Ugh, I'm really in a pickle on whether or not to cosplay at A-Kon.
My money situation is looking a bit iffy atm, and well, I'm not 100% sure if I'd be able to enjoy A-Kon weekend if a good portion of my spending money went to cosplay-related stuff, as I'd rather much save the cosplay itself altogether for Oni-Con or Ikkicon.
This sucks because I knew this might've happened. Damn work and its terrible timing on paychecks.

Yeah, I wanted to have that Luffy done by then, but the fur I always get for my shorts is pretty costly without a hookup from the wife of a good friend of mine who works at Hancock Fabrics (OP reference, much?). There's that, and the fact that I wanted to make quite a few alterations on my vest that it'd be too time consuming to make it look accurate.
I mean, I do have the Enies Lobby Luffy, but sweet Jesus, I've worn that version so many times I've lost count by now. But yeah, I think if I wait to debut it later on, it'll be well worth it.
@ CoralSnake: Yeah. I mean, theoretically speaking, I just want to hang out with everyone (i.e.: all of you guys, especially you. ;3), but I felt like I'd be letting you guys down if I didn't have my stuff down together in time.

ok, anybody feel like throwing out any pointers. I watched a few youtube videos for how to put on a wig. must be nice when you can manhandle a wig when you put it on, but mine is pre-styled and delicate.

Ok, so here we are at the very start of what will be a quick and easy costume. For now I'm startin' Impell down Buggy, but with intention to move on to the regular version sometime down the road near fall. Obviously, gotta style the wig and do up the make-up, but looks to be promising.

Lol, yeah, I haven't been on for like, over a month, only because I've been in a funk over going/not going to certain cons coughakoncough… but it is now certain that I AM going to A-kon. WOOOTT MEE!! XDDDD Unfortunately though since I had thought for certainty for almost a month that we would not be attending my Caimie and our Usopp are not complete T-T... sadness. Only because I have to get the stupid ink dye off the interwebs for my wig and since there's no possibility of it being here in 2 days.. yeah. Teh suck ><. But yay I'm still going!!! And I'm mostly just going to be Luffy all weekend anyways as well. AND since I can't be Caimie I was thinking of doing Impel Down Luffy instead (watch me make it in two days, lulz). Think I'll still bring Papagg though, he's just too cute.
We'll probably be down there either late Thursday evening or afternoon, and we heard there was going to be a Smoker that day so me and Pyro will be going as Alabasta Luffy and Ace on the way down. I am so incredibly happy to be going now, miss all the OP cosplay love.
Also (sorry last thing, I'm hyper right now), when would the Shabondy shoot be on Sat? I so want pics BAD. ^^ Misty that Law stuff looks KICKASS!

I had a roomate keep me up all night last week followed by a 12 hour shift, plus busy getting ready for anime north and akon. i needed a day to relax and catch up on sleep. I was there on sunday though with friends.where i live, it takes about 2 hours one way for me to get there. It kinda sucks. It was nice to go with friends for once, and have a ride. and they always use the Renaissance hotel. I think they have shuttle busses going between the 2 hotels? at least they did last year.

Here's some wig progress.

I spent my weekend working on hairlines for various wigs. Here's my progress so far for Impel Down Buggy. Man, up-do styles take a lot of time to look good.
The hairline is made out of skin top part, so it can be affixed to my head and allow a tight fit ponytail.
Also, kind of cosplay related, since I do it every year before cons (helps with wigs that are close fitted). I just chopped off all my long hair.

Use something fuzzy, and sew it on. Iroha has like 3 different versions of Luffy shorts: frayed/braided strands on jean shorts (I think this is her Movie 6 shorts), a very fuzzy blanket, and faux-fur. Faux-fur is the most commonly used material I've seen, and also it looks really good if done right. If you don't live near any type of fabric store that carries faux-fur, look around your local department store for something outside the box that would work: a fuzzy blanket, a really fuzzy towel, or a rug.

Like Ichnob said, faux-fur is usually the one that comes out looking really good in photos.
I used this (or something REALLY close to it) for three of my Luffy shorts (normal, Enies Lobby, and Thriller Bark).

Thanks MoonNeko! I'm pretty much just winging it on this wig, coming up with ideas on how to do it as I go. It's turning out to be really good practice for more complex stuff I still need to finish!

I'm pretty sure without a doubt I'm gonna try and get a wig for Doflamingo, cause.. as much as I wanna use my real hair..I'm thinking give it a month or two.. my hair grows at MONTEROUS pace that I won't have to buy a wig for Paulie, and that'll make me super happy. Plus no matter what I always get my hair butchered, so I'm letting is grow some before I destroy it again. Poor hair pats it We'll see if my Kidd wig looks okay or not x_x;; ahahaha sooo stressing about that XD

Luffy shorts: I haz too many. My recommendation is short fake fur, but wash it before you attach it - it'll get rid of loose hair from where you cut it, and it tends to make the fur more clumpy like the art and less like "I killed small animals and put them on my shorts."

-Unlimited Adventure shorts with giant long fur (unrealistic yes, but matches how the game renders looked)
-Movie 6/"natural" frayed shorts that I amazingly found in a thrift store. I don't know how to fray it this much while keeping the cloth mostly intact. But does that mean that the Gap actually sold shorts like this in the past??
-Thriller Bark shorts with the baby blanket stuff that's really soft and fuzzy. It looks MUCH better after washing, it sheds and looks kinda curly before washing.

Well.. I know Youshi did her Calgara wig combining 3 wigs, but.. I wouldn't suggest that unless you have a lot of money to blow on three wigs x_x; I got a Punky wig from Amphigory for Kidd.. actually..I've got it on RIGHT NOW and we're working on the goggles..OH MY GOD.. I'm soo excited.. this wig is soo damn neon..but..it's soo damn amazing.. xDDDD We had to cut soo much off it though =_=;; sadness. I'd look good with a mullet probably.. PFFT. No..no I wouldn't. Trust me XDDDD

Christ…Fanime just finished, and I need to get into full swing for AX already. Got the template down for the pirate rifles right now. Need to buy the last few costume pieces. Also, I'm almost finished prepping resin versions of Vash's Revolver and Wolfwood's pistol before I paint them. Hoping to get them signed at AX. Sanding resin gives me a headache though. Next time I work with these guns, I had better do it outside.
