Christmas List ideas?

Help a poor girl with ideas to hopefully expand her meager video game collection in time for Christmas? These lists don't just write themselves you know.

Info: I have a PS2 and a Nintendo DS, and so far the only games I have for them are Final Fantasy XII, Okami, Final Fantasy III, and Pokemon Diamond. I'm thinking of asking for FFX, Disgaea (although that may be scarce), and Katamari. As you can tell, I love fantasy RPGs and any of their ilk. I DON'T like scary games or stupid, pointless zombie-killers. Or, to put it bluntly, I consider Grand Theft Auto to be the antithesis of everything I look for in a game.

If anybody can help me with ideas, I would be very grateful.

I see Katamari in the list of games you own, so I'm assuming that you enjoy the Weird factor to an extent. With that in mind, I suggest trying out ELITE BEAT AGENTS for the Nintendo DS. It's a rhythm beat game that you'd probably enjoy. Here's some footage:

And on the RPG side of things, you might want to try out MARIO & LUIGI: SUPERSTAR SAGA. It's for the Game Boy Advance, but it will play on the Nintendo DS. It's possibly the most fun you'll ever have in a RPG featuring a plumber.

If those don't cut it, I highly recommend Kingdom Hearts and Kingdom Hearts II for the PS2. They are the best of the best. No doubt about it. Hope I've been of some help!

For the DS, I find the two Castlevania titles amazing. They're not exactly the "stupid, pointless zombie-killers", although you do kill monsters.

For PS2 games, I find Dragon Quest VIII fits the fantasy RPG bill quite well.

Only other game I got is Sly Cooper which is packed away gathering dust.

Is Star Ocean really that good? And I'm personally still torn over whether to ask for Kingdom Hearts, as I've already seen my friend play through all of Kingdom Hearts 2.

And since our tastes are so similar, may I recommend to YOU the game Okami? It's AMAZING. The graphics are awesome (everything looks like Japanese wood-block print!), and the gameplay is unique. Fight with calligraphy! It's also chock-full of Japanese folklore references, if you did that sort of thing.

It's actually pretty boring and tedious. Couldn't play it for more than 10 minutes.

And no, Call of Duty IV isn't based on any actual wars, if memory serves. The past Call of Duty were based on WWII, but the new ones are about modern [fictional] combat.

Kingdom Hearts was a pretty good game, but I never bothered to play the second one so I can't say anything about 2.

And I'm probably going out on a limb here, but a DS game I'd have to recommend is Kirby Canvas Curse. That and Elite Beat Agents.

That, and you have to get over how fucking stupid Sora & Co. is.

Anyways Satsuki, I haven't played the game but I've heard and read some good things about Odin Sphere (PS2), that seems like something that would be up your alley.

And the Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney games for the DS are pretty cool to, 'specially if you like a good old fashioned text-based adventure.

I'm going to reccomend Sonic Rush, or Sonic Rush Adventure. Seriously, buy these games, if only for the fact that they are the only good Sonic games in recent years. Although, if side-scrollers aren't your thing, you may want to give it a miss.

I didn't suggest RE0, I just listed all the games I OWN. My recommendations were at the end.

Star Ocean 3 is great I think, I really recommend it. And totally KH if you haven't played.

I rented Okami and played some of it, it was quite fun but I found it a tad bit boring myself. But I probably didn't get to play enough of it, I rented it with a second game and I only got to play a few hours of it.

I never beat Okami because I can't draw the goddamn "ten" kanji (I refuse to beat it until I have every bead)

They're both fantastic games, although I personally like the music from the first game a bit better.

Of course you can always just ask for both, a new Katamari Damacy should be going for $19.99 and We Katamari is $29.99, so they are pretty cheap.

Yeah, Katamari Damacy's price has always been set in stone at $20, and We Katamari is $30. You'll never find it higher than that.

So, both of them together cost as much as a normal game would cost.

What amazed me about Odin Sphere is that only 6 people worked on that game (unless I was lied to X_x).

I had trouble deciding whether I should've bought Phoenix Wright or not last Summer, and so I went on a limb and got it anyways.
Boy, was I glad I did that. Now I'm playing the 2nd one, while the 3rd one is still in it's packaging (I won't play it until I beat #2). I can't wait to face Godot.

Oh, and Buuhan, the Spider Queen, while the first real boss, isn't that early. It takes a while in the game to actually get the first boss fight.

Basically, the key I found to practically every boss fight in Okami is, "Be methodical." Don't go crazy and berserker and you will definitely not lose.

And what is God Hand about?

Ten? You mean the kanji for "heaven"? I didn't find it that hard, but then again, I've taken calligraphy. Here's a tip: Draw the first two horizontal lines first, then draw the left-hand vertical line down from the top bar, then draw the right-hand vertical line down from the SECOND bar.

I too did not finish the game until I had every bead, but to me the hardest part of that quest was beating all the Demon Gate trials (THREE EVIL RAOS AND TWO NAGIS AT ONCE!!!!), and beating whats-her-face in the final race through the woods. (it's damn hard to win a race when you keep slipping on ice)

The characters alone are worth the purchase.

The fighting mechanics have a few twitchy aspects here and there, but nothing to deter from how great the game is.

Although y'know, when I first tried to beat Blockhead Grande, I failed miserably and was permanently intimidated by it, but when I actually went for it to get my bead (and gold dust) . . . . I GOT IT ON THE SECOND TRY. Like, woah, man. I think what I did was I split up the 8 dots into 4-dot parts, rather than try to memorize everything at once. I don't know how my brain managed it, but I did it. Or maybe I was just really lucky.
