Behold, the awesomeness that is the Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe.

I was a little apprehensive when I heard Disney was making all the Narnia books into movies, as it's a huge task and lately Disney movies suck. Then I heard they hired WETA Workshop and are filming it in New Zealand and I felt a little better. Then I saw this trailer.

I can sleep well knowing that at least the movie looks AWESOME. I can't say for sure how the script fared in terms of what was cut and what wasn't, but WETA has done a fantastic job making it look as Narnia should. That and they are (apparently) using all British actors, so yay.

So what's the verdict from you guys?

Holy crap, please tell me I'm not imagining this post in my mind. I had no idea they were making a Chronicles of Narnia movie... and more than one?! I was a huge fan of all the books when I was a kid and "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe" was one of my favourites of them. The trailer looks awesome, it does look like how I used to imagine it so hopefully it'll be well done… it sounds like it might be competing with Harry Potter (I think that movie is scheduled around the same time?) this winter so they must of put some work into it :lol:

Oh, and yayx2 for British actors.

Narnia seems to be the new movies replacing the Lord of the Rings. Something to look forward to again! Kind of fitting when you consider that Lewis and Tolken were friends.

Yep, yep, yep. I was overjoyed to see that this one looks like it has good people working on it. I'm excited. Not as excited for The Last Unicorn movie, but excited, nonetheless, since Lewis is just…well, wonderful and memorable...

Things are looking up for movie adaptations.

My jaw pretty much dropped when they went into the Narnia world… OH THE LAMP, THE LAMP. Seeing Aslan is like a dream though. All the creatures and effects kind of remind me of LotR now that you brought that up... wonder what the rating will be.

oh, yes, my darling! Peter S. Beagle's Last Unicorn will see light as a major motion picture, which according to sources, set in December 2006. I have been waiting for an entire lifetime for this to happen, and whereas I have always held fears nothing would ever do the book and the previously animated feature justice, a look into their production at their temporary website, The Last Unicorn, gives me much, much hope.

It's kinda timely, since his Two Hearts is finally up and about. Now to finally figure out what's to happen to Lear and, to my love and lady, Amalthea!

But!

Back on topic: the vision of :) Aslan, Aslan, Aslan…how our dreams slowly come to light...

Sweet!!! I always loved these books as a kid, so much that I went and read them all over again about a year ago. I remember the original Lion, Witch, and the Wardrobe movie and it was kind of cheesy. I think they may have made a few others into movies, but they were even worse. I would definatly like to see this series get a good modern cinema treatment as it could actually be kind of cool.

I will personally be looking foward to Voyage of the Dawn Treader (easily the coolest of all the books), The Horse and His Boy (Welcome to the heathen Islamic world just south of Narnia!), and of course The Magician's Nephew (Who doesn't love a good creation story, complete with a human's introduction of evil into an otherwise pure world).

Of course what I find to be the most interesting aspect of this series is how it so subtly induces children into Christianity. When you read these books being a little older, their Christian tilt is pretty obvious, but I definalty missed it when I read them back in elementary school. I mean, Aslan is killed on the stone table only to be resurected shortly after. Hell, in the last book he all but tells the children that he is Jesus.

Yeah, I'll probably go see this when it comes out.

Yes, she did a heartbreakingly beautiful job as the Unicorn/Lady Amalthea. But that was some years ago, darling, she was much younger then. Amalthea is supposed to be a young woman. Actually, I thought the animated Amalthea resembled Mia Farrow greatly, at least when she was younger.

The book is, in my very biased opinion, perfect. :lol: But I've yet to find out how the sequel, Two Hearts, does since I'm still waiting for the book to arrive by way my mail. Though I must say, I'm only too ready to love that, too.

Oh, Flight of Dragons! Ma~n….Talk about going back...

But back on topic! The Horse and His Boy and The Magician's Nephew are among my prized possessions. :lol: I can't wait to see what they do to pull that off...

Oh man, how I adored these books as a kid. Well, the first three. I have the last four, I never read them, because I was so attached to Peter, Edmund, Susan, and Lucy.

Did anyone here ever watch the Wonderworks miniseries of it? They were my favorite thing EVER when I was young, I used to always wait for them to come on TV around the holiday season. The music stuck with me as well. I think the weirdest thing about the movie will not be having that music…

But it does look like it's going to be gorgeously done. I'm thrilled. There are certain scenes in the book and in miniseries that always made my heart leap - particularly the scene when they recieve their weapons from Father Christmas (OMFG I want Santa to bring me a sword!) and when they are crowned. I hope those scenes are equally as riveting in the new movie.

Aw man, The Hobbit, The Last Unicorn, The Flight of Dragons, how nostalgic. Rankin/Bass animated stuff certainly does kick ass. I. Need. Soundtracks. Or mp3s.

Well, now that Narnia and Last Unicorn are being made into movies, let's see if they decide to do Flight of Dragons. It would be beautiful, if only to see Gorbash put to life.

Odd Fact: C.S. Lewis became a Christian and Aslan is his depiction of Jesus.

Lewis became a Christian: One evening in September, Lewis had a long talk on Christianity with J.R.R. Tolkien (a devout Roman Catholic) and Hugo Dyson. (The summary of that discussion is recounted for Arthur Greeves in They Stand Together.) That evening's discussion was important in bringing about the following day's event that Lewis recorded in Surprised by Joy: "When we [Warnie and Jack] set out [by motorcycle to the Whipsnade Zoo] I did not believe that Jesus Christ was the Son of God, and when we reached the zoo I did."

Funny how Tolken was the devout Catholic first yet Lewis's books are the christian allegories.

Me too. :) I keep looking for a mp3 of it or something. A couple of songs in that movie make me cringe, though. I just bought that on DVD a while back. Ah, the R/B nostalgia. I've still got old tapes of that, The Flight of Dragons, and The Hobbit.

Actually, Flight of Dragons was cobbled together out of the book Flight of Dragons and another book, The Dragon and The George by Gordon R. Dickson.

From what I understand, Flight of Dragons was a mock scientific study of dragons and most of the information about how they fly and their ability to breath fire comes from that. I've never read it.

Gorbash, Smrgol, the Ogre of Gormley Keep, Bryagh, S. Carolinus, Danielle, Giles, Aragh the wolf and Sir Brian Neville-Smythe (both of whom had their names changed, but were still basically the same characters) were from the Dragon and the George along with the notion of the main character (here renamed after the author of Flight of Dragons) being trapped in Gorbash's body. Some of the characters were almost entirely changed though; anybody who mocked the book's Carolinus for instance would have had a lot of time to reconsider their actions as a beetle.

_I've been letting my sister borrow my copies; right now, you can get a box set of all seven books fairly cheaply or even an omnibus edition of all seven for about twenty dollars.

As far as the books go, eh, it's kind of a tossup.

They're very well-written, but far, far too often the feeling I got is that Lewis realized that he had reached a certain length and decided to wrap things up as quickly as possible.

It's kind of a "Where the hell is the rest of the book?" situation. Was for me anyway._

Voyage of Dawn Treader had a great adventure feeling in it, with many interesting elements. So much like a medieval Oddysey.

Silver Chair was extremely great. The story had such great plot put into it. I remember the different routes they went through.

Last Battle was quite amazing. I hated that ape so much. Still the end was a total shocker.

Magician's Nephew while being first chronologically, was actually the sixth book I believe. I'm kind of hoping they release the movies in the way they were written, simply because Dawn Treader would be the third and not fifth movie, and that is the one I most look foward to.

TLU movie is old news for me; I researched it last year, I think. Heck, Mr.Beagle lives in Davis, which is the location of my school. O_o;

Also, virtually everyone from the old cast will be recast in their old roles; IMDB just has wrong information.

I read all the Narnia books several years back- i totally loved them.
Makes me wonder why the skipped the 1st Book [Magician's Nephew] as it showed how Narnia came into being. But i guess that would have been a waste or something.

Nevertheless, the reordering has angered many fans of the series, who appreciate the original order as it introduces important parts of the Narnia universe in the early part of the series and then provides explanation for them later in the prequels, in particular the creation story in The Magician's Nephew. Other arguments for the publication order include that Prince Caspian is subtitled "The Return to Narnia", and that the following fragments of text from The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe support it as being the first book in the series:
"None of the children knew who Aslan was, any more than you do."
"That is the very end of the adventure of the wardrobe. But if the Professor was right, it was only the beginning of the adventures of Narnia."

It was pretty much AWSOME.

Good Points:
The beginning, the end, the gryphons, the witch/the pevensies/Mr. Tumnus/ASLAN were all SPOT ON, the battle was cool, the talking animals were better than expected, some scenes were just as described in the book

Bad Points:
It felt a tad rushed, the wolves were meh, the made it far too obvious about the Professor knowing about Narnia, and some of the scenes were a tad cheesy, the magical feeling you get from the book was lukewarm

Overall: Pretty awsome~ It came out really well, and it was as best as could be expected of a live action Narnia movie. I just can't wait for the other books, seeing as this was probably one of my least favorite of them (I still love it though).

Aslan was so amazing though. Like, 10000x more than expected. ^^

I thought the movie was well done, but it definitely wasn't a huge masterpiece or anything. I think it did the best possible job it could to capture LWW in today's movies terms.

Oh and the reason for the quote, all my friends who saw the movie with me thought the same thing about liking the BBC versions a bit better, so maybe you're not quite as crazy =)

Haven't read the books, but enjoyed the movie. My only pet-peeve (not really one, just an observation) is that the wolf was the only character who sounded American in the slightest (and quite a bit like dub Smoker o.o). A friend of mine who has read the books and loved them noticed this also.
