I don't really see what's bad about the Bleach one. Anyway, this came to mind:

Hidan and Kakuzu looking at you with a bunch of Narutos in the background filling up space. Compelling. -
Part of it's that the featured character in question (Kira) was barely involved in the actual volume
and the rest… god, that cheesy OH NO I'M BEING CONSUMED BY SHADOWS always came off as pretty terrible to me.

The Naruto one with Team Snake. The characters are bad enough but it's like Kishimoto colored the piece by eating modeling clay and vomiting everything on the page.

You crazy, that HxH cover is excellent.
Anyways, even though I love his stuff and have like 20 of his books, I'm gonna put up a couple Minoru Furuya (Inachuu Ping Pong Club, Ciguatera, Himizu, etc.) books because his covers are mostly atrocious and not even in a cool way.

While many Bleach covers are craptastic (Kaien, Szayel, Luppi), there are still a couple really cool ones that Kubo got right. (Gin, Ikkaku, Yoruichi, Kuukaku..I even like Orihime's first cover)

The Naruto Japanese covers are pretty horrible (unless of course the one that are english are the same cover as the Japanese, are they)?
I really hate those Bleach covers too (at least do it w/ couple of chracters, like in Rave Master, or OP)

They're stil better than those Bleach covers. DC's covers are shit,but they're like, trying to be all spooky and mysterious. Kubo's basically doodling a character and going "that's the cover!" No thought into the composition, no bg, no style, not even two characters posing together. Literally JUST A FUCKING CHARACTER STANDING AROUND. Atleast have them flashing a peace sign or fucking chewing gum or chilling out. Anything. Goddamn Bleach sucks…goddamn...
but it's just another Naruto and Bleach bash topic.

^this cover was so shitty they had to cancel Slam Dunk in America after people saw it.
Srsly…wtf Inoue-sensei? Am I supposed to like it because it has Rukawa in it? It looks like he just took a random panel from the manga and colored it. And the perspectives inaccurate!Naruto has some pretty decent covers. I remember some badass ones with Naruto and strings of kunai and chains and crap like that.

HXH broke ground for how purposely shitty you can make the artwork and not only get away with it,but still maintain popularity with the series. The covers are well done, considering a bunch of the chapters were basically drawings of stick figures with no backgrounds.

Well, I personally think that Naruto Part I had a handful of cool covers.
And Bleach's covers might seem kind of lazy, but the sole character portrait has been kind of a norm from day 1, and the only time I think it's unsatisfactory is when he uses a lame character (Kaien, Cirucci), reuses a character (Ichigo, Orihime), or does it in a really lame style (Kira).
I'll probably get a bunch of boos, but I always thought this was a pretty lame OP volume cover:

D. Gray-Man volume 4 is maybe the only one I consider "bad" for the series, if only because it's really plain.
Pretty much every other cover is incredible, 1, 6, 9, and 12 are my favorites.

I agree.
Most of those types of covers in one piece(4 boxed pictures with characters in front) are pretty bad
THe latest one with OZ could have been better too.

Because I do. I never bother to see them untill now, so I have to say, Oda really knows how to blend his characters to fit in a cover.
I dunno what you think, but the sometimes funky colors weren't a problem at all if you take in consideration the placing of everything.
