No, I think it's a joke on the English language. You'd assume Ace would have an 'S' in it, based on its pronunciation, and especially if you're not a native English speaker. But instead it has a 'C'. So it's like that guy have gave him the tattoo got it wrong, and fixed the mistake while writing it. And of course we know that the 'S' couldn't be erased…

I wonder how people can even argue over this thing. As it has been mentioned already by some members the S is just a joke intended as writing mistake (like we all make typo´s when we write our posts here).
As far as the technology discussion is concerned. Haven´t we already established that in the Grand Line there´s islands with different development level´s? I don´t know why we should ever take Water 7 for reference in technology standards. Who said that Ace ever was there? Besides isn´t the Grand Line the place where we have prehistoric islands too (Little Garden anyone?)?
When it get´s to discussions wether or not there might be technology to erase Ace´s "S" I have the feeling we are overanalyzing things. I could then also ask why there´s a pavement on Chopper´s antler. Couldn´t it have been fixed differently? Seriously folks, it´s just the way Oda designed it. Why don´t all just enjoy it?

Good point. But maybe it's a technicality. Amplifiers, microphones, and cameras were all invented around the time of the American Civil War. Even in the 1980s, if you wanted to get rid of a tattoo, you were most likely out of luck. And like Ivotas said, it varies. W7 has a sea train, but the crew has never even heard of such a thing.

Somebody explain to me why the hell it does matter whether there is technology or nit in OP? Oda made thsi world, Oda knows how the world works, Oda decides whatever the hell he wants to put in there, technological or not. Can't you just let the man do what the crao he wants? And as it has already been stated, Grand Line is a very confused place anyway. It isn't only differences of CULTURE, it's differences of clima and evolution. So there's not really crap to discuss.
Oh, and Ace COULD have it removed, even if there wasn't those lasers. Remember that Nami got her Arlong tatoo removed by the doctor? Even though it would leave a scar…
Anyway, the crossed out "S" is a joke, nothing more. Laugh at it and get over it.

I find it more interesting that its crossed out (i think its more amusing that ACE though I like the name). I'm guessing crossed out cause the tatoo guy made a tiny (?) mistake.
I think imbalanced electronics is good.
