_> The Forbidden Kingdom is about a New York teenager who is obsessed with Hong Kong cinema and classic Kung Fu movies. Jason (Michael Angarano), is a boy who is always bullied at school. He is determined to learn kung fu to protect himself. One day in a Chinatown pawnshop, Jason makes an extraordinary discovery - a Chinese staff. It is the legendary Ru Yi Bang staff of the Chinese sage and warrior, Sun Wukong the Monkey King.
A mysterious power in the staff transports Jason back to ancient China.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHHA!
That and whenever Jackie Chan opens his mouth and anything other than Chinese pours out, it's just way too funny to even take anything he does seriously.
But don't take my word for it:
China's official Xinhua News Agency has quoted Chan's own criticism of the film: "The movie I just shot with Jet Li, The Forbidden Kingdom, actually isn't that great… The Forbidden Kingdom is a movie made for Americans… Chinese viewers may not like it. If I say it's a good movie now, then many people will be filled with overly high expectations and be disappointed when they see the movie."
And what genius do we have directing a martial arts epic?
Director Rob Minkoff (who previously helmed such films as The Lion King and the Stuart Little films) will be behind the camera
As I noted above, it looks like a foreigner sat down, watched House of Flying Daggers, Hero and Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon and basically said, "This is fantastic! We have to do the same thing….WITH AN AMERICAN ZING!" I'm just looking at the sets and pieces and thinking....wow....they look like places we've seen before....not any less better mind you....just...been there, done that, next please.
But yeah, other than that, it might be good._

BTW didn't Jackie also criticize about the Rush Hour movies in the same way?
I still don't get why Jackie does these movies when he doesn't like their orientation.
