Fluently, I can speak and read Japanese and English (although both can be shaky at times... -_-) I guess I could get by in French too, but since I only know what I've learned in school, I don't consider myself fluent in it....actually I'm far from that lol

I can understand (listen) Mandarin and Taiwanese (I count them as different languages!) for daily conversation.
I can read Mandarin (Chinese char) and Taiwanese (roman char) to get rough meaning of what's going on on news papers / easier books.
I can speak/write Mandarin and Taiwanese a little if I try, but I get mix up the language. I used to be better, but since I don't use it daily any more, I forget >.>
I used to claim that I know some German (could chat on IRC for 5 minutes at least), but not any more. I don't use that any more .__.
I wanna go Taiwan for 1 year or so to improve my Mandarin/Taiwanese.

English, duh. I'm fluent-ish in Japanese - I can hold a conversation but I'm not exactly an expert - and I know a little French from my mother. Other than that, nothin'. :E
I'm only really fluent in English, but I did take four quarters of Japanese in college, which I wasn't too shabby at but it's been so long since I took it that I've lost a lot of my knowledge. I also took two years of German in high school but I can only say a few things anymore. Took a bit of Latin in 9th grade, which I liked, but my tutor left for a higher-paying job. <_<

Well I know I stink at it. I was in Germany for two days not long after I graduated, so the information should have been relatively fresh in my mind at the time and I could barely remember how to ask where the bathroom was. "That is not my luggage" was fresh as a daisy, though, and I never needed to use it. I was disappointed. Same with "You are a donut". :P

I can read Hangeul, French and some German. I read better than I speak those. But I am on a quest to get better. My Spanish and my Latin (yes, Latin, can you believe it?! I had 2 semesters of the thing!) are better spoken than written, though.
I'm fluent in English (Duh.) and I'm also fluent in my native tounge, Italian. I can also somewhat understand French, considering some words are exactly alike in Italian, but I HATE speaking french. I'm a native speaker of English, fluent to the point that I don't know what I'm talking about sometimes.
I've studied Spanish for nearly half my life, and I like to think I'm pretty good with it, at least in a casual use sense, though I still wouldn't consider myself fluent.
I have around two years formal study of Japanese, which means I speak…very little, but I probably wouldn't die immediately if I were stuck in Japan or something. I understand it better than I can use it, but even that's far short of being really useful for anything outside of reading manga raws, at this point.
I really want to learn more, too. I'm not sure what, though. Possibly Polish. Then maybe I'll go back and use my Spanish as a base to learn more romance languages. I'm a real language bug...I think things like this are fun. Creepy, huh?

as people reply, it'd be interesting to know where you're from if you don't already mention it. i think it's interesting to know where certain parts of the world are more fluent in more tongues. it is a shame here in america we like to believe everyone in the world speaks english, but obviously this thread easily proves learning multiple languages is not uncommon elsewhere.
anywaaaaaaaaaaay, i've studied spanish for 4 years in high school, but i probably could not speak much at all with a native speaker, though i guess my reading/writing is dcent. :( i also know basic french grammar and some fun idioms (ca va pas non!?) :lol:
so what's the best way to learn a language? it's a tough thing to do if you're not surrounded by it 'cuz you can't learn all the nuances etc. of real daily usage, which is hard to do with self-study. :unsure:

And as for me… I can speak a LITTLE French (Let's say that I'd not survive if left in Corsica), ALOT of Spanish (I could survive), and English is my primary.
