Only Japanese songs I really like are anime openings. Through this though, I've gotten into a few Japanese bands. L'Arc~en~Ciel and Jindou come to mind. L'Arc~en~Ciel is one of my favorite bands, just because of how unique all of their songs sound, and how they're all very distinct from each other.

I pretty much only listen to anime music when it comes to Japanese rock/pop.
Asian Kung Fu Generation is my favorite.
I like a lot of Japanese "hip-hop" too, like Orange Range, BACK-ON and whatever I'm not remembering right now.
A lot of my favorite songs come from Gintama, and Bleach for some reason.

As for J-Rock, I've found a liking to Sambomaster, as I like that type of style of Rock. The Sex Machineguns (prior to the forming of the new group) style of Speed Metal is one that I find rather very fun to listen to, if you understand the lyrics and/or are able to translate them. Their guitar and bass solos are pretty reminiscent of Dragonforce's.

I get mine from Limewire. L'Arc~en~Ciel is huge in Japan though, so it's pretty easy to come across stuff from them though. Try googling "Galbadia Hotel", you can get music from most video games and anime from there.
Also, Bump of Chicken. Sailing Day and Karma are two of my favorites that they did.

Those are their best two in my opinion; I don't have any of the other ones saved on my computer. The ones after Sun Sun Sun just sound exactly like it but get progressively more boring and lifeless as they go on.

Not really rock, but I guess TOKYO SKA PARADISE ORCHESTRA falls under pop. Love those guys. Their Lupin III music was great.
