Best dubs

Okay, we had a topic about the worst dubs, how about some great ones?

I have to begin with Golden Boy. Doug Smith really did a damn good job giving Kintaro Oe some energy. Slayers is another one I greatly enjoyed. Mostly because it has Crispin Freeman as Zelgadis. I also saw some of the GaoGaiGar dub and it was quite good, especially with Dan Green's talent. He does a great job outside of 4Kids' shit. Too bad Media Blasters dropped doing the series:sad:

Azumanga had a decent dub but I would have liked to see some honorifics used. When they refer to Sakaki as Miss Sakaki it sounds like she's a teacher or something.:getlost:

Also I'm gonna take a lot of flak for this but I somewhat enjoyed the Fate/stay night dub. Although I only saw about the first 3 episodes on Jewtube before the user uploading them got b&.

Outlaw Star is still probably my favorite all-time dub.

Cowboy Bebop is my favorite off-hand.

I liked FLCL and Big O a lot too.

Fruits Basket. It had some pretty top tier japanese talent and the dub actors surpassed them somehow. Specifically Jerry Jewel's Kyo and Laura Bailey's Tohru Honda. Really amazing work.

The Berserk dub is a standout too for it's perfect casting. Literally every voice fit perfectly. Even the minor characters and is extremely well delivered.

Yuyu Hakusho as well since it's the first time I'd ever seen a shonen series done well and convincingly in english. Even the attack screams sound genuine which, before that american dubbers seem to be too shy about really going for.

Big O is a really great dub, Dorothy in particular did a great job. FMA is a good dub, shame that it didn't follow the manga, so it was bad… Trigun had some pretty good stuff going for it, I liked the Gung-Ho Gun's voices. Death Note too, Light's VA knows how to be completely over the top.

Cowboy Bebop's dub will probably never be topped. It's so perfect and natural, that it actually sounds like an american cartoon and not a show dubbed from another language.

Trigun and Fruit's basket are also dubs that I really dig, and FLCL and excel saga are great too.

I've seen it and the only thing that got stuck in my head was the thought of turning my TV or placing it on mute whenever it came on.

And it's a suprise the Naruto dub is making a good showing here considering all the unnecessary criticism it takes.

Yeah, I still think the Outlaw Star one was really good, particularly considering when it aired.

I always liked the dubs of Slayers and Ranma 1/2, but I haven't seen them in a while so I guess I could have just been imagining things.

My fave dubs would have to be Fullmetal Alchemist, Fruits Basket, Gunslinger Girl… Mostly I prefer Funimation dubs. they just tend to be the most natural sounding. whether this is due to quality of voice actors or directors, I couldn't say, but I usually enjoy most any dub from Funi

I agree with the notions about Cowboy Bebop. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that Cowboy Bebop is American anyways, with its English songs, American names, and general atmosphere. Anyway, David Lucas rules as Spike Spiegel; a near-perfect voice that makes Spike a cut above the mounds of pretenders.

I also quite like Rurouni Kenshin. I really like Richard Hayworth's thoughtful and tactiturn Kenshin portrayal, and Lex Lang gives a nice Han Solo vibe to Sano. Sparky Thornton (sp?) brings a lot of dry humor with him when he does Saito, and even Dorthoy Mendelez gives a much more likable performance as Kaoru then when she did Meryl from Trigun.

Maybe not the Saban dub, but the Canadian dub was far, far better than the FUNi dub. But hey, don't take my word for it.

I liked the dubs for Cowboy Bebop, Outlaw Star, Big O, and Yu Yu Hakusho, but I never saw the original Japanese for any of them.

For ones that I've seen in Japanese and English, Detective Conan's dub was good. Too bad it, and Lupin, apparently didn't do well on TV. They were two of my favorite anime that Adult Swim ever aired.

Fullmetal Alchemist has a great dub. I think I like it more than the Japanese version, actually. Even though the anime was kind of "Meh" compared to the manga, we got some great performances. For me, Vic Mignonia fits Ed more than his Japanese voice actress. He does great with the sarcasm and angry rants.

I like all the Studio Ghibli movies dubbed by Disney. I was a bit skeptical at first at them using a star-studded cast for the Miyazaki movies, but they're all surprisingly appropriate for the roles.

OMG, I forgot about Cormartie HS, that thing was awesome (even though I never heard of the Vas in it…)

All of the Japanese movies were great also (well, except of maybe some Pokemon one, since I gave most of them a 6/10 rating on imdb, and the ones I gave 8 or higher are the Deoxys one, Manaphie, and Lucario)
