Does anyone know where and when Oda said that Blackbeard will be the last opponent of Luffy ?
Questions That Don't Deserve Their Own Thread

@Barbe:
Does anyone know where and when Oda said that Blackbeard will be the last opponent of Luffy ?
He never did. It's just a general assumption (which I personally don't believe at all).
-

Me neither, they might face-off in the series, but as the final battle? Nah, too simple and straight-forward.
-
It'l either be the Black Beards or the government as a whole. But it is all just speculation.
-
actually the last battle in OP could be Strawhats vs Redhairs. THe series started with Luffy saying he will get a crew that would surpass Shanks' crew. So why not at the end Shanks decides to test Luffy and they fight then they party and thats the end.
Everythign right noe is speculation, but I like that idea
-
Nah Shanks is most likely gonna die.
and Blackbeard might not be the last battle.
Most likely the Government.
Since Becoming Pirate King you need to be recognized as the most powerful pirate/crew; and this can only happen to the one who finds Raftel.
Which is Luffy off course with his Vastness of Support from all over the world. This much power would only be used to fight against someone more powerful than a single pirate crew(Blackbeard) Which is the World Government. Also I have a Feeling that all the "D's" will die by the end of all One Piece. Luffy, Garp, Blackbeard, and Dragon. The "D's" so far shown die while being responsible for very Chaotic future events(Roger, Saul, Ace, Rouge). They basically die leaving something Behind which effects the entire world. The deaths of Luffy, Blackbeard, Dragon, Garp, will inspire the entire world in a positive way by the end of OP. Garp(Coby/Helmp) and Luffy(smoker/Tashigi/the world) easily Qualified for this already. Dragon and Blackbeard will mostly be shown to have a similar effect.
So I got a feeling that Blackbeard might die in some way of Redeeming himself; Off course this would be when his fighting against the World government.
I dont see the Strawhats fighting the Blackbeard Pirates when Luffy and co have already defeated the Admirals and the World Government.
I see the Admirals/Government being a much greater threat to Luffy and co than Blackbeard.
Or it could Just be a Royal Rumble…Free for all during this war. -
I don`t know, Luffy against the Government is a nice, dramatic story arc, but Luffy vs. Blackbeard, Pirate vs. Pirate in the ultimate fight for the One Piece…..seems like a better suiting end battle for the series.

Luffy v. Dragon will be the final fight of One Piece.
1. Luffy and crew will help Dragon and the Revolutionaries topple the WG.
2. Dragon will form a new WG, which, of course, will be far worst than the previous one (i.e. a fascist nation). (Dragon just wanted the power to control the One Piece world for himself). He will, of course, have control over the 3 superweapons.
3. Luffy and crew will confront Dragon and his forces, because they realize what "bad has happened". They will more than likely be helped by others, like the 11 Supernovas.
4. Luffy and Dragon will fight 1v1.
5. Luffy will win–though barely--he will yell about how his nakama helped him and that he "will never give up!" before he uses a hardcore finishing move on Dragon.
6. A bunch of flashes around the world after the defeat of Dragon's tyrannical regime showing people Luffy has encountered throughout the series off (most likely with "We Are!" in the background, starting song and all).
7. Instead of the common "To Be Continued!" the final screen will flash "End".
-
don't you guys remember what whitebeard said right before dying?
He said that when one piece is found, there'll be a grand battle, and by then, I think luffy would have taken care of blackbeard. it's gonna be like, luffy, his crew, and everyone he became friends with in his journey vs the world government
-
I still think Luffy will fight Blackbeard at Raftel and after the fight be captured by Marines/WG. Then a huge war will break out, similar to what saw on Marineford, but this time, the captured D won't die. The WG will fall and Luffy will sail away alone to new adventures when Coby takes over the marines under Dragons new World Gouverment.

I missed the part where this is a question.
And besides, this would contradict what Dragon said about freedom to Sabo. He had no reason to lie to Sabo, and nothing has pointed to him being a bad guy, but rather somebody who truly wants a free world.

Here's the thing, (or things really).
1. A good villain, in my opinion, is the least likely. Basically, a person or persons you don't think is evil and is fighting for good, but really isn't. (The the revelation hits and the truth comes).
2. Villains…lie. I could talk about bringing a "bright tomorrow for all!", when really, I plan to bring a brighter a bright tomorrow for some and slaughter the rest without mercy. Telling a person what they want to hear--in turn, getting them on your side--is a good way to achieve one's personal desires.
-
Nah, he and Ivankov seem like all around good guys to me.
-
Nah, he and Ivankov seem like all around good guys to me.
I'm not saying Ivankov is bad, just, possibly, deceived by promises of a brighter tomorrow. Heck…ALL the Revolutionaries could be being deceived by Dragon. (I'm not saying Dragon will be the final fight, just, when it comes to manga/anime, a person like Dragon being revealed to be a villain isn't unlikely whatsoever). He gets what he wants and cuts ties.
-
They've been together for nearly 2 decades now, maybe even more so. Judging by his reactions to Sabo he appears to genuinely want a better world for people to live in.
If he turned around at any moment in the story just to hold his title of unquestioned master and ruler of the world(or anything of the sort), I think that would be one of the worst things Oda could do to his story.
If Robin could stay with him for 2 years the way she did, I doubt they will be nothing but allies until the story ends. Doesn't mean they wont fight for what ever reason. But I've got to think Dragon and the revolutionaries as a whole are good.

Is Raftel "hidden"? I don't understand how people like Shanks, or any of the other Yonkou still haven't found it. Do they not have a good log pose or something, or is Raftel so deep into the New World that it's almost impossible to get to?
All I know is that there is some sort of method to get to Raftel since when WB was looking back at his conversation with Gold Roger, Roger is like, you want to know the secret to getting to Raftel.
So, in the end, the log pose WON'T point to raftel, and everyone will have to rely on Nami's navigation skills to get them there? which could be since Nami is supposed to have some epic navigation skills that no one else possesses, even in the crews of the Yonkou. Or is it more of a maze, where only one of the three log poses points toward raftel, and if you choose the wrong path, you'll have to turn around and go back? This is also likely since you could be extremely unlucky and keep going on a wrong path, turn around, go on another wrong path, turn around, finally get the first path right, but then get the second choice wrong, and etc etc. This would take a shitload of time( unless your extremely lucky) which could explain why no one has found Raftel yet. And we also know that Luffy is extremely lucky, or Nami can detect whether they're going on the right path?
And also, I think it was said that back when Roger sailed the Grand Line, it was uncharted territory right, or am I just mixing this up with another past? So, were there people living in the Grand Line at that point? And could it be assumed that Roger's journey was easier than Luffy's journey? I don't think Roger fought people like Enel, Crocodile, CP9, etc.

Yeah easier he only had to fight Garp , Senkogu , Shiki, WB pirates and many we don't know about ….seems legit...

I doubt it. It seems to me that she was looking for somebody already in the New World. She might have been talking about Blackbeard, and waiting for him there if you change the context a bit since that could depend on the translation.

I thought she wasn't talking about Law. I just wanted to check and make sure I wasn't jumping to conculsions. I didn't even think that it could be Blackbeard that she was talking about. It probably is him.

Ok now this may have been asked but its late and couldnt be bothered going through 20+ pages.
If Luffy now only makes parts of his body into gear 2 mode, does that mean he has now managed to use "Soru" even in his normal mode.
Cause I don't see how if he gear 2's his arm it enables him to use the technique which previously required his legs to be in gear 2nd as well unless he has advanced his efficiency at it.
-
!
Looks like one to me, but I've been wrong before. -
Luffy is most definetly in gear second during that kick to Hody. Notice the smoke pouring out of his body. But it is my opinion that even without gear second Luffy would still be able to pull a soru.

I have a question…... Is there a TRUE vice captain in the strawhats crew?
I don't think Oda really touched on the subject he may have hinted on who has the traits to be the second in command such as Zoro. He has shown a lot of traits on the matter. When Luffy was out of the question it seemed like he was the one trying to lead the the group in certain situtations, but the thing is in one of the conversations between Usopp and Luffy, Luffy had told Usopp that he would be taking the role as commanding officer if Luffy happen to be MIA. I would like to add that Usopp doesn't seem capable in such tasks because of the overly frantic and cowardly personality he puts off. With that said, who's the vice captain??

There's no official Vice-Captain.
Many people (including in-universe) consider Zoro to fill this role due to his status as strongest crewmember after Luffy, but nothing's really proven. Nami actually acts more like an actual Vice-Captain than anybody else, but she's officially just the Navigator. Usopp is just a running gag, but his original concept depicted him as the Vice-Captain.
And then you have Brook, who was a Vice-Captain himself in the past, but that doesn't mean much.

Funny How Every Time Shiliew's is the topic on this thread it always comes down to the First mate Discussion; Than it comes down to Zoro….

What is a first mate on a ship?Answer:
The first mate, also called the first officer, is second in command of the vessel
Source - http://wiki.answers.com
A First Mate (副船長 Fuku Senchō?, literally meaning "Vice Captain") is the top officer on board a ship after the captain.
Essentially, the first mate is the one officer the captain must put full trust in and pick carefully. They are the captain's right-hand man and if the captain is not at hand on the ship or is otherwise incapacitated, the first mate is the next in line to take over the captain's job.
Source - http://onepiece.wikia.com/wiki/First_MateFirst Mate
First Mate had rank just below the Captain. He would take control of the ship if the Captain could not perform his duties any longer. However, pirate ships usually did not have First Mates; Quartermasters performed their duties.
Quartermaster
After Captain, the most authority on a pirate ship had Quartermaster. As a Captain's right hand, he was in charge when Captain was not around. He had authority and he could punish men for not obeying commands.
Source -http://www.thewayofthepirates.com/pirate-life/who-is-who.php
Urouge: A second-in-command worth 120 million.
He doesn't look like the type to follow another man…
That tells you something about his captain...Now Alina I'm aware of your reply to my post.

!
Not The only time his taken charge when The captain is Incapacitated. It has been shown to us that Zoro has been the guy Who would watch over the crew and protect them
even if his life is lost. Even if he has to force his Crewmates to survive.(knocking out sanji at thriller bark.)2nd in command is not about giving orders. if that were the case than nami would be Captain.
Oda has been showing us that Luffy is the Captain who will protect his Crew at all cost, and the rest of the Strawhats will do the same for each other but We have been Shown By ODA that its zoro who steps up and protects them in luffys absence.
Now Seriously to end this silly Discussion answer me this one Question.
Why in the world would Oda have one of his characters say something like Zoro' is the Second in command when he isn't.
If you Agree that his Second in Command than Explain to me What First Mate Means to you.
Zoro will Fight Shillew Because his most likely the Second strongest in the crew and his a swordsman. Not because Shillew is a first mate, Which his not.
I got a Response from Jabra next page I'll post it here, I didn't reply back to it cause it pointless to argue this issue in my opinion…
@Jabra:Because Urouge knows nothing about the Straw Hats, his comments are based on assumptions (Zoro being a super nova with a bounty far higher than the others, for example). Of course he would conclude that Zoro is the second in command, while we all know that there is no real order within the crew. We frequently get to see the Straw hats from the pov of others, but merely to see how notorious they are (and of course for giggles, like Choppers or Sanji's wanted posters).
I'm not considering Zoro (or any other SH) the first mate unless it is stated from someone within the crew (you know, the ones who can really judge).
And the only incident giving any "hint" is this one:
!
Luffy agree's that if he ever chickens out, Usopp is the new captain.
Fits your description:
After Captain, the most authority on a pirate ship had Quartermaster. As a Captain's right hand, he was in charge when Captain was not around. He had authority and he could punish men for not obeying commands.
Now you can argue that this was comic relief (although I see no laughs, no face faults, whatever). You can also speculate that after Usopp left, the "deal" is void as well. But we don't know that, all assumptions.
But whatever, Oda will never break the unique relationship between the Straw Hats by introducing Whitebeard-like rankings.
Edit: Btw, It really feels like people need a compensation for Zoro having "no real job" on the ship. The SH's give a damn about that, why should we? Zoro is Zoro and his worth is unquestionable. And something on topic: I don't think Blackbeard has a first mate as well. Because frankly, out of all pirate crews, his seems to be the closest to the Straw Hats (captain cares for his members, no real order spottable etc)
Edit: if someone's got something new to add to this Unending discussion than please do, always good to read new/different opinions.
-
Edit: if someone's got something new to add to this Unending discussion than please do, always good to read new/different opinions.
First, the discussion should go to the Strawhats Crew Thread. Second, I really hope we don't continue this discussion at all and just accept that the spot of Vice-Captain is not officially taken until proven otherwise, because those discussions usually end as Zoro fanboy bait.
-
O Okay thx, I'm new to the forum and i'm glad you pointed the discussion has already been addressed, but yeah thx again.
Do you guys think there will ever come a time where Oda will point this out?

Not within the Strawhats he won't. He'll most likely give another Urouge type statement.
Maybe at the end of One piece; when luffy's dead, everyone in the world will Recognize him as such.
Only than, will it really really be official -

I think he will probably give plenty of hints, but won't state it officially.
-
Okay, cool, it's just been bugging me lately.. lol From the looks of it it does seem like the Strawhats won't follow such a hierarchy. It makes total sense.

I thought another feed for Usopp that back in East Blue (nearly 10 years ago) arc when he kept sayign 'let him be captain' Luffy would say no, but at one point Usopp then saif if Luffy couldn't do it Usopp would fill in, I reread manga nd did NOT find it. So don't know if it was a bad translation…or an early ememory of one the few episodes of the anime I watched. I do remember around that time some the first OP fansites listed Usopp as "replacement captian".
But as pointed out it was a joke.

Maybe if someone came out and asked him in a SBS …one of the ones that gets printed....(gotta have soooooo many come in, many are not answered) But he does answer some questions that gets asked a lot.

Yet, he would die and take away his own pride for him. Plus, Zoro's sense of direction and willingness to attack anything that gets on his way doesn't really help his case.

Here's a question: do you think it'd be interesting to know what it'd been like if it was Luffy that Blackbeard captured versus Ace then to basically see Impel Down and War of the Best with Ace attempting to rescue Luffy and instead of Whitebeard showing up it'd been Dragon? Kinda like an alternate timeline story, I guess.
-
Interesting thought. I honestly don't think Garp would've stood by so idly on this one being that Luffy is his actual blood relative and all.
-

It would be even more interesting what Dragon would have done. I doubt he would let his son die, given he has intel about his whereabouts/situation.
-
Would have been awesome too see what Garp+ Dragon did, idk if Ace would have done anything or not. He might have tried to convince WB but then again he wouldn't have been in contact with WB cause he was out in "Paradise" and WB was in The New World
