Umm… Overkill much?

Alright, I know that I may be very stupid now, but listen. At the final REAL fight of each saga in the anime, Toei must've blown the budget for THREE episodes just to animate Luffy's final move against his adversary. Here's the cases:

East Blue Saga: Luffy Axes Arlong down to the bottom of Arlong Park, sends the flag tumbling downwards and crumbling the entire building. The one with least anime overkill, yet it's still there.

Baroque Works Saga: Luffy Storms Crocodile through massive bedrock. Overkill at its finest.

Skypiea Saga: Luffy Golden Rifles Enel/r/ru straight across the Maxim and into the Shandian Bell. Another overkill.

CP9 Saga: Luffy Jet Gatlings Lucci through a brick wall. This brings overkills to a whole new level.

Now, I know that the final move signifies that everything bad in that saga has come to an end, but compared to the manga, it is just… Maybe too much? Discuss.

Nah, the anime had it right in all those cases. Oda handled their defeats the same way in the manga.

Wanna know why they do this? All the things you talk about end an arc. They make this extra extra animated because thats the way it should be. Then when theres isn't fighting the animation quality dips because really who cares? I'd rather have alot of extra animation for complicated things like fight scenes or other dynamic scenes.

Of course it is! Luffy should be like Goku and give them a chance even after what they done. Then they won't listen and attack him and Luffy will go "You fool!" and shoot him with a ki blast.

NO! No, no, no, no. The final blows being climatic is GOOD. It's just that they go on for about one-to-two minutes, that's twice to thrice as long as a normal finisher would take in the anime.

It reminds me of the evil king in Hellen of Troy. (the Spartan one?)

I think that, Hellen's sister ______, became the slave girl of the "Evil King Menengitus" or something after the war. But right when she becomes his servent she just randomly kills him. I think he's relaxing in a jacuzzi sipping wine, and she just walks up to him and slits his throat or something.

It's like… wow. What a non-heroic death.

Villians like Crocodile need to be defeated easily, when they least expect it. "Anti-climactic Bellamy style".

A coconut hitting Crocodile's head out of the blue would have been as climatic if Oda had put so much detail on the simplicity and randomness, representing the same thing of "how when we think everything is fine things turn out to be shit", wich could also be applied to Vivi's situation back in Arabasta with the whole BW Fiasco. :P

I think Jet Gattling might have been too long only because the wall held up for too long. I mean if Storm can go through bed rock, what in the heck was that wall made of to stand that many jet punches for so long?

Toei showed us the attack in slow motion. It actually occured in 0.0089 seconds. Actually, the entire Luffy vs. Lucci fight took only 3 seconds. They were moving at "speeds" not of this Earth; so Toei was forced to show us the entire fight in slow motion so that we could process it.

I'd have to agree with Lobster Pot on this one^^ I really do think that all those punches occurred within a time frame of less than a second. Don't forget, they were both moving at speed faster than the eye can see.

ahh well okay if that's the case.. I kinda felt that's how it was in the manga… but then when I saw the anime one... Lucci had time to say "Tekkai" (which takes about a second to say) and then just stood there like a moron, plus all the sound was not in slow motion.... but I guess that'd be pretty weird if it was. I didn't feel the anime really did the "slow motion" right

but maybe I'm just not seeing it right. All I know is it seemed like Lucci stood there for an awful long time before he got hit.

Well it happened in one of the movie spin offs. Not the Brad Pitt one. It was a different one that just aired on TV. (I never actually read all of Hellen of Troy in school. My teacher chose to have us read the Iliad and the Odyssey instead. So I'm just basing my knowlege of that off of the inaccurate Hollywood movies.)

Well, just to throw out a random theory here, perhaps Luffy actually just used the technique for a few seconds, and the manga/anime just showed it several times from different angles? That would make the scene make more sense, right?

Well,WE ALL dont want THAT to happen.DBZ is funny,but lacks on creativity at points,and the amount of direct fighting is sometimes inadequatr (not to mention their bizare time perspective,where 5 minutes takes,what 3 chapters or more?).The characters arent used as much as they should be and enemies are really all the same-they all just want to destroy and /or kill and those that dont are comic relief,busted in 3 seconds.Thats why I like Oda so much,even weak enemies (like Jerry) get a good design and a chance to show something of themselves.Also,the designs are a bit more original in OP.

Yeah, because people were completely serious when saying that the entire fight took three seconds. Nobody considered the fact that it was completely impossible. (< Sarcasm.)
The Jet Gatling scene was propably shown in slow motion, but the entire fight? Impossible.
