I….just don't get it.

Okay, I'll explain his as well as I can. I am doing a project for school. I e-mailed my assignment to myself so I could get to it later. I tried to open it and it said that it could not scan the file for viruses because of an internal error, then it didn't do anything. No matter how many times I tried, it wouldn't open. I e-mailed the assignent to me several times and a couple others as tests. Nothing. Later, I tried e-mailing a file from my own computer, the same message. My brother performed a test and e-mailed a file from or computer to himself, it strangely did work on his e-mail address. So basically it seems that my e-mail address is broken when it comes to attachements:wassat:

I should note that they were all correct file types. Microsoft Word, Powerpoint, etc. I am a member of Windows Hotmail Live. So then, anyone have any ideas what this thing could be?

What email client are you using? Outlook? Outlook Express? Or the java-based web client?

I think it is Outlook Express.

Why dont you just get a yahoo account and send it through there? Or does it not work with ANY email?

I may try that next. I need an alternate e-mail account anyway. I would still like to know what the deal is with this one though.

Is there an option to turn off scanning? Or(knowing Windows) is it forced on you? As in you can't open it before it's scanned?

As retarded as it seems to me that you can't shut off the scan which appears to be causing the problem, it makes sense that MS would put in into Windows programs.

That could be the case. Is it possible for it to be sat to some account and not others? It seems to make this error with all files I open on my e-mail,a dn not on my brother's. When it comes to powerpoint's, it actually seems to try to open the file, but then it says "Input/output error" on screen.

Windows doesn't share files unless you place them somewhere Windows sets both accounts to access. So it's possible you screwed up yours and somebody else on the same computer, different profile, would have no issue.

I use Yahoo myself, so I'm used to having everything stored online. If possible, I'd try re-installing the program if you can find it stand-alone(you can always try torrents, I mean, you OWN a free copy that came with the OS, so I think if you get the same version it's completely legal) so long as it won't wipe all the emails you have.

I guess. I didn't really download it in the first place. I remember sorta having it. I can try to see if I can re-download the program though, if possible.

i don't know what's wrong, but I've just come to the conclusion that hotmail sucks when it comes to attachments. I use hotmail for signing up for stuff. (they always send you junk mail) for my mom, who can't seem to figure out how to update my new address, and for stuff like msn.

yahoo is great for attachments though.

I'm going to talk to a couple of computer experts and teachers in my school about it.

At least I have yahoo for attachements.

Sorry I wasn't around to answer this.

It's probably a setting you have in your anti-virus. Most anti-virus will screen any email that come through outlook or outlook-express.

You can also try setting up the remote ports.

For Outlook Express:

go to tools, accounts, click on your email account and click properties, click the advanced tab, then check the box under the Incoming Port Server that says "This server requires Secure connection" (SSL), same with outgoing. The incoming value should change automatically to 995, but the outgoing you'll need to change to 465. Then go to the servers tab and click on "This Server Requires Authentication", then click on settings. Click on "log on using" and put your full email and password in the boxes.

Then click okay, then okay again, then close.

That should fix it.

Do you mean the one that is always on the internet server? Cause when I click that, I can't see "accounts" anywhere.
