Which versions better? (Anime vs Manga)

Twas reading Anime Insider and came across an interesting article that detailed certain anime series comparing which is the better medium of the two. Curious, I figured I'd bring this up to the AP fourms and check out your opinons.

Heres a few of mine

TRIGUN:
ANIME: Good, like a few of the changes to the first half of the series and the action sequences are easier to follow. But I didn't like we didn't get to know more of Knives He mostly on enigma who we hardly get to know least until the end of the series and of course by then all we know is that he evil and hate humans. I also felt Meryl and Milly were mostly there for show hardly doing anything save fro being witnesses.
MANGA: An interesting final half, loved the Livo Wolfwood battle and his final moment which rival his anime's counterparts. Meryl and Milly get more screentime here and the gun-ho-gun battle were to say theleast satisfyingly lively. Though that also a downpoint as there were most panels where I couldn't tell what the heck was going on. Am all for choatic battle but I wanna see what going on too. Still the finale was very nice and sweet so no biggie.

FMA:
ANIME: Start off find but jget pretty emo later on. Dante wasn't really that much of a villan. Just a selfish woman hiding behind alchemy to explain her actions though am glad they humanized Lust in this verison though connecting Envy with Elrics didn't really seem to go anywhere. Wasn't really satisfied with the ending (anime and movie) but it wasn't all bad neither. So it kinda 50/50 on this one.
MANGA: Alot more interesting, exclusive characters give this one some much needed oomph not to mention some very nice random comedy. Also like the fact that homulous aren't as invincible here as in the anime (though just as deadly. Pride creeps me out). and the one that were first freature in the anime coming off completely different in the manga (Kimley for one, being not only homicidal but very cheeky as well). And hey Greed get to live too ^_^

I think Yuyu Hakusho is the only anime i like much better than its manga counterpart. Not a surprise, seeing how Togashi pretty much gives a shit to his works.
Can't remember any other, really.

DragonBall (Anime) Toei really did Toriyama a favor with all the extra stuff they added.

Air Gear (Manga) - started reading this a few hrs ago really was a different experience from the anime once again another Oh Great! manga gets another half-ass anime adaptation.

Excel Saga (Anime) - Honestly I haven't read the manga but it's doubtful my opinion will change given how unbelievably funny the anime is.

Outlaw Star (manga) - I've only read 4 chapters but I really like this more than the anime.

The Trigun manga is just a mess.
Pacing? Mess.
Characterization? Mess.
Art? Mess.

And I may not have read any of them past vol.9, but saying Meryl and Millie have more screentime in the manga is pretty much a gigantic lie.

The anime is extremely superior.

Negima: Manga. First series sucked, haven't even seen the second but I've heard it's kind of funny despite not being canonical.

I prefer the Neuro manga to the anime, definitely, since the anime's deviating pretty far from the original series. And with FMA, I watched the anime, but then when I heard there was a whole different series in the manga, I just decided not to bother with it, probably because I was too lazy or because Sloth was just some generic Juggernaut in it.

I like the Buso Renkin anime more than the manga because they have Tokiko fanservice

Now, Buso Renkin manga was far better than the anime.

The anime left a lot of stuff out and changed other things around to make it "acceptable", but it was still worse than the original. And Tokiko wasn't that hot, so it didn't matter if she had fan service or not.

Really Square

Buso Renkin was pretty mediocre in general.

The Death Note manga is better than the anime, though. Sure the anime has EPIC TENNIS PLAYING CHIP EATING PEN STABBING, but it cut out some minor stuff and the manga ending is much more satisfying.

Bleach's anime is way better than the manga to me. The fight scenes are animated much better then Kubo draws them imo.

The bleach manga is good, aside from the occasional poorly drawn scenes, and it's got the 2nd best anime blood I've ever seen.

One Piece makes for good anime because they have filler arcs that you can get excited about.

I'm the complete opposite. I thought the anime was really lame and the manga was awesome. I'll agree that the pacing sucked pretty badly some of the time, but otherwise it was great.

Also, other than ridiculously lame'n'bland backgrounds, I always thought Bleach's art was one of its strong points, as even when two characters I don't give a shit about are having an awful fight it's well choreographed and whatnot. The Fullmetal Alchemist's anime sucked, ruined a lot of characters (including Ed, which I didn't think was possible considering he isn't a very good character in the first place), and just had a really stupid plot.

The Homonculi are even worse.

Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles looked promising when the anime adaptation was made. I wasn't disappointed when I watched it after catching up to the manga. It was mostly handled well in terms of animation, and the the background music was unbelievable. But, everything took a nosedive during the second half. Almost everything was filler in the second season.

Well, I kinda liked the FR's anime, at least how they expanded properly the ubberly short fights, but yeah, it's a shame that it ended abruptly like the one of Houshin Engi.

Another Anime I didn't like that much was Midori No Hibi. They completely messed up with the whole story to fit as many chapters as they could in the short run.

And Rave Master's anime was a let-down, since they canceled it before they even got to the Doryu fight.

I liked Flame of Recca's anime until I read more of the manga.

What they did to Kukai and most of his team was euhghu

A lot of other things pissed me off. Joker vs. Koganei was cut because the studio exhausted its budget. Fuuko vs. Mikoto was neutered. The damn fox.

The anime was awesome. I haven't read much of the manga, but I cannot fathom going through the series with manga pacing. And I probably never will, since there's not enough of a market to translate the manga, and it's in SUPER JAPANESE even if I do acquire some jappo fluency.

The only flaw was the ending, but that's understandable considering how the manga is still at the match in Washizu's mansion.

/a/ says that Fukumoto says that Washizu will have Akagi totally cornered but then he gets overexcited and keels over due to a heart attack. (Honestly I thought that would happen during the OH MARY FUCKING JESUS ROOOOOON scene.) And Washizu has lots of insane fantasies throughout the match (like NINJA AKAGI killing him and his men or something like that).

But we all knew that Akagi was going to survive anyway. (Speaking of which, Ten really needs to be animated…right after Kaiji finishes, at least.)

Personally I like the Gintama anime better than the manga. The manga's still excellent, but I love the voice acting/BGM and the pacing's really well done for an anime based off a gag manga.

Depends. When it comes to story, I prefer manga. When it comes to action scenes, since I can rarely tell what's going on in the manga without motion, I prefer anime.

Tsukihime manga is better than the anime.

Then again, there is no Tsukihime anime.

Prince Of Tennis (manga) - Eventhough it does push a number of the supporting characters into irrelavancy & blows through parts of the story
awfully quick it doesn't suffer in certain areas like the anime.

Hajime no Ippo (manga) - though the anime follows the manga almost scene per scene it did occasionally change a few things some of which could've been left alone also it ended too soon.

Manga always seem to be better for me. Although with some series it's just plain annoying how bad the anime counterpart can be.

Example would be Gantz I guess. After reading the manga of late I'm finding it hard to believe I liked the anime as much as I did.

But I think thats just the exception. Personally though im not really fussed as long as the transition is good,(little is changed) and the BGM matches the scenes-speaking of which, does anyone else like Bruce Faulconer's scores in the Funimation DBZ dub?(I know, its ooold but still good)

Which I prefer kinda depends on the series. I generally prefer anime, but sometimes the manga is undeniably better.
Naruto Shippuuden is absolute crap, but the manga is okay. Still just as horribly paced, but at least it doesn't take 20 minutes to read a single chapter, so the bad pacing isn't quite as annoying there.
One Piece is great in both versions, though I generally prefer the anime, just for the obvious advantages all anime have over their manga-counterparts. (Colors, movement, voiceacting and music.)
Bleach is slightly better in the manga. The anime is dragged out, but not to the point where it's ridicculous, unlike Naruto.
Dragonball… I like both versions. The anime is dragged out as hell, but I can accept that because the series ended ages ago, therefore I can watch the show whenever I want, and don't have to wait a week between each episode of almost nothing happening. Besides, the action-sequences are still cool, despite the slow plot-development.
For Death Note, I think I'll say the anime. Once again, the voices, music and actual animation just makes it more exciting, though they do exaggerate things like hell in certain scenes. (I mean, who bleeds that much from stabbing themselves with a PEN? Or anything else for that matter?)

I like some of it, but I generally feel that the japanese music fits better. For example, nothing matches Gohan's Super Saiyan 2-transformation as well as "Unmei no Hi ~ Tamashii VS Tamashii" does. That scene wasn't nearly as good in the dub, when that song wasn't there.

90% of the time it's manga for me but there are some really cool animes out there that would never work as well on paper like Gurren Lagann.

I just hate how most of the time they change things in the story for no reason at all like Mikami who became a total freak in the Death Note anime.Yeah the guy had issues but i never saw him write in his Death Note with light effects out of a fighting game or him having orgasms when he killed.How about him stabbing himself with a pen and bleeding like a damn firehose?Ridiculous.

If they just stuck with the story and actually enhanced the manga experience i would like anime much more.

I prefer manga because it's less time consuming compared to watching anime. Yeah there is an appeal to seeing certain things animated…can't deny that, but there's also a lot more to mess up and more often than not it happens.

Anime has ALWAYS been better. Dragonball Z, YYH, Deathnote, Naruto, Bleach, ONE PIECE, Yugioh..Anime just makes the stories much better and more enjoyable.
Anime > manga always.

I can't stand FMA's manga, it was so boring and stupid. I liked the anime at first, but after reading complaints about the anime I watched it again and went uggghhhh. The only thing about FMA I treasure now is the nostalgia, and that OVA "FMA Kids". That was pretty sweet.

Ed's probably dead by now, though.

Yup. That came from a Fukumoto interview around 2002 near the start of Kaiji's third series. Fuku main puzzle is how to portray the death convincingly so you'll still be cheering on Akagi, but at the same time have some sympathy with Washizu.

I personally prefer OP's manga to its anime, the anime is horrible in comparison. Monster is less "omg brix" in manga form but it's better paced and a pretty good read overall, though I don't care for Urasawa's art style.

Usually what comes first is best, with a few notable exceptions.
Uruseiyatsura's anime, for example, totally PWNS just about everything in the manga.

Anime has fillers, half of the time it fucks up the art work making it look like every other damn anime series and not to mention 95% of the time series get cancelled or have abrupt endings that make no fucking sence at all. Examples are: Hellsing (original t.v series), Berserk, Full Metal Alchemist, Buso Renkin, Rave Master, Flame of Recca, Hoshin Engi, GANTZ, Shaman King, Rurouni Kenshin.

With manga you get differn't types of art work cause let's face it the best manga has it's own original art style. The story is not tampered with like in it's anime counterpart, why? because it's the authors story. I bet that you didn't know that the author writes and draws huh? amazing right?. Plus i've seen manga's that would be ANY anime to shame: Lone Wolf and Cub, Blade of the Immortal, Berserk, Claymore, Hellsing.

Because main focus of revenue on OP is not from the DVDs, it's a general audience and thus from TV ad revenue. Otaku buy DVDs, normal people watch it on TV. Since normal people don't care about artistic value that much, the DVDs are produced at low cost with no edits whatsoever; the hardcore otaku have no choice but to buy it even though it's such a cheap product.

It's not the same case in America. Most people are not watching it on TV, they're buying the DVDs. So Toei has to make edits to improve the quality and they obviously won't because they have no concept of American markets. Just like Bandai Visual.
