An introduction shouldn't be needed. It's a Fallout, made by Bethesda Softworks and it looks awesome.

sweet! are they finally going to make the third one?
Yeah, it was announced some while ago. Together with a teaser video:
The main quest will take around 20 hours which is a huge relief. Naturally you can still play through it multiple times thanks to many paths you can take, and those 20 hours will be one heck of a rollercoaster ride, but the game won't drag out and it won't suck the life out of you. This was one of the reason why Oblivion didn't turn me on.
hope they got more stuff from Monty Python.
those random encounters with the bridge keeper and the one with king arthur from the search for the holy grail were awesome ^^
Fallout 3: one of the only games where it's legitimately "messed up" that you can no longer shoot children in the groin.
As "unfortunate" it is, I bet we probably won't end up seeing that in the game anymore. At least if Bethsoft doesn't want another case of Manhunt 2.
I'm skeptical about this. I don't like any of the B's titles and their way of thinking so i have absolutely no expectations for F3. If it's bad i can just forget it, if it's decent i may even remember i played it and if it's great … cool.
A year later, and the game is almost here. October is the release date.
I was just skimming through video game rated web sites (Fallout 3 has won bunch of meaningless Best of E3 Awards) and it struck me as funny and odd and sad how lots of people don't seem to know what Fallout is, even saying it's not a RPG. It's like there are these people with this huge gap in their video game education, or they are just young or they only play Japanese games for whatever reason. Uncivilized barbarians!
Either way, I bought a Fallout collection. It includes 1, 2 and Tactics. Tactics is something I had never tried before. And I have never actually had my own copies of these games anyway so it's cool. Once Diablo II rans out of nostalgia value, I will probably test if Fallout 1 still feels good or has it got old.
Edit: If any of you awesome mods reads this, moving this thread to the video game section would be a totally hip thing to do.
If you still like fallout 2 fallout 1 still feels good. I bought the same collection. (haven't gotten around to try out tactics yet though)
Uh so anybody besides me got the game?
My lunch box edition is somewhere between me and England. If I'm super lucky I will get it tomorrow. Otherwise I have to wait until next week . It will be a good laugh if mail delivers my hardcover guide book (it's 500 pages thick, Jesus) before it delivers the the game itself.
But I've already managed to read couple minor spoilers. Including…
! Harold!
It's been fun though shamefully I've been playing the game on easy might bump that up to normal if the Centaurs,Super Mutants,Mirelurks, & any other enemies don't me change my mind again.
Definitely getting this awesome game, but it's sad that it suffers from a lot of glitches, specially the PS3 version…poor PS3 owners.
I haven't made my mind yet, if should I go for normal edition or limited edition.
I keep hearing about this game. I keep hearing good things about this game. If I had not played the previous titles, would I be completely lost on this?
Probably not. I mean, okey yeah, like usually perhaps you will get more out of it if you have played previous games. So it might not hurth to know about Fallout lore (this is nothing Wikipedia can't fix ). But I'm pretty sure it was designed so that you don't have to know anything about Fallout and Fallout 2. As big classics they are, there has been a quite long time since those two games so it would be kinda unfair to require that anyway.
Well if you liked Oblivion you'll like this.

Don't believe the bull the review sites have been spewing. I've got the PS3 version and things are just fine for me. Yeah there are a couple glitches, but people have been blowing them out of proportion. WAAAY out of proportion! The only real glitch i've encountered, is the game freezing up (i've logged in about 12 hours and it's only happened like twice). The game saves at such a consistent rate (you can set the auto-save to go every time you enter a new area), that it doesn't really matter.
Make sure to turn off your notifications (which is something I should have done a long time ago anyway) cause the PS3 version will pause for about 3 seconds when you get a notify message. If you've got a lot of active gaming friends.. it will make the game unplayable (but like I said.. turn the notifications off.. problem solved).
I haven't seen the other versions, so I have no idea if I'm playing the graphically inferior version of the game as many sites are saying. I'm sure the PC edition is the bees-knees, but I have yet to see it on a 360. I could really care less… the game looks great. It's a nice juxtaposition against the polished detailed look of Far Cry 2, the gritty-ness of the wasteland looks perfect. But I guess people need something to argue about though.
Anyway, the game is excellent! I've been scavenging and killing like no tomorrow. Shit.. i haven't even gone to meet three-dog yet! I've just been doing side quests and upgrading myself.
One small insignificant gripe is that the area is smaller than oblivion (WTF bethesda?!)
Oh, anyone know if future downloadable content is still exclusive? Cause i'm really starting to love this game... and will be dissapointed if I'll have to wait for it or (god forbid) cannot even have it... whatever it is. (lets hope it's an entirely new part of the wasteland... a new city? or the level cap of 20 is raised to like 40? new perks? the list goes on...
come on Bethesda.. do it for the fans and don't pussy out to this "exclusive" bullshit that i'm sure microsoft is hoping dearly for.
Definitely getting this awesome game, but it's sad that it suffers from a lot of glitches, specially the PS3 version…poor PS3 owners.

It's not really as bad as you make it seem, aside from some occasional freezing and the dialogue/sound glitches which I came across this morning everything is good.
you found dogmeat yet sandai?
and if so… have you sent him foraging?
I'm afraid to.. I have no idea how that works. I don't want to just send him out and never see him again. I mean.. after a while, will he find you wherever you are? I'd hate to lose him.
I did tell him to walk all the way to vault 101 (which is an option), but he literally WALKS THERE!! I quick traveled to see if he would instantly be there.. nope, he walks slow as hell in real time! a few minutes and I saw him sulking down the road.

I found him but I left him in Megaton don't want anything bad to happen to him, even with me playing on very easy this game isn't exactly forgiving I went from having 40 stimpacks to around 7 or 12 fucking super mutants and the mercs, what level are you at now .
i'm at level 7. Playing on normal. Dogmeat is at megaton for me as well.
But i've been reading that the dog is a good tank. People were saying that he chews through fire ants and even killed two super mutants wielding sledgehammers.
people seem to agree that it's a baaaad idea to send him on his own to the vault, cause like I said… he WALKS there (a message will tell you when he dies).
As for foraging... i have no idea. who knows where he runs off to.
But as for me, he seems to just get in my line of fire during a fight. He's a good distraction for enemy groups when you're ganged up on and he takes damage pretty slowly. I just prefer to kill all the enemies myself... more XP that way. Dogmeat's kills don't give you any.
Well that's good to know.
Didn't get the game today. Blah.
I didn't kept Dogmeat alive in Fallout 1. The same fate waits for Dogmeat in this game too.
i'll tell yah it's really really good. but It feels very much like oblivion. The leveling system is a lot more user friendly, V.A.T.S really makes the game feel like more of an RPG than previous Bethesda games. And the game assists you more in the terms of direction and storytelling, IMO.
Well, it's not an Elder Scrolls game to begin with. Despite what some jaded Fallout fans might say . Fallout has rather different universe and rather different RPG elements. So I could see it appealing somebody who didn't dig Oblivion.
Ah fucked up a mission where I had to choose between helping a ghoul and his friends get into an exclusive building, or kill the ghoul and his friends, I meant to go the neutral route and convince the tenants to let the ghoul and his unferaled friends stay but I think I fucked up when I killed the guy who was in charge as part of another sidequest, oh well.
Dang it, this game made me feel sad. And now that means I love it.
! I kept giving water to the homeless dude outside the city, hoping that it'll eventually pay off with him actually joining the city as a main character. Maybe he was an ex mercenary who could kick all kinds of ass? Maybe the true King of Spain? I dunno.
! But… I came back after messing up a whole camp full of super mutants, and.... he was dead. Still lying in the same spot, just dead.
! This immediately launched me into scanning through my recent quick saves to get to him when he was still alive earlier. So that maybe I could quickly grab him another water. I went into total Groundhog Day mode, trying to keep this guy alive. But it always ended up with him shrivelled up on the side of the road.
! I didn't even consider looting his clothes like I normally would any fallen character I'd come across. Hey, it's survival.
! Now I miss hearing him beg me for water everytime I return to the city. I miss his genuine shock that I'm giving him water and asking for nothing in return, and his now apparently misleading comments that he's feeling better each time I gave him more.
! Too bad I couldn't move his body somewhere else, like a hole or something. It's just a sad reminder now.
! Giving them water does nothing but give you good karmal
Hehe, secret conversation. (Btw for anyone not trying to be spoiled, it's not a spoiler if you've gotten to the first city.)
! Yeah, I know that now. But he's still dead. WHYYYY!!
! The game wanted him dead?
I finally got it today. The Collector's Edition is pretty great. I love the bubblehead and the lunchbox is a beauty.
Anyway, what kind of characters you guys are using? My african-american "Jamppez", a male with a manly beard (now here's a game with a good selection of beards) who just reached Megaton has stats of…
ST: 3
PE: 8
EN: 4
CH: 7
IN: 8
AG: 6
LK: 4
And I tagged Small Guns, Speech and Lock-Picking. As of now I only got one Perk and that's Lady Killer.
cool idea for a character man. however, you might regret not having very much strength or endurance. simply cause you need to be able to carry a LOT in this game. It probably is one of the best ways to make money altogether.
Just make sure you take strong back when you get to that perk. I had a 5 in strength and I was still finding it tough to manage all the loot that I would find. It especially sucks when you are deep in a dungeon and just found an item that you really want. And you're just about over weighted.
The 8 in intelligence you will not regret however.
Better yet disarm the bomb in Megaton so you have a place to sleep and put away stuff you need a 25 in Explosives to do it though.
it just sucks making lots of trips back and forth.
! I just raided evergreen mills (a raider stronghold). and found this merchant who I did business with. after killing all his raider buddies (he stays friendly for you), I ransacked ALL their bodies and sold the stuff to him… (I made sure to buy everything I needed from him first, so he at least had a bunch of caps to pay me for the rest of the loot I found). then I ransacked just about anything and everything you could sell in the place. I took two trips to get all the stuff to him. after I was done.. I killed him (since he had the unique weapon "the terrible shotgun"). then... I was able to steal EVERYTHING i had just sold to him (and caps he had) back. I fast traveled to megaton and sold it all to moira. I was able to purchase a bunch of cool stuff for my house (infirmary, theme, nuka cola machine, etc..) and still made off with about 3000 caps in the end.
Even with a str score of 6 and strong back… I was only able to carry about 260 weight. This whole endeavor took me about an hour and a half to do.
Well
! I got to Paradise Falls the night before last and I'm doing some side mission where I have to capture people for slaves to gain further access into the settlement problem is there's one person who I don't think I can get to because of a glitch involving an area I can't enter into despite having a key for it:getlost: it could be the map fucking with me as it got the location of another potential slave wrong but I don't know
where is that. I might know why you cannot get in? who is the target?
Susan Lancaster at Tenpenny Tower.
whats the problem? you cannot get into the tower? or you can't find her? have you done any side quests there?
She does roam the place.
Well I did kinda fuck up a few of the guards after jacking one for Tenpenny's suite key and to my knowledge Susan's Room is on the same floor as Tenpenny's and the Chengs which is on the penthouse suite, problem is according to the map Susan apparently is located in Tenpenny's suite which can't be opened even with the keys I have, but like I said the map pulled something similar with Flak by telling me he was in the Muddy Rudder but in actuality he was in his room, if I can't get her I'll just have to move on it's not like it be the first time I cut corners in this game.

I have used a similar build in previous Fallout games. I like playing as a James Bond esque character . I'm just hoping Power Armor will still give strength boost. Carrying capacity hasn't yet been a problem tho.
@yoska- is your repair skill high? that really helps combine the armor you collect off of the people you kill. a good way to save space. Can't wait to make my sneaky bad guy.
@Sandai- that's odd. she is on that floor. but not in tenpenny's suite in my game. She is in one of the different rooms. just check every one. but yeah, it's not like you need to get her.
I kinda ignored the repair skill at first but I have been giving it more attention now.
At this rate this game is going to take me forever to finish tho . I have played like 16 hours and I still haven't practically done much besides Megaton quests. Jeez.

I think it's kind of stupid the the level cap is setup at 20 which I reached the day before yesterday, this really forces you to make some difficult decisions as to what skills to increase (which will determine what perks you unlock for use)
I like it that way. You can't make a character who is great at everything. A god character. Like you said, one has to actually make decisions. Having to make difficult decisions is good.
But it's nice you get to pick a new perk every level instead every third or forth level like it used to be even though it makes perks feel less special. After all perks has always been the fun part of leveling. That was a smart move by Bethesda.
If Bethesda ever makes a bigger DLC, an expansion big DLC, then they might lift the level cap. But, yeah, I prefer it the way it is.
i kinda like it and don't at the same time. can't really say why.
It's not too hard to think about what kind of character you want to be by level 20. (think of what tag skills you choose in the beginning) then, just focus immediately on your main form of combat and either a secondary combat style or skill. them for the third tag the most important skill to use. build from that.
but honestly, you theoretically can lift ALL your skills up to 100. It's a pain in the ass.. but you visit a lot of the places anyway. I'm talking about taking the comprehension perk, which gives you an extra skill point for every skill book you read, and then… go and find ALL the skill books in the wasteland! (lol). there are 25 skill books per skill. So with the perk that's 50 bonus points per skill. (not including the points you get for leveling and doing a few side quests. so you probably won't have to find ALL of them)
as for special stats.. raising them to level 10 is a different story. IMO it would be wasteful for all those perks you'd spend on intense training (and i think you can only take that one 10 times).
i said it before and i'll say it again. If DLC is released, bethesda better think long and hard about making it exclusive. jerks..
I can find all the bobbleheads but not books.
@Gekko:
i said it before and i'll say it again. If DLC is released, bethesda better think long and hard about making it exclusive. jerks..
Just while back didn't some Sony's big executive said something like "nothing is never exclusive"? The person might have overstated it a t-i-n-y bit, typical PR talk, but still there might be light at the end of the tunnel.
Edit: Does this game actually have any slavers? Sure some characters has mentioned slavers couple times but I haven't yet met a single slaver or even a slave. Unless raiders and slavers are the same thing in Fallout 3…
Go to paradise falls.
