I felt a little bad seeing the two chipmunk things

Hm. So this arc is getting really intense, huge, outstanding.
Chapeau Oda!

Chapter 481 "Shadow's Asgard" Discussion
Well, that pretty much confirms that オーズ is meant as "Odr"…
EDIT: And I see I'm not alone in this train of thought. Beat to the punch again…
-
moria looks much more like a taurus frog than a gekko. that's a bit sad.
-
I' ve got a weird feeling because luffy says that he will be a little reckless. Could it be he will try to combine gear 2 and gear 3 to finish "nightmare" Moria?
Could not wait for the next chapter…..
-
Oh my, Nightmare Moria looks friggin' amazing. He's really starting to look like a gecko now.
Once again I can't imagine how the crew will take him out, but luckily Oda probably is smarter than me.
-
Thanks, BF, and thanks again, kudou for the trans. So cool :o
-
He split the fucking ground with a punch.
Oh Oda how I love thee.
-

i like that theory. although, hes already in gear 2, and theres no way in hell he can beat moria with just that… even with gear 3 on top of 2 it doesnt seem like thatll be enough to topple moria. i think luffy will probly try it... but it wont be enough to beat him.
i cant even begin to guess how theyre going to beat moria now...
-
YEAHHHHH!!
This is awesome! And now I can stop hoping to see John and the Sharpshooter. =[ Because there is no doubt they lost their shadows! But this is awesome!
Also, this is the first time ever that the ENTIRE CREW is right in front of the main villain, without any other enemies to distract them. And they have no time, so I hope they will not let Luffy fight alone!
Not to mention that Sanji, Zoro and Luffy seemed exausted from battling Odz AND Franky is powerless (look at his hair in the end of last chapter and in this chapter!).
This is so awesome!
(Oh, and another thing… Moria lost in the New World. Can you imagine the level of this Kaidou guy?)
-
Thanks for the chapter. Here´s the spreads:
Pages 12-13:
Pages 18-19:
Sorry for the poor job. It´s the best I could do with these scans.
Anyways back to the chapter. Oda simply continues to impress. It´s so great that Moria also inserts all the shadows inside him because I always wondered why he wouldn´t use such a move on his own. And Moria´s speech about alive and undead crews is also great. Don´t know why but it just made him appear less lazy but more reserved in my eyes. Cool turn of events.
The only thing that really surprised me is that zombies like Cindry, Lola and Odz are gone without a farewell scene. Never would have expected that. Also up till the end I was hoping to see a little bit more of the gunslinger. That was also VERY surprising for me. But hey great chapter and great arc none the less.
-
This was pretty amazing. It looks like this will be one of the biggest, and probably shortest, major fights to date. It took a while, but Moria has now officially become my favorite villian.
Gotta love the title of this chapter, too.
-
NICE~~
Moria becoming gecko-like and monstrous, the crew standing up to him without flinching one bit (except Usopp, but he only said a few "hey"s and that's impressive considering how negative a person he is) and woots! Luffy going GEARS AGAIN!
Is This Finally the Debut of Gear FOURTH? Or just pure Gear Second pummelling-Moria-to-the-ground, which isn't too shabby either.
It's another excruciating one week of waiting!!
P.S. this chapter has one of the coolest titles to boot. I'm glad that Odz isn't the only character in this arc being referenced to Norse mythology.
-
"going reckless"
I wonder, does he mean he is going reckless on his health or ?
-
My my… those Shichibukai know how to live up to their name!
I wonder what Kuma is up to right now...
-
Moria is by far the best villian until now. I have no clue how the SH will handle this. Luffy doesn't stand a chance alone against such a NM.
1.he destroyed half of the ship with one punch.
2.he got zoros and sanjis shadows too and of all the generalsI'm curious how Oda will go on with the story, maybe this is the end of One Piece.
-
hmm looks like kaidou not only beat moria but also destroyed his pirate crew. looks like 2 of the shichibukai couldn't cut it in the pirate world so they became part of the world government. crocodile became a shichibukai because it was too hard to become pirate king and moria and his crew was wiped out and he joined the shichibukai probably so he could rebuild his pirate crew which just got taken out again by the strawhats. wonder if the other shichibukai are also failed pirates that couldn't cut it so they joined the world government.
-
So… did we see the gunslinger again this chapter or are we just assumeing that he got his shadow stolen along with everyone else?
-

Why wasn´t that clear to begin with? You don´t become a government dog if you´re that strong that nobody could harm you. I considered it obvious that in order to become Shichibukai you must have realized your limits at some point.
Kuma however COULD have become one because of a process of reformation. I mean if there´s a deeper meaning to his bible maybe he wants to atone for the sins he comitted as the "tyrant" and works therefore for the WG. Which could also explain why he´s the only one of the Shichibukai who actually listens to the WG.
The others however (even those we don´t know) seem to be plotting their own schemes. And that surely because the position of a Shichibukai grants them privileges which make them compensate for not being able to do it alone. At least I took it always like that. I mean just look at Whitebeard or Shanks. They don´t give a fuck about the WG or the Marine armadas just because they are far superior to them.

See? Nightmare Moria
EXACTLY. i thought i was the only one with such a thinking pattern of good.
also, i love that movie so much.
-
I can't believe Moria is still up! Here's thinking that Moria bloated with shadows is more of a threat than Odz was.
-
I love all the little touches in the chapter, like the zombies cheering and rejoicing when Moria got up, only to be sacrificed as mere tools for Moria's powerup moments later. And all this happening after Moria's speech about losing everything. It's quite pathetic really.
This is why Oda's such a great storyteller.
-
Come to think of it, anybody got an idea why out of a sudden there´s Moria´s symbol placed on his scar? It wasn´t there before the mutation.
-
It's a necklace he's usually wearing on his scarf thing (don't know the exact term), it's just that now that his neck is grotesquely inflated it changed position.
-
That was indeed a great chapter. Moria's speech about comrades and his ultimate transformation gave me chills. Another bit that I liked was Laura insisting to face Moria even despite that her body is going to be destroyed.
The only awkward part in my opinion was Cindry's return. Seemed pretty useless in the beginning, but it made sense when Moria gathered all the shadows to himself.
-
Wow… Moria is just...
Wow.Way to go Oda!
-
Nightmare Moria Wins at Manga.
Also I wish I knew what Hildon was saying… -
check Kudous translation hildond says something about inviting such outrageous guys, cant remember it
-
Moria split the f#cking island in half?! WIN.
Oh and at least we know where Moria gets the 1000 shadows from.
Luffy's 100 + Moria's zombie's 900.
-

It's called a cravat. Moria is wearing the most frilly, lavish kind. There are more basic ones that resemble modern ties.

You can even see one of the Zombies desperately trying to pull out the line connecting him to Moria, once they've realized what's going on. Undead or not, that's pretty saddening.
And the total chaos with the island splitting apart, people bursting into flame left and right, A gigantic rampaging monster facing the exhausted heroes…Oda simply is da Man.
Edit: Just noticed that Morias feet have long, black, claw like toenails. +1 design points

But, he can't stand for 10 minutes right?
The crew has to survive for 10 min -
But, he can't stand for 10 minutes right?
The crew has to survive for 10 minYeah, but in one minute the sun will burn 4 of them.
-
I just realized if he looses control of the shadows after 10 minutes and these are all the shadows of thriller bark wouldn't they return to their owners without Moria saying it?
And he definately fits the gecko theme now
-
Thanks to everyone who got the chapter this morning.
Wow…Moria is just sadistic. While Luffy's 100-shadow form was freaky enough, his "1000 Shadow Giant Lizard Form" (poor Cindry...sniff...) is just insane. At least now the SH have a final battle on their hands...and with the sun coming up, they have to stop him now!
-
The bottom of the last page says "Last Battle", and if Luffy isn't "planning to keep him company", then this shouldn't be very long.
The next chapter is going to be the meaning of epic, who'd want to miss it? I understand Lola completely.
-
But, he can't stand for 10 minutes right?
The crew has to survive for 10 minUgh, I wanna punch the next person who says this.
Moria owns the Kage Kage no Mi. Why does ANYONE think that he would be under the same constraints that Luffy was?
-
Wow… Good thing Absolom wasn't a zombie... (and this confirms it)
-
sadly, this raw is LQ and , at least FH, is waiting for another raw before they start scanning the chapter.
I'm at school so I can't view the raw. Sounds cool though.
-
@Lobster:
Wow… Good thing Absolom wasn't a zombie... (and this confirms it)
To bad he comfirmed it himself ages ago…you still thought he was?
-
i feel bad for laura and cindry.this is the final battle of thiller bark luffy, zoro, robin, sanji's shadows are in moria so they just have to destroy moria.
think they were the nightmare pirates.
-my theory for spoilers i thought i repost it.
gekko moria defeat theory
nightmare before chrismas is one of oda's favorite movies and homage throught out the arc. ougee bogie was defeated by being unraved and bugs(source of power) was freed.
i think morias stiches hold the large amont of shadows in and keeps him from going nucler and thus key to talking him down. -
To bad he comfirmed it himself ages ago…you still thought he was?
Nah… but better safe then sorry...
(what if Moria is a zombie?)
Of course that would make Brook's fruit look like garbage then.
-
482 is going to be so epic …
-
if moria was a zombie, assuming he was able to put a new shadow in him, which is it? maybe kaidou really killed them all, and now moria is just a collection of those crewmates he just talked about. that would be a nice twist.
-
Shit. This is with no doubts going to be the worst battle the Strawhats ever been in.
Moria got his own power+Luffys, Zoros, Sanjis, Robins and about 995 other both strong and weak wills inside him.
It's a perfect way to force the gang to become even stronger, by defeating their own strenght. :O
Oda is God, no doubt about it. -
How many of you have seen the One Piece theatrical movie, "Baron Omatsuri and the secret island"?
warning: spoiler for the movie ahead:
The main antagonist, Baron Omatsuri, was a kind and gentle spirited pirate captain who loved his crew.
But one stormy night, he lost his ship… and every single crewmate other than himself died. The depression drove him mad, and he started a sinister scheme to bring back his crewmates.
He used this carnivorous flower called Lily, that can eat human beings... and temporary give life to dead ones.
He trapped pirates coming to his island with festive "games", and fed them to the flower.
While the flower is well-fed, his old crew comes back to life as undead denizens of the island. So the island was actually filled with undead beings, and the Baron was the only living human being there.
His last battle with Luffy was creepiest and scariest horror-themed battle ever on One Piece. As you can see, there's some interesting similarities to the Baron and Moria.
The way Moria addresses his painful experience, he obviously cared a lot about his crew.
(some of these dialogs were unreadable on the spoiler cam pics)
Since the movie was anime original, and not written by Oda, I have the feeling Moria and Thriller Bark is Oda's version of the Baron Omatsuri and the secret island. -
D'oh… didn't notice the chap was up last night. Thanks BF et al & kudou
A couple of things:
-This fight will be short. The sun is already up and luffy, sanji, zoro and robin will be dead unless they finish this in 30 seconds to one minute. I suppose it's possible that Oda can stretch 30 seconds into two chapters, but most likely next chap will show Moria's down fall.-Moria has gone insane. When luffy had 100 shadows inside of him, he would have lost himself if he hadn't the tremendous sense of will that drives him to become the pirate king. Moria's abilities allowed him to take in the 1000 zombies without fainting, but he does not have the presence of mind to suppress the combative wills of all of those shadows. He's gone berserk, which actually rather fits the undead norse battle theme.
-Luffy has already gone gear 2. You can see in his final panel the mist that forms around him when he artificially ups his blood pressure. Whatever takes out Moria will be a gear two attack. My prediction is that he jumps down Moria's fat gullet and explodes it from the inside with a gear two storm. That'd be quick, painful, and of sufficient level of awesome to end the arc.
@Ivotas:Why wasn´t that clear to begin with? You don´t become a government dog if you´re that strong that nobody could harm you. I considered it obvious that in order to become Shichibukai you must have realized your limits at some point.
I don't think that's necessarily the case. The other reason to become shichibukai is if "going legit" fits your long term goals. For example, Donflamingo and Jimbei have both established kingdoms of their own. The only way to stop the WG from buster calling their new territories would be to become shichibukai and pledge allegiance. Neither of these two seem to desire the title of Pirate King, so they were never necessarily beat down before switching to the WG's side.
-
I really hope Luffy splits Thriller Bark in half with an Ono attack and just runs away and everyone watches as Moria slowly drowns. And now that all the shadows are in him, i suspect they'll leave when he's knocked out (he has to assert his will to keep them there).
Oh, and yeah, Moria shouldn't have the 10 min limit
-
…
What ever happened to Hogback? Surely he didn't DIE. This is ONE PIECE. And he wasn't a zombie. (Everyone kept saying he was a Vampire. Was that ever confirmed? o_0)
And what is Kuma doing? Sitting back relaxing?!

Since the movie was anime original, and not written by Oda, I have the feeling Moria and Thriller Bark is Oda's version of the Baron Omatsuri and the secret island.Yeah, when I read the translation about Moria losing all his shipmates and saying zombies are better as they never die and are easily replaceable I immediately thought about Omatsuri.
