I often thought of it the same way. After all the Toei animators see the product frame by frame and cell by cell so they should actually be aware of the most things they done.

I got this impression actually after the Kaku one that was somewhere early in this thread. I mean when you draw things then you are aware of what you do and things happen on purpose. And especially in that Kaku scene it was just to tough for me to swallow that the artist that drew him there wasn´t aware of what he did.
