From the people who brought you Psychonauts. Tim Schafer and Double Fine are at work on their newest game for the PS3 and 360 (personally hoping for an eventual PC release). A few months ago it was only rumor, but November's GameInformer confirms it.

Not sure when people will actually start getting the issue (or if they have already, seeing as mine are still getting sent to my old address), but scans have already begun springing up.

I'm sure there'll be people going "Jack Black isn't funny," but no matter what you think of Black, I've yet to play a game by Tim Schafer that I didn't like or didn't find funny.

Wow, I never played Psychonauts (though I really wanted to), but this looks pretty amazing

Same here, I never played it. This one, well, the concept sounds rocking. And Jack Black ain't that bad, in fact I have been lately listening Tenacious D quite a lot ("F**k her gently" is on my 360's playlist).

Now, am I the only who is totally hyped about the big print saying "Exclusive Mass Effect Review Inside"? The rumour goes it got 9.75…

Yeah! I've been waiting to hear something from Double Fine ever since they first announced a new title way back when. Being a total freak for Psychonauts (got the game the day it came out), I am looking forward to this one.

Wow, looks like the love child of Metalocalypse and a…well...game. Carter beat me to this, tho. Needless to say, this looks pretty awesome. If I'm able to run around and smash people and things to death with a guitar, I'm set.

Coool. I just finished Psychonauts. Thought it was pretty good. Can't wait for this (as I do hope there will be a PC release as well).

From what I can tell, Jack Black doesn't say anything in the trailer. It's just a monster talking, then music.

I find it funny that you can still see the Psychonauts style in the game, especially in the front shot of Eddie's face.

Has anyone else gotten the early demo? It's pretty awesome. It just takes you through to the first boss who you get to thrash [metal] before being returned to the title screen. The game is really well done from what I can see. Beautiful landscapes, golden comedy (I especially loved the language/gore prompts in the intro and Eddie reasoning with the druids), the action is fluid and the music is awesome (minus the band purposely portrayed as not awesome). The main complaint I have is with the driving, which feels a bit slippery. I'll get used to it in due time, though.

But blah. I have had the game pre-ordered since… dawn of mankind. But Play.com apparently isn't as awesome as Gamestop. At least when it comes to offering demos.

You've got 4 days before the demo's released for everyone else. Every time I play it, it just feels so epic. Especially when Ormagöden's rampaging. Speaking of which, I love Peter McConnell's work on the soundtrack so far. You can definitely feel his experience coming together. I can hear influence from his work on Grim Fandango and Psychonauts in there pretty clearly, mixed in with the new epic metallic sound that Brütal Legend was made to house. It distinguishes itself from the metal soundtrack, but it also fits in so perfectly.

Ha! I spotted a Finnish band in the soundtrack list. Kinda cool.

The demo's about 10-15 minutes at most, but its 10-15 minutes of heaven.

The soundtrack's awesome. Seeing Metal Church and Skeletonwitch on there is awesome by itself, and that's just the beginning of it.

That opening cinematic was very cool. I'm actually really interested in Eddie Riggs character. The whole "code of the roadie" dialogue was great!

I havent' been able to download the demo. I suppose it's not coming out here in Europe yet. Well, at least Forza 3 demo was neat. Although I'm probably skipping that game in favour of this and some others games.

I played the demo. Its everything i expected it to be. Huge fan of psychonauts. Not a huge fan of metal but im really digging this whole world he's created. Gonna pick this up asap when it comes out

got done with the demo as well. It was pretty good.

If there were any faults with what I played, it was definitely overshadowed by the very entertaining and likable characters (mainly Eddie).

Well it is easier to produce games for the Xbox than the PS3 and I think the early demo had some sound issues on the PS3 versions. I hope those are fixed for your official demo release.

I've already played through it a few times trying to discover as much as I can. Every time I play it, I just love it more. I do love the song choices for the opening bits of gameplay. It feels like you're just starting up an album and this is the imagery that goes along with it, just as it was meant to be.

Yeah, I liked it. Controls felt little slobby at first and I experienced couple annoying camera angles but otherwise it left a positive impression. Perhaps it didn't blow me away as Arkham Asylum demo did back when it came out but I think it was one of the better demos I have played this year. Rock 'n' roll.

I'm looking forward to it, personally. Not a huge heavy metal fan, but the demo was really fun to play, and it's by the people who made Psychonauts, one of my favourite games.

Well the PS3 demo did have sound problems before, on the early demo, though I'm not sure if any of those were fixed by their regular demo's release.

Tim Schafer does good cheesy dialogue, though, in my opinion. The lines in here are less cheesy than in Psychonauts but I find them just as funny.

I was never into metal, and while I love rock music I gotta admit I don't know shit about it. I'm sure I wont get a lot of references in this game (hell, besides Ozzy and Black I don't know who the hell the other characters are), but I doubt that will stop the game from being a good one. I intend to rent this before hand.

This game looks awesome but I'm gonna have to pass on it for now and get Borderlands instead. I'm just way more interested in that game than Brutal, even though Brutal looks amazing; the demo rocked.

I'll tell you again, on the Jack Black thing, that it surprised me. Outside of maybe one of his movies and a couple of his small roles, I do not find him amusing at all, but Tim Schafer manage to make him funny. Not only does his voice fit better than I thought it would, but there's actual humor. I don't know what percent Jack Black contributed to the lines (apparently he ad libbed some versions of the lines and some of those were used), but the humor definitely works awesomely.

I know, Tim Schafer is actually a pretty funny guy. I've seen him on some interviews, and aside from the humorous metal theme (which I love), Schafer's sense of humor is what makes me wanna have this game :happy:.

I've bought the game and am loving every minute of it. I think the Screaming Walls have been my favorite site to see so far and the character/world design is everything I imagined it to be and more. The soundtrack just fits so perfectly with everything. Hell, I didn't even mind the Dragonforce song in its context (and I am pretty opposed to everything they've written, especially that song).

I got the game today. For the turret side-missions, did anybody else notice that the Headbanger who runs it is a Psychonauts reference? (he's wearing Raz's goggles, and is voiced by Richard Horvitz) The game's really fun so far; I just gained control of the bouncers.

Gametrailers rated it highly but Giantbomb only dealt out a 3/5 stars (which is still above average). I suppose I'll pick it up considering Gamestop's running that trade 2 in get the game for $20 deal.

Beat this game recently, loved it. Great soundtrack, cool voice acting, fun story, just a great presentation overall.

Not that you can expect anything else from Tim Schafer!

I absolutely loved the game, though found it a tad short. I'm not one to support sequels, but I think Brütal Legend deserves some DLC missions at least to expand on the story. Otherwise, I loved every minute of it. The world is amazing and I can spend hours exploring it, the story and voice acting is brilliant, humorous and emotional like Tim Schafer always delivers and every little reference to metal and the culture that surrounds it makes me grin stupidly. I loved hearing the guys in the toilets at Bladehenge whistling "Breaking The Law", buying a weapon named after Bolt Thrower and tearing down the Drowning Doom's merch booths named after Candlemass's "Well Of Souls". It also introduced me to Brocas Helm and peaked my interest in Mirrorthrone.

Also, I've got the 6 Degrees of Schafer if anyone wants to kick my ass in multiplayer for it.

I don't know how this game ends but I would say there are pretty good chances this game will get a sequal.

Sometime ago Schafer himself said in an interview (by Joystiq?) that he would had liked to make sequals to games like Psychonauts but he never had an opportunity. Now here's a game, Brütal Legend, which is selling better than his previous games, was reviewed pretty well, has brand recognition, has demand for a sequal and has a game concept which seems to be pretty easy to expand on. So, yeah, I won't eat my hat if there will be a sequal.
