Ace´s and Whitebeard´s Relationship

Hey people! There is a question bothering me for some time now…

It´s a fact that Ace´s is a rather strong pirate, so it would not have been a problem for him to gather his own crewmates and try to get the One Piece on his own.
Yet he chose to join the Whitebeardcrew, And not only does he show great admiration for Whitebeard (he freaks out when somebody talks bad about his captain), but on top of that it is his dream to make him pirateking ,not to become king himself!

What do you think happened between those two, to make Ace act this way? Yeah WB is a great man, but not that great that you would build your dream on him, would you?
Does Ace know more about WB than the reader?
Did he hear of the great whitebeard stories when he was a kid and wanted to join by all means?
Was Ace once rescued by Whitebeard and decided to make him King because he is in his debt?
Or are they even related?

I'm leaning towards, Ace getting to cocky fighting another pirate crew, (possibly loosing all his nakama) and is saved by WB who teaches him some humility and of course, acts like a father to him.

Maybe it was a Shanks-Luffy type of relationship, but instead of giving him a dreamy talk and his hat Whitebeard simply accepted Ace onto his crew(that or Ace was more stubborn than Luffy, which is kinnda hard to imagine, maybe he just went on as a stowaway at first). Anyway, Luffy met Shanks, who was kinnda all for shaping the future, while Ace met Whitebeard, the old guy who doesn't want to retire, resting on old memories, still trying to get the thing he already lost years ago to Gold Roger.

I bet that almost everybody in Whitebeard's crew thinks of him as a father, and Ace is just another example. Not a special relationship, but just a very solid one.

I bet Ace went "Cap'n Carter" when he first meet Whitebeard.

I think Whitebeard and Ace have same relationship as Luffy and Shanks. Remember in the Beginning of One Piece Luffy wanted to join Shanks but he was turned down. But when Ace asked to join Whitebeard he was accepted or Ace dream was to join Whitebeard crew because he is the strongest man in the world.

How would Ace have gotten the Luffy/Shanks relationship with WB if WB was allways in the new world? He must have sailed for quite a while by himself to get in contact with WB imo.

The whole Pirate King game probably isn't really something most pirates play, its a dream within a dream, thats why Luffy always gets laughed at or warned when talking about it, its something most pirates wouldn't claim to be after, and I guess it was easier for Ace to go help a guy who was nearer to One Piece than any other living soul, than to go hunt after it on his own.

I think Ace fights for the strongest guy, and imo he thought like the guy he should be the pirate king… is the strongest guy. He fought WB an decided to become his subordinate and to make him the pirate king.

Well we dunno yet if Ace had his DF powers before he joined WBs crew.If he didn't he was just a strong human and going ahead himself wouldn't be enough imo.Though he was strong enough to be recruited by WB.While he was at his crew he started admiring WB a lot and even more when he got his DF.And I'm also sure that it's been a while that Ace has joined so WB crew so it's normal to get mad on someone when he speaks ill about his captain. The same happens with the SH crew, right?

I'm also negative that it's a father-son like relationship.It's true that Wb said that everyone on the ship is like his son, but if this was the case Wb wouldn't let Ace go to kill Teach himself.He would have same feelings at all.

That's my opinion anywayz, maybe it's dumb, dunno.. lol

What I am more waiting for is Whitebeard's reaction on the information that BB smashed Ace.
BB killed a member of WB's crew, what made WB send Ace to defeat BB…
Will WB send another guy after BB or will he do it on his own? And what the heck does the WG think by making someone a Shichi. who is wanted by Wb?

What I read into their conversation was that WB lost track of Shanks while shanks was outside of the New world/Grandline. To me that suggests he did not visit EB himself. Besides why would WB ever need to leave the New world?
(Unless I'm mistaken Shanks left in connection to GDRs death.)

Uhmm… what does Shanks hometown have to do with this? What would WB want to do there? He would need to go to east blue to pick up Ace since that is where Garp left Luffy and his brother.. Unless Ace sailed by himself somewhere, and to get to West Blue it seems he would need to cross the Grand line or travel on the red line.

I think it´s simple as it is. ace is a loyal pirate so he will make his captain to the king of pirates.

I am guessing that Ace just randomly joined the Whitebeard Pirates. I think most of them did. And then later was he noticed and made 2nd division commander. But i think he ate the mera mera no mi before he joined

I'm guessing sending one strong crew member is a little less stretching on WBs frontline. If he went personnally he risks loosing a lot of things possibly such as his place in the GL. I remember saying early on when Luffy enter the GL that you have to keep progressing forward in the GL. Plus one single member can move about more freely then a whole ship can.

I kinda think towards the lines of WB being more like a tough army sargent. He properly doesn't acept failure as an option and if you do fail he won't kiss the pain away. We don't know what would happen to Ace, thats the thing, if he is alive having failed to stop BB. Ace would have been shamed alot, he wouldn't be able to go back to WB thats for sure.

I meant, it seems all D's have extremely big dreams. Ace's seems a bit lax, his dream is to assist another to the great dream of dreams.

I understood that the first time. But in case there's a misunderstanding about what i wrote:

To me, the fact that Ace is supporting Whitebeard is the strongest proof that WB truly is a great Pirate. Yonkou, strongest man alive, past with Roger, that's all well and good, but what really makes me wonder about him is that a monster, D and logia haxx0r like Ace is his follower.

That was a huge hype for the level of the new world and for Whitebeard.

Ace might have modest pretensions for a D but it's still awesome

Oh I agree and all, I'm just saying, there has to be a bit of a deeper reason behind it. WB had to do SOMETHING big to gain his respect like that.

one. He saved him form certain death.

two. He fought WB lost, almost died, but WB saved him.

three. Wb is and has been a father like figure to Ace for the better part of his life..

Yeah, Whitebeard obviously has to be a monster and a great pirate and I can´t wait for him to show his stuff - but at the same time he´s a failure.
He hasn´t managed to reach the end of the GL (Raftel) for more than 20 years, beeing the man nearest to it (according to Buggy).

That´s one of the biggest mysteries of the series: what kind of obstacle(s) stalled WB and the likes for all this time - yet leaves Ace in the hope to make him pirate king (still)?
