Well, back story is back story.
Ladies and gentlemen, we have a Brooke flashback. That's what I like about the One Piece flashbacks (As well as Lost), even if the character says what happens before it's shown, I'm still interested to see it. We all knew that it would be Brooke dying with his entire crew in a pirate attack, but it's nice to see it from his point of view.

poor brooke, burying all his nakama. i love how Oda gave him stitches where his skull is cracked.
btw, looks like YORKI to me. the horizontal line on the top of the third letter wouldn't make sense as shading or part of the poster.
One page 9:
On panel 3, Brooke is the only one who seems to be more glad than shocked that Laboon followed them. I think there is no better explanation for their close relationship (but Yorki looks very happy too… because he's about to cry...)
This chapter is so full of emotional moments! Laboon crying because no one plays music for him, Brooke and the skeletons of his friends, Brooke holding the hand of the dying Yorki, Brooke steering the ship alone... and it still doesn't feel like we reached the Climax of his flashback.
well it apears that Yorki took the ship away with the rest of the infected crew (brook can be seen with the group left on land)
Did the Rumba pirates have two ships? because the ship Yorki took had a figurehead on it, and the ship brook died on did not have one.
Also it looks like we might get another chapter (still havent seen how brook and the rest of the crew are killed yet)

Wow. That was a bit more of a condensed flashback than what I thought was going to happen, but it was still fantastic.
The second I realized that Brook had sideburns when he was alive made me happier than it should have.

Too bad Brook's ship wasn't the one that fell down Sky Piea. That would have been interesting. But this is great just the same.
Finally, a high-quality scan of the raw. Thanks BF. Anyway, this chapter is lookin good but sad. I felt so bad for Brook having to gather the skulls of his friends and bury them. It must've been so hard for him. Also that guy does look like Franky. And I'm sure now that the captains name is Yorki.

If there are two ships, as that seems to be the case, it explains something which looked like a mistake early on. As Brook's ship didn't look like the ship seen in the first Laboon flashback. This flashback actually does show that ship from way back, the one with the steer mast. Since the crew takes on another ship, it explains why they look different. With the sick crew leaving, it also explain may explain why Crocus thought they left the Grand Line. He probably heard about the crew on the original ship while the healthy crew kept going on the Line.
Ha ha, I just realized that a yagara or whatever those things are called is applying on the cover.
Does anyone else find it odd how much the Rumba pirates resemble the Phoenix crew from the anime filler? Sick captain, whittled down crew, derelict ship…
Also, this chapter shows that Yorki's crew was taken down by hand to hand combat, and not merely at range by cannon fire as had been suggested by the anime. The kid in the polka dot shirt had a sword stuck in his skull... so we can assume Brooke died in One on One combat and we may yet meet an old timer who was guilty of that massacre.
One other note is that the ship Brooke was stranded on at the start of the arc is NOT his old crew's ship. It lacks the cow skull head piece and has different patterns on the sails. Brooke likely was stranded on that ship by the Thriller Bark crew after his zombie killing rampage through TB. Considering the other people who had their shadows stolen at the same time as Brooke, that ship could have belonged to the striped shirt guy who got fried, the weird dancer, or any number of crews.
This makes it more likely that Lola and friends will take off with that ship after Franky fixes it up for them. I doubt they'd want a ship with a mausoleum in the hold.
Man, Rumba Pirates sure were pretty awesome. Very funny crew.

That was a really sad chapter… Maybe the most emotional until now... i mean, Brook lost all of his crewmates. Everyone... it was almost too much for me, when he picked that skeleton up, that used to be his friend and nakama.
I am feeling more sympathy for Brook than ever before...
