heard Akemi Okamura say it.. (Klee-mah-tact)
-
@The:
Yes. Me. That's how it's pronounced…
I think the other version sounds better, with climates and all.
-
I given up on the climatact since everyone pronounces it their own way. Personally I do it the Kli-ma-tact way. So when I reference it now, I just say climate baton (what funi would have called it on tv if austrailia didn't get the uncut)
-
The Japanese way to pronounce it is the "Koo-Ree-mah Tah-koo-toh" or "Klee-Mah Tahkt"
"Clima" is however taken from the English word "Climate" which is pronounced differently. So to take that into account, "Klai-mah Tahkt" is right for an English speaker. Since the Word "Clima" isn't a Japanese word, it's an English word being said by a Japanese person, you don't need to strictly adhere to any Japanese pronunciations because it's not a Japanese word to begin with.
I mean, just take a look at Robin's attacks. She NEVER pronounced "Fleur" right in the Japanese version because the way it's written in Japanese doesn't take proper accenting into account.
So instead of "Fleur" you get her saying "Fururu". Does that mean Stephanie Young should be going "Fururu"? No, she pronounces it the French way because it was a French word to begin with.Same deal here.
-
^ actually clima means weather in Spanish.
A not too sure on what other languages have words similar to it. Although due to Spanish being a Latin based language I wouldn't be surprised most of them
did as well.Actually, isn't English mix of german with French?
Tbh all I'm trying to say is that on some but not all cases some engrish words are not really intended to be engrish but another language. -
But how is the word "Clima" pronounced in Spanish?

hmm .. sounds like "klee-ma" to me
-
It's like I said already. Words in Japanese and other languages may sound different when spoken in another language. It's no different than when Japan uses English words, pronouncing a word like "great" as "guratoo", or "Bob" as "Bobu". It's altered so the word fits more smoothly in whatever language it is.

I'm from Spain and here they say "Klee-ma"..although lots of people don't use the word…or I just haven't heard it much XD

Cleema, Claima, tomayto, tomahto…

You know, we could have been stuck with 'Weather Forcer' again so stop complaining, a slight misprounication of a word happens often. It happened in Ouran too and Caitlin Glass even noted it on the Ouran blog.
I understand we live in a time where such things are easy to check but some words have different ways of being said in other languages. For example, one can either say 'ask' or 'arsk' when the word 'ask' and the same would apply to 'bath' and 'barth'. One is common English and one is old English but they can be used by anyone at one time or another.
So they used the English way of saying 'Clima' and not the Spainish way but to be frank, I didn't know it was a Spainish word (Hadn't seen that part of its dub) and I would have made the same mistake. If anything, these kind of things happen all the time and we have to get over them.

Hey guys, is Youtube getting more serious about restricting the One Piece clips now? I mean, do you think I should even bother putting clips up, or hold off?
-
Do what MikeyDPirate did & try Megaupload/Megavideo.

I've read in this thread that couple of people are receiving voyages earlier than their actual release date. May I know where is it that you guys buy the DVDs at? If not then I would really like to know where can I buy the DVDs at a great price.
-
Early shippings of the dvds seem to come from Rightstuf.com.

though not as early as Right Stuf, I did get a shipping confirmation from dvdpacific 2 days ago. And they vary a lot as well, sometimes they'll ship really early and sometimes it's a few days before the release date.
But it only cost me $28.5 and free shipping.
*Can't wait for it to get here, I held off on watching Season 2 pt 4 so that I could watch 4 and 5 and just have one full day dedicated to nothing but One Piece episodes!
