It's Paulie not Pauly.

It's Paulie not Pauly.
How are you sure? Did Oda spell it somewhere?
-
i still cant find pics either way.

At this point, it could be "Paoli" for all we know.
Don't make assumptions based on nothing.
-
I did NOT make assumptions. I've only seen people spelling his name in that way, which is why i said that. <_<
-
People have been spelling it that way entirely based on assumptions, though. I've seen people spell it both ways equally.
Unless Oda had it spelled in roman letters recently and I didn't see it yet.

So desu ka?. I've only seen people spelling it the other way, and automatically assumed, that it was indeed, correct.
-
Hey, it could be correct, I just don't know. I usually spell it Pauly for no other reason other than my fingers seem to do it automatically.
-
How about Pauley? <_<

that's how i spell it.
and no we don't know how it's really written. it was the same with the galley-la company, a lot of writing were used here before oda actually wrote it in roman letters. so we'll have to wait.
-
You can't find pics? Are this ones good?:
But theese are manga and not anime…............ -
bottom left corner :X
I know you can't trust merchandises but it may be a chance -
"Iceberg"
Yeh, I wouldn't put too much faith in those cards. -_-
-
Damn, is that confusing. The anime should be right there.
But yeah, it doesn't matter. I swith the spelling from time to time myself, just 'cause I can.
BTW, I noticed that the colors in those pics are different from the anime. Is it possible that they recolored the anime because they didn't have a base at the time?
-
stephen's script has his named spelt "Pauly", and he's normally right on point.
Iceburg's name is "Iceburg", it's spelt that way in the manga.
-
Well I assume that it wouldn't really matter if there really is a correct spelling to his name in romanji (we'll be sure once we really see the name written by Oda). At least the name should be pronounced the same either way.
- This isn't very relevant but the card with Sanji and the cabages, well his undershirt is blue but in the manga it's orange. Just a little find…
-
Its not really an issue, unlike BB vs. Vivi.
-
Why is that an issue? I'm pretty sure it's Vivi.
-
Hmm, I don't remember the group that scanlated the Arabasta chapters before Null did, but they put "BB" instead of Vivi, which is a lot different. (Oh, they put Bebe before too).
Just wondering, is it Ener, Enel or Eneru? In GB3 his name is spelled "Enel" but in the anime everyone says either Ener or Eneru(but maybe that's because Enel is hard to pronounce).
-
It is Ener, completing the reference.
Because there is no distinction in r or l, the is no way to say just Ener or Enel. "Eneru" only came about because the language doesn't have a stand alone consonant sound, either.
Spelling is a nightmare. Do you go by what's spelled? It depends. As there is no difference, Oda can write 'l' and mean for there to be an 'r' in the English language. We know it's Ener simply because it's a reference to the German word ener.
-
Doesn't Enel/Ener/Eneru just have to do with the L/R translation rule?
EDIT:
Buc beat me to it XD. -

_That's a tricky one though, because the kana for her name is actually "Bibi" so it's an understandable mistake.

Which would mean what? Seriously I just had to check all my german/german dictionary´s here and there´s not such a word as ener. Must be another language you´re refering to.
-
Oops! I meant it's an abbreviation, of the German word "energie."
-
Hmm, I think I'm going to stick with Enel. It sounds more "Godly" to me.

Ah ok. I was really confused for a second here. Well we could then also say it´s an abbreviation of the english word "energy", now could we?;)
BTW, I stick with Enel. Since it was the first spelling of the name I heard it always stuck on me. Besides I think it was Gan Fort (among other´s) who spelled it Enel in the anime. It always stuck to me because he always pronounced it with some more strenght then the other´s. Hence I go with Enel.

I'm sure I remember this being confirmed in one the recent chapters, someone made a point of it in one of the discussion threads that it was Pauly. Might just be me thinking about stuff that never happened though.
-
It wasn't cnfirmed anywhere. But we do know for sure it's "Franky," since that's how it was spelled on the house and everywhere else.
-

The only names that have truly been confirmed are Iceburg (With a u), Cutty Flam, Tom, Franky, Galley-La, Blueno. Those names have bee spelled out in the manga.

It's said like "Bruno", judging by the spelling.
-
It's written Blueno on the front of his bar and since there was never any mention that it should be associated with an English 'R' we must accept it as Blueno. Whether Oda has his l's and r's screwed up is one thing, but it is his work and I'm not going to change the dogma of the story because I like how something looks or sounds in my native language.
-
In One Piece Grand Battle! Rush, it's spelled "Enel."
-
I found that there is a glassfactory named "Pauly" in Venice.
http://www.paulyglassfactory.com/Pages/english.htm
What do you think?
Maybe Oda-sensei visited Venice for research of W7, and caught a glimpse of this name…?
Just a thought. -
Maybe, but do they even let manga-ka out of their cages?

Paulie, on the other hand, is the name of one of the Italian mob thugs in The Sopranos.
This guy:
Paulie was also the name of a mob boss in "Good Fellas"
Paul "Paulie" Cicero.
Wonder if Oda's a fan of mafia…
-
It's not Paulie OR Pauly…it's "Polly"! Watch, he's gonna end up eating the Tori-Tori Fruit (Model: Parrot). He won't join the as the shipwright, he'll be the token bird on the captain's shoulder!
-
Uh… I think Paulie/y can swim...
-
He said he WILL eat the fruit, not he already did. But he was just joking, of course.

With having Iceburg whacked, names like Franky, Pauly, and Lucci, a business being passed down, etc. I think it's kinda safe to say yes.
