Yeah, Luffy's grandfather the marine general is gonna come to them and train them. Yeah. That makes sense.
luffy wasn't only trained by his grandfather so fuck off

yes and with the chapter being out i can venture out a lil bit and speak about a theory i've been thinking about. Some how some way the crew encounters Dr. Vegapunk he becomes enamored by the crew for certain reason and decides to help them out. He could upgrade Franky, Usopp weapons, Choppers rumble balls, Nami's clima tact.
This is the type of thread I enjoy reading!
By all accounts the Strawhat crew needs something more. They barely made it this time, and it wasn't even through a measure of their own power, it was largely lent power from a thousand shadows that filled Luffy to a lethal point (that's the impression atleast) and accidental allies from around.
While it's arguable that they can, to an extent, rely on alliances in the coming world, I strongly believe that they need something new and powerful, like many have mentioned before. DF's, external training, and Zoro's perpetual conditioning (he's badly wounded this time though, so he'll need serious help) will be a great help, yeah, but what I think they need to do is take the oncoming threats a bit more seriously. By that I mean that up until now it's all semed largely haphazard and random, with our heroes suddenly appearing with a new trick every second arc(?), and as we could see from Kuma and Aokiji (and the two emperors) that's not going to cut it.
In Choppers case he's hugely reliant on medical tech, which they have ample opportunity to see more of in the coming arcs, or have already; picking up a line of thought from Hogback's research. Not the zombies, but something else. Or in the coming arc he'll pick up something cool.
His weakness is execution. He's incredibly poor in his execution, seemingly more reliant on random luck than actual usage. He needs hands-on training with the crew. Badly.
One of the crew-members that badly needs to work on his physique is Usopp. While you can laud his resilience (he seems to be able to take some immense hits after all), he needs to work on dodging and positioning. While he doesn't lack ideas and gadgets, he sorely lacks planning and tactics. In the future the enemies will hopefully be smart enough to "go for the throat" immediately, which will require him to be more mobile to not be skewered like a pig within the first 5 minutes? At the same time I suspect he's got a future in acting or illusions. Just a thought.
The weather-rod that Nami has makes her a rather frightening opponent, if my imagination's not running wild, because the possibilities are endless. From conjuring winds for the ship, lightning to strike people and boats, illusions and fogs, I don't see how she can't continue to become truly immense, rivalled only by DF users in control of the weather, or elements. She just needs to train more, with things like aforementioned boat-winds.
The beloved and immensely cool hand-maid Nico's probably the ultimate disruptor and tactical "deployment"/planner. She's able to place hands and ears everywhere, break necks and twist wrists that creates huge opportunities, creating bridges/stairs/walls(?) for her teammates, and even getting some air-times. This is another one where the possibilities are seemingly endless, all we need is a modicum of imagination and cooperation.
Franky's "easy" really. He's an inventor, robotic/metallic/gun one at that, using cola as his fuel. He's probably going to get some "Cola booster" from Chopper, and add some extra enhancements to his cyborg-body, maybe with some help from Usopp.
Our three brute force boys, Zoro, Luffy and Sanji are the tricky ones. They're "limited" in the sense that they're dead on physical melee/havoc engines. The important thing is that Zoro's a staunch believer in "getting there by his own engine", and I suspect Sanji's pretty much the same. For Z and S I think they're lagging behind, with a bad need to train really hard and develop more efficient techniques/just getting brutally stronger. After all, I can't see the emperors with any apparent DF's, and they're… well.. emperors, so why can't Sanji and Zoro?
Luffy's creative as hell too, but he's already a DF user that's getting perilously close to getting himself killed repeatedly through his techniques, so I think he's hitting a wall, and needs to take the route that Sanji and Zoro are taking/needs to take. Though I can imagine that Luffy's willing to pick up some "DF enhancer" or something unique to him that permits him to go "NUTZ MOAD!" or something (probably gotten from some mad scientist in the future, or Chopper).
As for Brooke… I just don't know. He's a skeleton, but if I'm to make wild and uneducated guesses I'll hope for something ninjaish. Pirates and a ninja, that'd be so awesome <3
... but I doubt that. I just don't have a friggin' clue. Perhaps he's indestructible or something? Maybe he'll use "THE FORCE OF THE DOO!" (his hair :P).
Vegapunk's probably going to be a crucial character as well, and I can't even begin at the possibilities that he can open without spending hours listing them all :p

This is an amazing post.
If anything, Luffy should master Gear5 to the point of doing something devasting like a Gigant Jet Pistol. For some reason I think PISTOL will be Luffy's ultimate atack after all the talk he had with Shanks as a child about his punch being as strong as a pistol.

This is a pretty good theory, if a bit vague (and I suspect Luffy was hitting like a pistol back against Cowface:P), so I'll expand with how I look at it, because it does have a point.
What if the next step in Luffy's combat style isn't HUGE EMBELLISHING MOVES THAT FLATTENS THE PLANET, but instead it's "sniper/pistol"-hits, or "surgical strikes". It'd make sense to become more economical in your movements when you become more skilled, which he might need.
On the other hand I seriously doubt Vegapunk is the GOD that we'd like him to be, but that he'll lend help, or insights that seriously opens the Strawhats eyes or possibilities, is of course highly likely.

It was stated by Kuma that Dr. Vegapunk technology is 500 years more advanced than anyone else. So why wouldn't he be superior to them ?

Aokiji seemed vastly superior. Not entirely sure on Kuma, I mean come on they had just beaten a big ass zombie with Luffy's shadow inside it who had beaten all of them down repeatedly and injured them and then they needed to beat Moria with 1000 shadows inside him after which Luffy went out cold and into chibi mode. They were all severely injured and you can't expect them to beat another Shichibukai in that state, really.

As a MAJOR ally. They don't get skill help from anybody of incredible supiriority. And I don't consider God top be in that cetegory at all.
the only Straw hats that would have a hard time getting more powerfull(from what i could think of) is Zorro and Sanji. Everybody else has devil fruits or weapons that can explore with the exception of Usopp(who I think still needs to learn some sniper techniques). I just can't think of an upgrade for Sanji and Zorro. Maybe new karate and sword moves?
^It doesn't matter, because they always win anyway =/

The first time you said nothing about them being major allies. I don't recall the crew having any major allies that didn't eventually join the crew. So where are you going with this. There are certain things each person in the crew is good at and when some1 joins the crew their skill is vastly superior to every1 else at their given skill.
@Kitsune::
He's talking about Dadan, I think.
Hmmmm, yeah I actually forgot about that. I thought that was a misspelling at first but I just checked multiple sources and it doesn't look like it. I apologize then.

But not someone vastly supiror to most of them at each person's best skill. The Vegapunk idea that was stated made him supirior to multiple straw hat crew members in thier best fields.

Robin's MAD, so I bet she will pull off something amazing in her next fight.
Who knows, maybe she will beging to use a bunch of sprouted stuff to create Giant Limbs to make up for her weakness, and I meant it as in she surrounding her own body with the sprouted limbs to create Giant extensions unlike the thing she pulled off with Moria.
Just Imagine Robin walking around with a pair of Giant feets and Giant arms. :S

speculate how he would be better than each crew member in their best field
I'm surprised that Usopp has yet to invent a glove/gauntlet/SOMETHING that nullifies/absorbs the aftershock of the Impact Dial. Usopp typically uses the damn thing whenever an enemy gets too close and is a part of his usual arsenal.

Tellin' ya. He should attach it to a rubber hammer to make a true Usopp Pound. Rubber would withstand the shock better (so maybe just a few layers of rubber gloves?)
a time skip would solve a lot
Damn if only Franky could do what the T-X could. It'll be too cool im telling ya.
They'll get stronger the same way they always do: by gaining a higher level of realizations with their own abilities. Luffy will probably figure out a way to use his rubber powers in a way that makes him an equal competitor with his opponents, while at the same time not having the drawbacks of injuring himself.
a time skip would solve a lot
That wouldn't happen though, not the way this story is written. Anyways, a timeskip is only interesting when someone gets older, like Naruto going from kids to teenagers. One Piece characters would barely look like they've aged.

Ah, right, that figures. Thought you hadn't read the manga so far or something.
I'm checking the manga again, but I can ask right off the bat - wasn't the sword an elephant eating a sword-fruit, and as such there's only one?
Unless there's a katana-fruit or something. Wow… that'd be pretty cool.
Imagine Brooke dual-wielding sea-kings or something! Hahaha

No, it was a swrod that ate an Elephant frut.

….
or they could just... age them less years then that
Well, i was hoping more for a shape shifting sword. Like Brooke jumping into the air, and then his sword changes into a axe.. and he comes crashing down spinning. Of course getting dizzy from the after effects xD to make his battles slightly humorous.
Or a flaming (dial) sword would be so badass.
Brook just needs t drink more milk. Then he'llbe stronger.
or take calcium pills
Hmm, for Brook to get stronger though does seem pretty difficult. However, he seems like he could become a faster swordsman than Zoro, due to his lightweight and lack of muscles or skin. We're not even sure he's part of the crew yet though. I mean it does already have a swordsman. Well maybe not after that last chapter.
maybe brooks and zoro become sparring partners helping him train little by little while hes still recoving
I don't see a time-leap as a logical way to forward the story at all.
You can draw parallels to Naruto and what was done there in the "time-leap", but I don't see any massive big boss for the Sh crew to crush, a hidden island to train on, or stuff like that. Wouldn't it be fairly against the progressive feel of OP so far?
Brooke could coat his bones with adamantium :>
What else does Robin do?
The answer is simple: an advanced use of her fruit could make her able to multiply the things she's holding in her hands. Like if she has two sabers, one in each hand, she could become some kind of Kali goddess by doubling her arms and thus the swords. Of course the objects disappear with her hands, or if she drops them.
So, what else does Robin do now?

The problem with Robin is that, as far as I can tell, she's the second-most powerful in the group (macro-wise it's Nami, controlling the weather's second to very few abilities. Micro-wise it's apparently Luffy, as it should be, seeing he's able to beat almost everything in his path?) due to the sheer overwhelming amount of tactical options available to her.
Oda's problem then will be to not "overpower" his characters, lest he'll make the whole series become pretty stupid with planetbusters and starcrushers and so forth.
Luffy:
Gears are a a great idea but I don't want that Oda makes more of them…
Zoro:
Just new swords... He got a new sword now ad his attacks are stronger like his Pound Cannon
Sanji:
Dunno... But I dont want him or anyone else to have CP9 skills... But I have to say that is a bit strange that he haven't a Rankyaku skill... Even the weakest CP9er Nero could do it... And Zeff seems to cut air to stop the fire-pearls years ago
Robin:
She don't have to train... She is deadly but she never fights... And i don't want her to be a physical super-human like the upper three
Nami:
CILMA-TACT
Ussop:
New gadgets
Chopper:
Rumble-Ball enhancements
Franky:
Maybe a energy drink
(Brook):
Train to a level like Ryuma
As far as i notice(i maybe wrong) most of the major fights are physical battle.I'm not saying its bad, but its good to have a 'mental' fight once in a while. As in like some psycho-guy with the ability to affect the SHs mentally(like affecting the brain, casting illusions that they[SHs] only they are seeing, making feeling dreadful of something that occur in their past etc.) thus having the SH to overcome the 'mental-barrier'.
Ill say this would make the SHs stronger psychological wise.Seriously if the newer boss keeps getting physically stronger i cant what the 'most-powerful boss' can do, and it'll be great to have a boss with strong 'mental' powers rather than having him to have strong physically.
They should just take American drugs, team evil style.
