it was in the wrong forum, though.
oh its one of the half of the video game threads that weren't moved
Mass Effect is pretty iffy. The story is really good. But I personally think the combat is terrible, especially when your in the car. Maybe my characters suck, they died so fast, and maybe it's cause I made my Shepard an Engineer instead of a soldier (my male shepard was a Soldier, but then I went with Female.. for certain reasons >.>)
Best buy for the 360 is Call of Duty 4, no doubt. This is by far the most fun I've had with an FPS since Gears of War. Halo is NOTHING compared to COD4, and I'm kind of mad it gets so much attention.
And there's plenty of stuff to be excited about for the 360 upcoming. Lost Odyssey is my big "can't wait". 360 looks like it'll be the PS2 of this gen. Sorry PS3.
I was gonna get Bioshock, but I said screw it rented it, finished it and took it back.
I never got what was so great about Bioshock. The story was good, but it wasn't incredible with the gameplay. Other games certainly could've been game of the year over Bioshock.
Then again, I don't see what's so great about Super Mario Galaxy, so maybe I have bad taste in games.
yeah my Brother got CoD4 and Halo 3 with it, and CoD4 was definatly much much more than I expected
he got Rock Band yesturday aswell, so much fun
Well I got CoD4, Rock Band, DOA4, Halo 3, and on the aracade I gots Puzzle Fighter ,TMNT, Street Fighter and Alien Hominid.
and I'm constantly debating with myself over getting Mass Effect
I'm in love with Mass Effect, I even like the combat a lot, but I still hesitate to recommend it to anyone. Dunno, it just seems like a game that isn't for everybody. If you can try it first.
From what I have read, apparently Lost Odyssey isn't that hot after all.
Can ya go online with Mass Effect?
Like playing against other players? No. It's a just single player experience. Like KotOR, Baldur's Gate, Fallout or… you know. It wouldn't make a good online game anyway. But there will be downloadable content though. To gap bridge between ME 1 and eventually coming ME 2. Or at least that's what they promise.
Anything would do, as I'm actually eagerly waiting for an excuse to play throught ME again. I would still like to have something concrete. Now I can't wait for Fable 2 and Fallout 3 either. I want more role playing!
haha maybe I just really like some MMORPG since some RPG I would be bored. But I might rent Mass Effect.
Oh yeah. Sorry, my fault, of course you meant in MMO style. I do play games in every shape and colour but MMOs has never really been my cup of tea, or at least not my number one choice, so I sort of… forgot.
Aw Lost Odyssey isn't all that I hoped it would be?
Blue Dragon was definitely a shitty RPG. I had hoped LO would be much better. Of course I'll still get LO, but to hear that it isn't that great makes me hope for not another Blue Dragon.
There's always Cry-On, Mistwalkers 3rd RPG for the 360. And then Mistwalker is making an MMO that's supposed to be "like" an RPG. Could it be the MMO that I hoped FFXI would have been? Party of 3, random monster encounters, kind of like .hack.
You'd think Sakaguchi could make some awesome stuff.
EDIT:
Oh did anyone play Eternal Sonata? I still have some hope that the 360 won't be just a FPS machine.
Really want to give DMC4 and Enternal Sonata. I plan to buy more new Games Nexy Year since I ger more money haha.
Anyone here buy the XBLA games?
I still have some hope that the 360 won't be just a FPS machine.
Currently I would buy a PS3 for FPS games. PS3 has Resistance and Unreal Tournament 3, plus it has Haze and Killzone 2 and the new Resistance game coming out. The only thing I would miss would be Halo 3. You can buy stuff like The Orange Box and Call of Duty 4 for both machines and coming games like the new RP6: Vegas and the new Episode for HF2 are multiplatform titles.
Oh, I forgot Too Human! Too Human, Fable 2 and Fallout 3 should be enough to satisfy my RPG hunger. As of now my expectations for JRPGs are little low though. Lost Odyssey might still be good. I hope so.
Hey, I liked Blue Dragon. :(
Got one for Christmas, bought The Orange Box with some Best Buy reward coupons + gift card, can't get the ending song from Portal out of my head.
EDIT:

I'm currently about 75% through it. The graphics are undeniably gorgeous but there is no "must-own" JRPG for the 360 yet. ES has some unavoidable issues with combat and story presentation that drag it down, and you really have to jump through some hoops if you want to get any decent achievement points (i.e. only 20% of them are unlockable on the first playthrough, and the second playthrough is twice as hard). I'd say on a hard 1-10 scale where 5 is completely average, this game is a 7, while Blue Dragon is more like a 4 or 5.
If you gotta have RPGs, none of the current-gen systems are very good yet (you really want a DS or PSP) but the 360 is just stuffed with great action games. I've been totally addicted since I got mine this winter.
What exactly is with the Blue Dragon hate? It's basically a throw back to old-school RPGs. What was wrong with that? :s
Metal Slug 3 is coming out this Thursday for 800MP
Because you don't get accolades for being primitive. People don't look to the first RPG on a next-gen system to remind them of something they played 15 years ago. BD has an utterly forgettable story and characters, a plain vanilla battle system, and was sold on the name of people who have been involved in far greater games for most of their careers. What isn't wrong with that?
I thought the story was really bland, the voice actors sucked, the villain was boring, and the combat system was basically attack over and over, maybe use magic once and awhile. And the world was pretty boring. Usually in an RPG there's always something that "wow"s me. Blue Dragon lacked environment. Probably why I wasn't impressed by DQVIII too.

I guess I'm old fashioned that way.
I honestly HATE the crap that is of current day RPGs. Most notably the Final Fantasy series since FFVII (excluding IX, though). I dunno. I'm just getting a weee bit tired of seeing the same typical bishounen males and over the top anime cutesy girl girls in a game that is filled with mostly nothing but angst and moments that make me wanna throw my controller at the screen.
Let's take FFX for example. I go through a long ass journey, listening to Tidus bitch and whine about how daddy never loved him, only to end up fighting said father who turned out to be the main monster the group was setting out to destroy…only to find out the ACTUAL final boss is a fucking orb that merely posesses my summons?
And to top it all off, Tidus is just pretty much a dream?
I CALL SHENANIGANS ON THAT SHIT! :getlost:
play XII
It helped the series a great deal
I loved FFX's fight system. Tidus was a failure of a main character, and Yuna sucked too, but the supporting characters in FFX were really memorable. Auron, Wakka, the Ronso's, etc. And Spira was, at least for me, the best of the Final Fantasy worlds yet.
What did Blue Dragon bring? A big dusty world with one generic castle, a shitty overworld system, and a generic cast.
I have faith in Lost Odyssey cause it seems to have some kind of an epic plot line.
Yeah, from what I've read and heard, Blue Dragon is basically a substandard Chrono Trigger.
My box died :(
I went to send it back to M$ and my friend told me it just needed dust blown out.
24 hours later and he comes back telling me a great story about how he took it apart…piece by piece...
2 weeks and 3 red rings later, the red ring is fixed but now it's giving me a "put this CD into an Xbox console" message.
So I sent it back. Now instead of maybe not having it for Christmas, I won't have it for my Birthday.
Lucky me.
Yeah, the one big thing about 360s is that they are defective. Without that, it's my pick for the current best console.
And I'm starting to hate the people on LIVE. I was playing COD4 today, and they were constantly bitching about me using a Perc that I earned in the game (which they also have access too).
Pretty much the only problem I've had with my 360 is when it scratched up my original copy of Splinter Cell DA.
There are other gripes with the 360 but I don't wanna upset nobody calling them out.

It's ok, Live is all screwy at the moment, if you play online, you're definitely not missing anything, aside from bitchy 9 year olds who can't play their sex box for the New Year.

Who cares there's a collection with every game ever out in stores
Yeah though I wouldn't hesitate to buy that, MS or SNK's biggest flaw was not getting the games in a collection like Anthology the only insentive to getting it would be for online play which if you have a computer and an emulator you can do for free.
Actually, lucky me, my friend bought me the Halo 3 one for my Birthday. Now there's 3 between us, and one we can screw around with because it has no warranty anymore.
But seriously, it took them 2 years to realize and act upon the fact that it had a bad chipset, and constantly overheated? The original Xbox, while not fantastic or godly in any way, worked fine AND still managed to be successful, mostly because it had some good games and attracted the Hardcore gamer when Nintendo shifted it's focus to casual gaming and Sony started packing every feature into their new console and forgot that they still had the most successful console since the NES still selling like hotcakes.
I personally think the Wii wins this round, but the games that are more like demos hold it back. They're all short on content and usually the only thing you take away from them is the message "LOOK, IT HAS MOTION CONTROLS!". Just like how all the DS games say "LOOK, IT HAS 2 SCREENS AND ONE YOU CAN TOUCH!!!". We get it, now can we play real games on them.
I play my Xbox like I used to play my Gamecube a couple years ago, and I love my Wii, but I haven't come close to getting all the fun content off half my Xbox games.
News gfor 360 owners
–------------------
SEATTLE - Microsoft Corp. said Friday it will give Xbox 360 owners a free video game to make up for poor performance over the holidays by the system's online hub.
Gamers log on to the Xbox Live Web site to buy games, television shows and movies to load onto their consoles, and interact with other players.
Video game blogs such as Joystiq recently reported that users had a slew of problems with the site over the holidays, including trouble signing in, downloading media and getting matched with online opponents.
"We are disappointed in our performance," wrote Marc Whitten, general manager of Xbox Live, on the Xbox 360 support Web site.
Whitten said record-breaking traffic and new-member sign-ups caused the "intermittent Xbox Live issues."
Microsoft, which says it has sold more than 17.7 million Xbox 360 consoles since the system's November 2005 debut, bulked up its capacity for gamers on Xbox Live both before the release of the wildly popular "Halo 3" and ahead of the holiday season.
The software maker did not publicly detail the problems Xbox users faced or the steps it has taken to fix the issues.
Whitten said the company will give a free game from the Xbox Live Arcade, but did not say which titles will be chosen, or when.

ohboy ohboy hoboy I KANT WAIT TO PLAY ARKADIAN WARRIORS 4 FREE
Since I haven't used my 360 since Christmas, I downloaded that new Burnout demo and that's about it, getting a free game is pretty much a gift. And not a compensation for Live's poor performance. But that's just me.
Anyhow, it's really lame from Microsoft. We pay pretty hefty price for the service and, don't get me wrong, Live is really great when it works fine but for the price you would expect it to work always and not just almost always. Honestly, the only XBLA game I'm looking forward right now is Castle Crashers. MS, give us that one. Won't happen though. Oh wait, just give us like 800 MS points instead. Everybody will be happy.
Random game recommendation time! Buy Viva Pinata. Seriously.
Oho. Free game, eh? This is why I love the 360. Something happens? Microsoft makes up for it. :D
How do I upload music to my X-Box 360? And please don't tell me it requires X-Box live.
@AWB:

do you have windows media center? If you do, you can just plop all your music in your shared music folder, and sync your xbox with your computer (rather simple process, just follow the steps in the Windows Media section of the dashboard)
If not you can just plug in a flash drive or your mp3 player to the front of your xbox and let it go.
Pretty sure the former doesn't involve xbox live, but does involve your xbox being connected to the internet in some way.
Flash drive, thanks.
The best game on the 360 hands down with no competition is PORTAL! That game rocks my world in too many ways. So anyone who doesn't have Orange box is missing out on the greatest 360 game plus two other amazing titles included! If you've played the half life games on this disk still buy it. It's worth it just for portal and it has Team Fortress 2 as well. It's a can't miss situation!
P.S. Trust me that Portal has excellent replay value, but I won't give any spoilers.
P.P.S. Just keep on trying if you have enough cake
P.P.P.S. I'm still alive
Yea except for one problem Portal is also on PS3 & PC.
Oho. Free game, eh? This is why I love the 360. Something happens? Microsoft makes up for it. :D
did they ever reveal what the free game was?
Uh, er… wasn't it Undertow or some other underwhelming bullshit?
Yeah, it was Undertow. And I figured MS would fuck us over with our free game, instead of just giving us MS points to spend at out leisure.
Question.
How long does one have a 360 before they experience the red ring of death?
Question 2, is this the appropriate thread to ask that question?
@Tommy:
Question.
How long does one have a 360 before they experience the red ring of death?
Depends on who you ask, some see it in a matter of days others a few months down the track, some have never seen it at all (myself included) Apparnetly the newer SKUs with the falcon chipset are much more reliable, so if you're looking to buy, make sure you determine whether or not it has that chipset.
Question 2, is this the appropriate thread to ask that question?
Don't really see the harm.
#1 Well I honestly couldn't say the only technical problems I have with my 360 is occasional freezing in certain games or disc scratching in one rare case.
#2 I don't see why not.

Question.

Just shy of 1 year.
Mine first showed small issues, which I disregarded, around October. The first sign of a real issue happened in the middle of a Halo 3 game on Thanksgiving(give or take a day), I was flying a Banshee on Valhalla, console freezes, controller continues to rumble. So it broke about 11 months after it was bought. Since it was a gift, I had issues trying to return it, and naturally the person who gave it to me in the first place decided sending it back was stupid.
Which leads up to why I own a Halo 3 Xbox.
