Nice! Thanks for that!

At the bottom left of Page 11 of Chapter 460 (where Zoro is fighting Hyouzou) , is Zoro's other eye (the one with the scar) open? It looks too bright to just be his eye closed under the bandanna.
-
I bet it is a mistake like Jozu's arm, Zoro's bounty wronf, Zoro's scar flipped in the color spread and many other mistakes which were corrected after it.
If the eye will ever open (which I doubt cuz it would make no sense to cover a NORMAL eye for the lulz) it will be shown in a more important manner.
-
^^Thats true…that`s not Naruto, guys.

@Don:
^^Thats true…that`s not Naruto, guys.
I know it's probably a mistake, but even the placement of the manga's frame is questionable. I mean, it's more of a hinting in the sense that it's only just showing a fraction of the eye. Which is not shadowed. Just seemed weird to me.
-
The thing about the eye is that if it ever becomes more important than just showing Zoro had fun times with Mihawk and is now a total badass, there will be a LOT of attention drawn to it. It won't be just an "Oh! his eye is open now! He must be yadda yadda…" kind of thing. We. Will. Know.

@Don:
Because he got his name from the WG and they see him as one of the greatest evils on the world.
So Rayleigh is forced to live his life in the shadows(in the darkness)even when he could be considered as one of the strongest persons in the world(just see his CoC).
He is such a famous person that everyone knows him and so they called him the "dark king", because of his strenght and because he roams in the underworld\darkness.I also think that because Gold Roger was called the "pirateking", they thought his second mate also needs such a title.
^^
Those are my assumptionsIt could very well be that Rayleigh the Dark King was so titled because as Roger's second mate, he would step up to lead the crew whenever Roger was away/indisposed. Rayleigh is the King hidden in darkness - the implicit King who steps into the fray only and whenever Roger the Pirate King - the Explicit King is indisposed.
Also in a way Rayleigh is pretty much Roger's shadow in terms of power, charisma and influence in the crew and perhaps in the story of the Gol D Roger crew = Pirate King , Dark King.
and yes, assumptions
-
Roger crew = Pirate King , Dark King, BB king
that'll be the next one !!!
-

OMG you're right !!!

I have to disagree here, because i think that Rayleigh was aware of the fact that only Roger was able to keep the crew together.
As soon as it was clear that he will split the crew(because of his illness) Rayleigh accepted the fact and didnt even bother to keep the crew together. It
s like Luffy would somehow die\wouldnt be able to lead the crew, i wouldn
t see a way Zoro would keep the crew together…its just Luffy(or Roger in the other case) who is important that the crew will be together....not without a reason they
re the captn`s, becasue noone else could fulfill that position and without them there is no way that the pirate crew would exist. -
BB King??????
I know its a joke but what?

My question(s) concerns Shanks, the Red Hair Pirates, and East Blue.
Why was Shanks, and the Red Hair Pirates in East Blue for at least a full year? Shanks was already very well known, seeing as how Whitebeard himself was surprised he came back missing an arm during their meeting. Clearly the Red Hair Pirates, and Shanks, were big names prior to exploring East Blue (which they seemed to do frequently once docked at Foosha Village). Could his scuffle with Blackbeard had been a result of whatever the reason was for going to East Blue since he received his scars already, too? Or maybe Blackbeard, not yet a member of Whitebeard's crew, was in East Blue at the same time searching for the same thing as Shanks?
My question has most likely been answered numerous times, but 400+ pages is a bit to skim through. :p
-
I wonder why Gold Roger Invited Buggy as a crewmate? he seems pretty evil to me, he did once tried to kill luffy right?
-

Buggy wasn't evil back then, just selfish. Eating the DF and witnessing Roger's death probably made him grow bitter during those twenty-and-something years.

Gold Roger wasn't the best of people, he did kill Squardo's whole crew and countless others.

No one knows for sure. At this point the best guess is that he and the tavern girl are lovers. Her name escapes me at the moment.

Makino, for future reference.
-
Thats right, I usually don't forget names either. I kept wanting to call her Nami's sister Nojiko.
-
Can't be. Makino just had a child….unless Shanks went back to East Blue and....:ninja:
-
Wasn't he establishing his crew at that point? Most pirate crews sail around East/West/North/South Blue at the beginning for a while before heading in to the Grand Line. Think of Roger.
-

And its been some time since Shanks and crew left (Luffy was what, 6? fer cryin' out loud). If he hasn't been back, you expecting a young healthy girl like Makino to just hang around waiting forever for a pirate to come back? She's not Brandy, lol
Who's Brandy? Funny you should ask…
(Makino supporters take note for next year's tourney, lol)
-
@Lazy:

Shanks was already a worldwide renowned pirate by the time he met Luffy (as mentioned here). He's not the kind of person that gets stationed in one place so it's not difficult to imagine him traveling through "weaker" seas for whatever reason.
-
Nobody asked ofr Brandy, BC.
ALso Makino could be just like Kaya..always having just one guy in her mind..even when that means waiting for years and years and years…well, screw that shit.

He was a famous pirate from Roger's ship, he wasn't necessarily a famous pirate captain yet.

So he took 12 years in the East Blue just to establish his crew?

He was already a big shot in the new world by that time. Also if you look very closely you can see all the main members of Shanks' crew in the first chapter. Except for Rockstar and that guy with a lion like head. I'm not just talking about Yassop, Lucky and Ben either, the guys who stood up in the war are all with Shanks in the first chapter. His crew was established.
-
So he took 12 years in the East Blue just to establish his crew?
Well we know two years after the execution he didn't have Yasopp in a crew [or a crew at all perhaps]. Yasopp left Usopp when he was young, let's presume 4-5. Shanks left when Luffy was 10 [and Usopp was 10 as well], and had stayed a year.
So that leaves 4-5 years in the normal seas, which is a reasonable amount of time. Shanks knew how tough the New World is, it makes sense he was travelling around East/West/North/South for crewmates and adventure. We've seen that Shanks is generally content with taking his time [a year at Foosha, camping on a random island for a while]
I think he stayed at Foosha village for Luffy tbh [and maybe Makino :)].
There's plenty to do outside the Grand Line.
-
indeed, bitchslapping weak-ass pirates must feel great (I mean that btw)

Theres something thats been bugging me for a while and I want to know if you guys think the same. Oda could have easily given luffy a better fruit than the Gomu Gomu one maybe even a logia one and would have still made the story interesting but he didn't. So why didn't he give him the fire fruit? Anyway my small stupid theory is that the decision for Luffy's DF ability was directly affected by Enel. Oda gave luffy the rubber fruit so that he could be able to beat a god convincingly without some stupid power up. What do you guys think?
-
I think Enel was given the Goro Goro no Mi because Luffy had Gomu Gomu no Mi.
-

Do you really think Oda designed Luffy's entire fighting style with the sole intention of beating Enel?
The Gomu Gomu was chosen because it fully allowed Oda to use all his creativity when thinking on moves for Luffy. Not to mention, it matches with Luffy's lanky physique.

In an interview Oda chose the Gum Gum fruit so his fighting style would appear somewhat comical, that way readers wouldn't get stressed out during the fights. His words not mine. And thank god, Luffy has an awesomely cool power without going the typical awesomely cool route like a logia ability. When I say "typical" I mean lame.

That's right. How many of us aren't already tired of seeing the protagonist with his incredible fire powers that complement his hot-blooded personality.
-
How can anyone think that Luffy needs a "better" fruit after he gained the positively insanely gigantic power-up from hell that is Gear Second? Let alone a hypothetical Gear stacking? Luffy's fruit is pretty much the most overpowered one there is for 1v1 combat purposes. It even got to the point pre TS where the SSJ-like power-up concept nearly killed off the "keep those sprinkles of lightheartedness even in the most deathly battles" idea that, as the person above me explains, indeed (AFAIK anyway) was the reason Oda gave Luffy that particular ability.

Any other author would have given us Ace as the main protagonist.
That is one of my main complaints with such series as like Fairy Tail. Talk about cliche giving the main character this super rare magic of being a FIRE dragon.

His fruit isn't overpowered. It's just that Luffy is one of the few DF users out there capable of tapping the maximum potential of his DF.
I still think WB, Kuma and Magellan have superior mastery, though.
-
Well, there's certainly not any other DF given ability that's as powerful as Gear Second (or as strong as it was pre TS anyway, it's possible that Oda has retconned it precisely for that reason) from the perspective of a well-rounded fighter. Even if it were to be because everyone else just makes worse use of their power, that doesn't really make a difference because the result is the same.
Oda is kind of falling into the "typical flashy superpower protagonist" trap with G2 is what I'm saying, I guess, despite seemingly having wanted to avoid it. And much like that person a few posts above me, I don't like it very much at all.

I would say Luffy's DF is one of the most versatile, but not overpowered. There's a difference. What's the point of making myself faster and stronger when I can simply one-hit KO my opponent with Hell's Judgement or Ursa Shock?
I assume we're not including Logia here.
-
If the opponent is too fast, what good is power? G2 was enough of a boost that someone who was a lot stronger and faster than Luffy without G2, could not even land a hit on him. In essence it made it so that the boost Luffy gained from his Devil Fruit was so large that he would steamroll his non-DF self with casual ease. And that is far too much, in my opinion.
I guess this is treading too far in the direction of power levels, though, so we'll just call it quits here.

No. Luffy was dragged to Dadan's place in the mountains when he was 7. (I was wrong when I jokingly said 6, but I looked it up this time) http://www.mangareader.net/103-50810-16/one-piece/chapter-582.html He was 17 at the time, the page says 10 years ago, voila, he was 7. I can sort of understand that you mistook "10 years ago" for "10 years old" but you stand corrected. That changes the entire timeline for how long he was gone–it was 10 years between the time we last saw him in Windmill Village and the time we see him at the war.
Furthermore, when Shanks visited WB to ask him to stop Ace, it was WB who expressed surprise that he had lost an arm (it was then that Shanks claimed he lost it "on a bet on the New Age" or something along those lines (I cannot find the scene to get a link, dammit), and we know that Mihawk refused to fight Shanks once he lost his arm (implying that he did fight him prior to that) (And again I cannot recall the chapter so I cannot find the link) both of which seem to indicate to me that Shanks was already famous by the time he as at Kokoyashi Village. So again, your timeline is totally off.
It is, however, an entirely plausible supposition that Shanks chose to stay in the Village for Luffy rather than Makino. Hard to say really. Hopefully someday we'll know who fathered her child. Enquiring minds want to know

I found the chapter with Whitebeard and Shanks:
http://read.mangashare.com/One-Piece/chapter-434/page009.html
http://read.mangashare.com/One-Piece/chapter-434/page010.htmlLucky Roux mentioned that it's been 10 years:

http://read.mangashare.com/One-Piece/chapter-580/page009.html
Well, I don't think he ever stated out right that he wouldn't fight Shanks because of his missing arm, but this implies that. It's confusing because some of these chapters were switched around between manga and anime.
Edit:

Was it ever stated in the Manga Koby's age?
-
I agree with the whole protagonist always having the fire power thing. It's so cliche. Being made of rubber is not a particularly 'cool' power, but I like the way Luffy uses it. He stretches to increase the power of his punches and kicks. He also has a wide variety of moves because of it. I don't think I've seen anyone else that can stretch fight like Luffy.
-
It's even better that Ace had the Mera-Mera no Mi. It was Oda using a trope against itself, that the main protagonist's seldom seen brother had the fire ability.
-
Slightly confused was Roger actually questionned about OP or did he start talking about it himself? I'm rereading Romance dawn for the X time and the panel dsn't show anything whereas in the anime he is answering that one guy in the crowd making it look like his speech( the start of the age of piracy) was unplanned. I better stick to canon and Silver's uncertainty about the whole thing.
-
Well in the manga it's implied that he answers a question :
"My treasures ?" or something like that.
-
Thank you for the reply you are right I checked stephen's trans, that would seem to suggest it was unplanned unless he gambled on someone asking him about his treasure on the platform, leaving the world being turned upside down to luck/fate would be like him =p
-
Do you guys think that if a Devil Fruit user, that had enough mastery of Color of Armaments could use it to cover their entire body and swim?
Well, this guy is a genius.
-

His punches should be a lot stronger if he didn't stretch because stretching actually reduces the power. Then again, it's a world where flintlocks take little time to reload, there are guys made of fire, ice, light, sand and lava and there's this guy that went to the moon on an ark with wood propellers.
