I heard this game was good, that's reason enough for me to get it.

Wait, they censored this game when it was localized?
Oh well. I just got it a few hours ago. I like how this is the love child of Dragon Quest and Pokemon. It's been a few minutes into the game, and I already have a full party.

Pretty sure he means the name censorship (as in the game doesn't let you name your monster certain things)
which is pretty ridiculous. I couldn't name my ghost "Spook."

From what I could gather, or at least what Cap'n Carter had mentioned at one point was that you couldn't give your monsters any offensive names. Not too too surprising, but this means you can't name any ghost monsters "Spook".

Damn, the name system sounds bothersome. That's the thing with those, even non-offensive words get censored cause they have parts that are or make up one. Like how is Spooky offensive? Were they afraid someone would pull a "fook"?
But yeah, the game looks good. It and the Phoenix Wright games will be what I get when I finally get a DS.

I've only played two "DQ Monster" games as a child in the past. Going to get probably within these next two weeks but before I do get it, a quick question, this game does have the monster breed feature like in previous games, right?

I saw some further clips of the game, pretty glad to know they're keeping the same style of battle music as they did in the first Dragon Quest Monster Game. Brings back memories from the old day I can say. Synthesize? Kind of similar to the alchemy pot concept in DQ VIII but as long as it's the same thing, don't really care what it's called.

I usually only rename a monster or something like that if there appearance just screams something to me. I tend to leave them as their default.

Ah, in these games I always end up naming mine with normal names like Fred or Steve anyway. But it seems kinda annoying for those who just want to have the monster caught.

I find myself giving them themes or the like. Naming them all after presidents or musicians or something.
Anyway, yeah, awesome game. I thought it was going to be terrible, but I'm pleasantly surprised.

Censorship aside, I just started the game 2 hours ago and I'm already hooked. The graphics are much better than I expected, and the gameplay is classic. Also, the monster synthesis sounds awesome. I can't wait to start making new monsters.

Especially when you're using most monsters to synthesize new monsters that also require names. I really stopped caring about naming them unless I plan on keeping them around for a little bit.

sorry to bumb, but what do synthesis combinations with four monsters mean?
Example:
===== Don mole =====
(Mime / Psycho)- (Mischievous mole & Mischievous mole) & (Night clubber & Night clubber) *

You have to do those 2 combinations first
and then combine the results

You know, I love Dragon Quest (esp. IV, V, and VIII) and I love Pokemon, but I'm only lukewarm on this game. My friend Neal was going to return his copy, but I convinced him to let me try it out first, in case I could buy it off of him instead.
But yeah, it didn't really click with me, and he's going to sell it back. Can't wait for DQ IV DS and DQ IX, though.
