I am loving this arc right now.
Chapter 470 "Odz vs Strawhats" Discussion
-
-
Great.Thanks!!!!!
-
Sh*t! Oz is cleaning the house.
Also, Moria is going to pay a hell of a lot to fix thriller bark…
-
now's the perfect time for a genki dama! or quick, cut off his tail so he shrinks back down to normal size
o wait nvm! It's great seeing the SH crew get soloed by a big bad mofo and I would like to see them all regather to take Oz down collaboratively sans Luffy. 300 Million Belli Jackpot?
-
One of the things I really enjoy about One Piece is how much screen time the others get. I never denied that, as I mentioned in my previous post that they get their time to shine, just as others do in Bleach or Naruto, but it doesn't change the fact that eventually the "main boss" or some "mid-boss" comes along they encounter someone, they're usually hyped up by having them destroy a few people. Only for the main character to come in and save the day, usually after a long struggle. The usual excuse given for it is that "he's the captain so it's expected he'd do that" which is reasonable enough, it's just that my opinion on the matter is that I'd prefer to see something different.
Like i said in the previous post, it is very unlikely Moria is going to admit defeat if Oz is still under his control. For it to be an absolute defeat for him, Oz must be beaten and i really doubt even Luffy is capable of that.
Otoh, Oda could just be buying time for Nami to comeback and have all the strawhats beat Oz while Luffy beats Moria. Or even have Luffy comeback to join the others to show Moria that you cant always rely on others but working together with them helps most :\
-
I need a Moria fight fast!
Hell, is the only thing that's left
-
Something tells me that nami/brooke are going to play a vital role in defeating Odz..
But Nami is still in the hands of absalom, i wonder how that turns out.
Maybe some suprise entree the next chapter? Like Money D Dragon or something. Only to show of his power. Although i would rather see them kill Odz all by them selfes.
-
Good shit in this chapter. Usopp saved Sanji, Robin saves Zoro, Odz ruins the shit of everybody within his visual field, etc.
Brook isn't going to be playing a "vital role" in anything. He got his face stomped by Ryuma, and now he just got his face stomped by Odz. The guy is down.
-
Great chapter Thanks Battle Franky I cant wait to see a translation. Someone mentioned before a relation with The simbol of whitebeard and Oz and I also think that there exist somekind of link between both of them
-
This chapter is turning me into a flaming, drooling, Oz fanboy deluxe.
-
….I mean ow that looked pritty bad when Odz had Sanji in his fist...I hope he didn't like hurt his hands or anything..
-
Looks like the Odz are no longer in the Strawhat's favor.
-
Fecking AWESOME when he slams the mansion tower into Franky's ass! And poor Zoro getting ass-raped by a giant foot… awesome.
-
@raj:
Looks like the Odz are no longer in the Strawhat's favor.
Ha. Bet you've been eagerly waiting to say that ever since the big guy's name was introduced! :X
Is it just me or did Brook get a bigger panel in the temporary lineup of KO's? What is this? He's a minor character of no importance! Or…?
More importantly; I wonder how Moria runs that fast with those non-existant (sp?) legs of his...?
-
This chapter is amazing! It's great to see the Straw Hats unite in the fight against one menacing foe, even if they were ineffective… next chapter I hope they rally and show some amazing teamwork combo skills (you know how many possibilities there are!). This fight could be an excellent chance for the nakama to come even closer together. If Luffy ends up beating Moria and getting his shadow back before this Oz fight is over, it'd might as well be counted as a loss for the Straw Hats. It shouldn't be the captain's job to pull his crew's asses out of the fire, the crew should be capable on their own and provide support instead of burden. I don't think I'll be confident in the crew's future in the New World unless they can find a way to pull it together and subdue Oz, the Pirate King deserves the best and so the Mugiwaras must be the best-in-training.
-
That Kaido must be a fricking monster if moria needs OZ's strength to be able to beat him .
-
Finally an awesome Thriller Bark chapter.
-
is the cover story finally going somewhere? the people in the wall painting have wings… can the skypiean/jayan wing issue finally be resolved?
-
Nah, Enel will probably just lose his interest and smite the wall paintings in the next one. In a related note, Robin will die of sudden heart attack during the very same moment that happens.
-
NEXT INSTALMENT: "For now, attack the painting."
-
is the cover story finally going somewhere?
Maybe, just maybe!?
Though Enel will probably obliterate the wall next chapter, and then find something else and obliterate that too. Then he'll discover something else and obliterate whatever that is also. BUT! after that, he'll stumble upon something really exciting aaannnddd er, y'know obliterate the shit out of that too.
-
@IT'S:
NEXT INSTALMENT: "For now, attack the painting."
It's everyone for themself in the savage, merciless jungle of space.
I'm also glad the cover arc does seem to be leading up to something after starting out with such promise. (The question is: how the heck is this information going to be relayed down the blue seas seeing as the painting will probably get destroyed by him, next installment.)
This whole chapter is gold. I laughed pretty hard at Odz recognizing Sanji by his bounty poster. And major plus to Usopp and Robin having to step in with their individual rescues.
-
Wow i was reading this at school and listening to "Shuura" (Gintama's 5th ED by Does) and it totally fit the complete anihilation of the strawhats in this chapter. I'm looking forward to next week though….
-
Finally found the chapter (translated no less) and I would like to thank everyone involved for getting it.
All I have to say: Odz is a beast. It was great to see the SH fight against it but at least Oda showed how powerful he really is..and with Luffy's shadow no less! And another interesting concept: I think my idea about Odz not going down until Luffy defeats Moria's coming closer to true…
As for the cover arc: winged Aztecs on the moon creating Spaceys? Well its not like this arc can't get any weirder.
-
It would be cool to see monster point chopper beat odz but that would unlikely happen.
Since aokiji was so many chapters ago it feels so refreshing to see another ownage(especially sanji).
-
Yes, Odz is clearly awesome. Not only does he destroy everything will his immense strength, he knocks them into the building, throwing falling debris around, and flips in the air to dodge attacks and make his own. It's poetry in motion.
Still, I don't think the Shs are out yet, they got theit asses handed to thme but they'll stand up. I mean, Usopp is still conscious after all. And Chopper still hasn't eaten a rumble ball. Somethings going to happen, who knows what though. It's definitely not going to be Luffy saving the day, Goku style.
Also, anyone else care enough about Nami to be curious about her? I mean, none of the SHs are in any position to rescue her. Also, did that close-up of the unconscious Brooke seem weird to anyone else?
-
I'm still of the opinion, that Enel has passed out on the floor of Maxim the entire time, due to oxygen depletion at such high altitudes, and the whole moon-thing is some lucid dream he is having.
In the final volume(s), he'll awake to realize that it was nothing but a dream, and decides against going to the moon afterall, 'cause his dream was sort of boring & uneventful.
-fin-
-
Awesome chapter. I'm glad that Odz is an immense and genuine threat.
-
I mean, shit. The entire crew just got their asses kicked.
Laughed so hard at Oz's Gomu Gomu Bell in chapter 469, but his Gomu Gomu Sickle is just awesome. Plus Oz's face when he sees his head's on fire is just priceless. -
@Cap'n:
I'm glad that Odz is an immense and genuine threat.
Yeah, but by next week they'll probably be side tracking him with some simple Luffy-esque thing. That, or he'll fall asleep right at the moment he's about to lay waste to everyone.
-
…...
…...They aren´t. Zorro and Sanji look extremely pissed imo, their eyes far from blank, rather pronounced dark, both grinding their teeth… I hope this will be the fight of the arc (not like this sour dissapointment that Buster Call was). At least they have to try buying time for Luffy vs. Moria.
…...
Also, anyone else care enough about Nami to be curious about her? I mean, none of the SHs are in any position to rescue her.
....Beeing rescued twice in a row would be just to much for my stomach …. if Oda goes that low I´d feel that he ultimatly had lost the touch for Namis character - I´d rather see her get even with Abs in her own style and then there still ist this chamber somewhere ....
-
Omg, what a powerful chapter, they really got they asses beat!:blink:Thanks Battle Franky and Tennyfxdm!
-
Looks like it's down to Luffy and Nami, which goes with my theory all along of Nami using a tsunami to take down Thriller Bark… but in this case, Odr specifically.
-
is the cover story finally going somewhere? the people in the wall painting have wings… can the skypiean/jayan wing issue finally be resolved?
I hope so, but I think it won't.
As well the man on the left side of the painting has antennae as skypian and the man on the right side has a mask like the priest. Weird.SH can't defeat Ohz for sure. Maybe some damage, but after all he's a zombie, so really there is no way. I think Luffy will have to give up chasing Moria and start fighting Ohz. Hope we can see it in the next chapter.
-
And bout the coverstory: apparently we are seeing the link between the jayans on the right and the skypiean on the left. At one point they worked together as part of an advanced civilization. So, when luffy stopped the war he really was reuniting two lost factions of the same empire. Apparently, mecha island still holds some of the technology from that era as Dr. Moonwatcher has still kept the ancient art of Spacey construction alive. This means that mecha island may be important in unraveling the mystery of the civilization before the lost century, and makes it more likely that the strawhats will stop by there on their trip through the GL.
The mural brings up all sorts of interesting possibilities about lost-history activities and technology! But, how awkward that Enel found it before Robin did, especially if he destroys it.
Besides suggesting that Jaya and Skypiea's populations worked cooperatively back then, the mural also seems to suggest that these "primitive" people had superior technology to that which is available now. And from the "conveyor-belt" a group of them are standing on, it seems evident that these Little Spaceys (hey, that's a Cocteau Twins song!) were being cranked out by the dozens for war, not for fun. So maybe these guys were Jaya/Skypiea's last hope for defending themselves from whatever enemy they both shared.
But why the moon? That's what's throwing me: was there a knock-up stream strong enough to blast this workshop to the moon? Or did they have some sort of interplanetary technology back then as well as these little robots? Is Maxim a distant cousin of this technology? Does electricity have anything to do with it? Space aliens, anyone?
… Nah, Battle Franky's probably right -- it's probably all just a dream
and if Ener clicks his feet three times he'll find himself back in Kansas.Erm, I mean, the island he originally came from.
(thanks to those who brought us this weeks' chapter scans and trans -- we're unworthy! bows)
-
well…...... lil...... dunno how to define the chapter, but... dont know, doesnt rock as expected!
Mini Adventures getting slowly interesting! :D
Thanks anyway all the guys for the Job!
-
Looks like it's down to Luffy and Nami, which goes with my theory all along of Nami using a tsunami to take down Thriller Bark… but in this case, Odr specifically.
This may be right, everybody else showed off new powerful moves this arc, but Nami never got the chance, maybe now she could do something to change the way things are going when she wakes up, she may be the factor the Strawhats needs to win!
-
Very good chapter. The crew seems to be in quite a pinch. Even Zoro's attack had no effect on him. A few possible outcomes:
- Luffy abandons his pursuit of Moria to help his friends against Oz (not likely).
- While the crew is holding thier own against a seemingly invincible Oz, Luffy defeats Moria after a long battle, thus defeating Oz
- The Crew somehow manages to defeat Oz.
Another thing that has got me thinking; How does Moria, who has no legs, outrun Luffy?
This may be right, everybody else showed off new powerful moves this arc, but Nami never got the chance, maybe now she could do something to change the way things are going when she wakes up, she may be the factor the Strawhats needs to win!
Interesting point. Since there really is no one available to rescue her, she's going some focus later on dealing with Absolom
-
I liked the "Heiroglyphs" that Enel saw in the cover story. His is starting to get close to the Baroque Works one, and I thought that was Oda's best.
-
**I really don't see how Luffy would make a difference, especially when Oz has the exact same skills.
the only thing I can see happening is either Moria getting his ass beat and calling the shadows back or Oz stops listening to Moria.**
-
@Fire Fist:

That's a good point. One quick solution to all of this is to destroy the entire ship. With Hogback (assumably) out of commission, none of the bad guys could survive the ocean, because of zombieism or DFs. I like the idea of Nami trying desperately to create bad enough weather to wreck the ship while getting smashed by Ol' Dirty Z.
But I don't think that'll happen.
I was also surprised that the 'salt not working' problem didn't get more exclamation marks. Guess there was just too much action to waste space on every single character reacting to every event, like some unnamed manga involving dragons and balls.
Thanks BF and TennyFXDM for the unmarked raw! This arc has been really fun – I'm loving it.
-
Oh, and finally Robin acknowledged Oz! I was upset because, as a historian, she should know something about him. And she knows!
Maybe her knowledge may prove vital in defeating the beast?
-
Man, this has got to be my favorite cover story- you just know Enel's going to attack the wall, that's all this cover story is: Enel finds something facinating and mysterious… and he blows it up because he's bored. Perhaps I'm simple minded, but I find that absolutely hilarious.
Enel's got to be my favorite main villain by far, if only for this cover story. And then there's the Srawhats vs Oz... Wow. This chapter was utterly amazing- by far the best one in ages. This whole arc has been simply spectacular. I'm not usually one for making empty "wow this is awesome" posts, but, damn, this chapter is that awesome.
…
Though... it was kind of silly that the strawhats kept missing a target as huge as Oz… I mean, okay he's supposed to be fast, but still, he's like 10 stories tall and almost as wide... Oh well, it was awesome in the end, so I suppose it doesn't really matter.

Space aliens, anyone?
Nahh, Enel isn't going to destroy his newly discovered grand army of loyal spaceys. The bigger question is whether he will merely consolidate his power on the moon or use the spaceys to take over earth(or whatever one piece world is called.) If the space pirates were so desperate to find the ruins, then the spaceys should be useful for something nefarious.
As for why the moon, I don't think it's a really big deal. After all, they can reach the moon with helium balloons so it all they would need to get back and forth is a pressurized air plane. They would have had plenty of good reasons to colonize it as well. From that low orbit of a moon, they could drop spaceys by parachute anywhere along the equator that they desire. That kind of quick response would have extraordinary military potential. So, their enemies could have been earth based… or maybe we'll find out that the space pirates have played a bigger role in world history than we have imagined thus far.
Also, does anyone think this supports the theory that the world was changed so dramatically in the lost century that only isolated remnants of the past remain? If the high water level, the nature of the grandline, and the separation of the 4 seas were created during that time then it would be easy to understand how such advanced civilizations crumbled so thoroughly and how the skypieans and jayans were separated on different seas before the knockup stream reunited them.
-
I hope Nami will play an important factor in this whole Odz thing later on. Considering her role in this arc so far has mostly been passive and unconscious, I think it would be a nice development for her to be a crucial player in whatever's going to happen with Odz. Also, somehow, I just keep getting King Kong vibes from the image of Odz and Nami in that white dress together. :P
It's kind of funny how the Strawhats receive such a huge beat-down, one of their worst so far, and it came from this mini Thriller Bark arc. It reminds me of the whole Aokiji fight from the end of the filler-ish Davy Back arc, how they were all so easily defeated. That whole fight, and their defeat, was like an impetus for so much of what was to follow in W7. Should be interesting to see if there's any fallout from this fight as well.
-
Wow. The SH got beaten down flat in only ONE chapter. Oz is awesome!
-
Wow Odz took they out SO easily but, I guess that's to be expected. I wonder what he said at the end. Anyway I hope Luffy and Nami can find a way to stop him and Moria before things get a lot worse.
-
@Battle:
Yeah, but by next week they'll probably be side tracking him with some simple Luffy-esque thing. That, or he'll fall asleep right at the moment he's about to lay waste to everyone.
Yeah, his defeat would either be epic or absolutely lame. I seriously hope it doesn't disappoint.
-
Nahh, Enel isn't going to destroy his newly discovered grand army of loyal spaceys.
Oh, no, I only meant destroying the mural, not the Little Spaceys. Ener's no fool when it comes to potential minions. He's just a fool in most other ways. ;)
If the space pirates were so desperate to find the ruins, then the spaceys should be useful for something nefarious.
Well, the obvious use would be as an instant army. The newly-minted Little Spaceys don't seem to be very strong, but perhaps their ancestors are stronger.
After all, they can reach the moon with helium balloons so it all they would need to get back and forth is a pressurized air plane.
Well, we haven't seen planes yet, but if balloons (and slow, weighty ships like Maxim) can get there, then there's probably no need for planes. Did we ever find out how the Space Pirates got there? I can't remember. Guess I'll have to reread the chapter starters over the weekend.
or maybe we'll find out that the space pirates have played a bigger role in world history than we have imagined thus far.
I wouldn't be surprised. Hey, here's a wild theory: maybe messing with the moon is what caused the Acqua Laguna to be so much bigger than usual?
Since the moon influences the tides. -
THE ONLY POSSIBLE ENDINGS TO FILLER BARK 1. The Strawhats will defeat Oz by sinking Thriller Bark. And Oz will drown!!
2. Oz will become the next namaka!!!
